What kind of Mod/admin would you be?

First off, feel free to delete if not allowed.

So what kind of Mod or admin do you think you'd make? I used to think I'd be pretty fair. Let discussion flow, throw out some warnings or bans when needed but after spending waaaay to long on here over the last few weeks I think in reality I'd be a awful.

Another thread on something that's already being discussed - warning for laziness and inability to use the search

You post crazy outlandish stuff supporting conspiracy theories - ban for being a numpty

You've created another random thread (you know who you are!) - ban, just because

I actually think it would end terribly for all involved.

That last random thread is at 13 pages at the mo. I think there should be an "I'm pissed" forum for nonsense type pub chat.

    As a mod I'd be fairly laissez-faire.

I'd ban anyone espousing free-market ideas.

I'd take things back to the old days , beatings , house burnings , coke and hookers for my acolytes the usual stuff.
Other than that , I'd be fairly easy going.

I'd probably be way too lax. Yellow cards only when I hear gunshots.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    (here fishy-fishy)

Walter Mitty II was fond of self-indulgent ****, and utilised the hidden hand of the free market to rub one out.

I would censure those who favour trite expressions like "wind your neck in" and "I'm a boards legend". Other than stamping out more than a hundred accounts from the same IP, keep a loose rein on proceedings. No political correctness, and allow Travellers to be criticised like anyone else who breaks the law.

I’d get a few of the bores around here banned, give Mr Feiglin a commission for starting threads, and generally lower the tone of the place a few notches.

I'm far too lazy to be a mod. Also I'd hate to be tied to good behaviour like that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,263 ✭✭✭Rawr

I would rename everyone "Dave" and give them the ability to make the Smilies 20 times their current size.

...I'm sure that would work fine.....

    :D

Rereging in itself isnt really a problem. It's just more noticeable here compared to other websites, becuase commuinities have formed across boards.

I dont think it helps constantly sniping them, or people trying to make a point of identifying them. You're just giving them the 1 thing they want and that's your attention.

I'd say everyone would become that bit more of a dick when a mod. As everyone is biased. Dispute what people may say.

Give you an example: when the user whoopsydaisydoodles (think I have the correct spelling, as there is another user with a similar name) was a mod of after hours she'd be fairly biased when the topic of feminism came up I found. Often telling users "not to post in the thread again" if they offered a different view.

On the subject of being a mod why should you tho?
Hey I like looking at boards. We all do. But boards.ie makes money. It shows ads to users. Which that's what it's all about. Making money.
But you wouldn't work for some company for free would you? ;)

I would be a benevolent and fair ruler.

Actually no I'd be terrible. I'd be very light touch but if I was having a very bad day I'd take it out on the posters here. Also I am extremely nosey so I'd be snooping behind accounts to see who they are a re-reg of.

Something along the lines of Colonel Walter E. Kurtz in "Apocalypse Now". The beards.ie brass would have to send Boom_Bap up the river to take me down. The horror, the horror...

Habits, people come back in certain topics or forums. And the views they discuss. Tend to be markers. Along with their style of language.

I'd be very careful about which forum I was allowed to moderate. Some are full of genuine idiots and cretins while others are much more civilised, populated with people who are helpful thus requiring only a gentle nudge not multiple ban hammerings.

I would target all who have opposed me and then just for ****s and giggles any with two or more vowels in their user name. Make me mod and many people will cry some will die too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,457 ✭✭✭✭Kylta

I mayhem should be the word, I let them all at it. But I'd like a little di©khead logo, so I could put it on the poster who was taking things way to serious. And part of being Mod you should be able to post on what your Moderating on. Oh and I would never shift or remove a post before letting the posters know first.

I'd try to be rational and coherent, debating with posters as to the merits of them using bad language, resorting to lazy stereotypes and hurling abuse at fellow Boardsies.

Failing that I would engage my darker side, losing my faith in humanity and throwing my toys out of the proverbial pram, dismayed at the inability of the vast majority of people with an internet connection to engage in anything remotely resembling rational debate. *

*any similarity to any events that may have occurred on this website are purely coincidental.

Would you be a mod on the soccer forum. Say just after Liverpool lost 3-0 to RM in a champions league final?
It would be hard for any mod to restrain themselves :)
    I wonder did he re-reg ?

    No warnings,no PMs
Just go back and delete posts

The best forums by far are pretty much unmodreated. They basically self moderate with minimal intervention from actual mods.

As a matter if interest, how does someone even become a Mod on boards?

You are not allowed ask or express any interest whatsoever. Even if forums are having difficulty in finding a mod that doesn't matter. It's best to maintain an air of nonchalance while posting in a consistently inoffensive manner.
