    That's hardly self-isolation.

Schools will close before Easter no doubt. Uk is in the delay phase now and it’s inevitable that the nhs will be hit hard.

Mother-in-laws flight still going ahead tomorrow.

Is there any chance that she might be terrified of staying where she is, and she's hoping to come over to be in a potentially safer place?

Another couple of weeks paid leave for the teachers - they'll be delighted no doubt.

I lived in Italy for a decade and still have relatives there.

Bear in mind, Italy has a world class Health Service especially so in the North, multi-agency law enforcement structure (Polizia, Carabinieri, Municipale, Penitenziaria, GdF, etc), (semi) professional "Civil Defence" organisations, Red Cross, Green Cross, White Cross, well-trained specialist military & navy (e.g. Alpine troops, etc) and decades of experience with major earthquakes, volcanoes, terrorism, organised crime, people trafficking and disaster management.

If they are struggling, we should be very worried and treat this with the utmost seriousness.

Agree 100%, North italy is high-end European standard in terms of Health Care, Public Services, Police, living condtions, hygiene and so on
We are not even close here

Italian doctor speaks about the 'relentless war' to save patients in Italy and pleads with public to stop comparing it to a 'bad flu '. Plenty of folk on this thread seem to know better than him though

I think its partially yes, but also her apartment rental is up tomorrow also, and landlord isnt playing nice to extend. And of course to visit her daughter/grandaughter.

I'm really surprised at Strazdas. He/she is a poster I've admired for years for being calm, sensible.

However he/she doesn't seem to be grasping the incubation phase and time lag with this virus at all.

Also the stance that parades should go ahead. Bringing large congregations into a small area outdoors who will then cram into pubs, restaurants, chippers etc after could only increase the chances of spreading infection.

Ha they'd be loving it :pac:
But to be fair, of all reasons to give them more leave this one is absolutely acceptable.

There's about to be an announcement that all schools nationally will close for 4 weeks from next Wednesday.

2 of them would overlap with Easter anyway

Use the empty schools to quarantine the 1.9 million, problem solved.

Ive a question... at what point does one go to get tested for coronavirus? Ive had a cough since before the outbreak, but for all i know i could be killing the nation here, ive no other symptoms.. do you get checked? do you wait for it to get worse?? do you need more than one symptom???

Theres a big hype about it but not much on what to do if you suspect you have it.

Do you have this weeks' lottery numbers by any chance Nostradamus?

Will the numbers be the same as last weeks draw? If so yes, yes I do.

I am sure they would be, can't be many worse places to work, hospitals aside, and be at more risk than being a teacher,

Sadly this will be a thread to remind people about how much false information and false knowledge gets thrown out on here. Same thing happened with the Japanese earthquakes in 2011. Of course, the subject matter is different but when I was reading that I was shocked at the amount of nuclear scientists boards had :pac:

Ah what can you do :p

Remarkable stats from Italy there. Median age of those infected is 65. Only 4 deaths under 59 years of age. Fatalities at 4.3% and average age of fatalities over 80!

Really graphically shows how much a threat this disease is to the mainly elderly. People with elderly relatives really need to have a plan in place as regards food, care etc.

They'll be able to go on another foreign holiday. Italy is lovely in Spring . They will be able to double up on their private grinds at least.

So we should ban travel to the UK now? Close the border with Northern Ireland?

No. Stop putting words in my mouth. Government and the Horse Racing board here could easily put pressure for its cancellation and call for people to not travel. While that's the approach for other large gatherings like parades, no one will dare mention the sacred cow Cheltenham. The festival is half made up of Irish.

Working in the health service must be hard at the best of times, but can only imagine the pressure of it now. The absolutely need to be on your game and perform. They really aren’t paid enough. The stories from Italy, thinking of ICU workers here if things escalate, they should all be given some sort of reward by the state when it’s all said and done

    Fair play to them.

The potential financial issues, as a self-employed person, has me more panicked than the health issues!
