Is it that simple though? Granted I live in Limerick and a lot of the older AGS would have known McCabe.

The father of a local guard was almost killed by the IRA in Foynes during a robbery back in the 80s.

Hard to bring people like that around to the new reality.

During the Bertie era, FG went down to 31 seats. Michael Noonan was the leader.

Meant actually getting his own vote, not the party as a whole

Michael 'ILoveMilfs.com' McGrath elected in Cark

O Cuiv saying party executive will decide, MM will be told to be a good wee boy and shut the fxxk up

If they where just going to do this then why make such a big deal about never ever going into collation with them. If they want to shift their position so much in their own opinion they should go back to the people

Shush. Dont be bringing democracy into it. The pro FFG fanboys on here want another lisbon / nice.

Go back again there lads and vote the right way this time.

The same posters would be kicking the brits over brexit amd saying they should vote again.

    How do you know?

Patricia Ryan in my own area topped the poll. She done zero canvassing, in fact she was on holiday and failed to attend numerous debates around Kildare in recent weeks. There's wanting change and there's blind stupidity.

Fine Gael really made a massive error in opting for a Saturday voting day, the hard done bys were all home from their massively subsidised colleges.
One point - the turnout is down on 2016.
    Explain that.

So as the Uk embraces the free market economics ireland has swung full on left. This will not end well for ireland. Facts remain that leftists are idiots and always get manshamed by the right.

When have Northern Ireland paramilitaries cared about a democratic vote. Maybe a vote for an United Ireland will pass at some stage but will places like East Belfast happily respect that? Doubt it to be fair.

FF FG would be the much more obvious coalition.
No doubt these results will have an impact on them, and maybe this time they will actually get something done. Also they will no longer be able to blame each other (they'll find a way) when things go belly up. When building expenses triple and wages double, they can no longer point at each other and say that they wouldn't have made that mistake.

All in all, todays results are pretty good. A change is coming, and it started now.

Why won't SF go into government? MM stated today that he would not rule it out. Maybe they will get something done and not blame someone else if things go belly up. When building expenses triple and wages double, they can no longer point at someone else and say they wouldn't have made the mistake. SF have been on about change, now they have a chance to do it

Look, all people seem to want is change, SF were voted in huge numbers for this. Let them do it if they can find a partner who will coalesce with them.

The worst of all worlds is SF sitting on the opposition benches again cribbing and moaning as they have done forever. But that is all they are used to.

Time to play senior hurling now. But who will coalesce with them? And if no one does we are back to square one But maybe the Army Council will decide. I reckon it will all boil down to who gets the Justice Portfolio. That is what they want, the rest is blx.

It wasn't smart to outright dismiss talking with anyone pre-election therefore making SF the brand, full focus for the last two weeks of the campaign (obv. hoping it would be bad for SF) and even more stupid post-election.

That's the proof FF and FG are full of sh*t.
FF had us practically eating out of bins, but seemingly, for the good of the nation and stability they joined up.
Yet won't deal with SF even though the public obviously want them involved.
    Chancers.

I thin k it's fairly obvious now though it was then.
Another monumentally stupid campaign move initially by MM then LV followed it up.
this is how out of touch they both are.

Always. Was kind of the whole point.
Dissidents are a worry. No Senate seats for them with FG gone.

No. Just calling it as it is. Do you think the gardai and defence forces decide themselves who they will work for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,380 ✭✭✭STB.

I dont get this. Council elections and General elections are totally different. I wouldnt be drawing to much from it tbh. People are pissed off. Not about pot holes but about real life impacting issues. That seems to be lost on some.

SF are a viable alternative to FFG.

They ran 9 candidates who lost the local elections last year. All voted in today. Read into that.

So you consider SF's economic plans moderate left? Because even their followers would say they are fairly radical

SF are centrist, they won't be nationalizing building sites or takeaways,it'll be business as usual with possibly the exception of the Irish Independant merging with the National Enquirer
