Thanks for the practical info. Can you clarify please what is meant by a 'real camera which used a coaxial cable'?

I take your points about the practical difficulties. My current helmet camera produces Low Resolution Files (LRFs) at the same time as the high resolution MP4s, so it's not a case of having to convert or compress files.

My concern isn't so much about the principle of making the dashcam available as a drive over wifi. It's the more about the user interface for this facility. It seems to have been very much an after thought with a fairly clunky interface, rather than a core part of the system, providing an easy way for owners to access their files.

Here's what Hyundai are offering, fitted by the dealer, so no warranty issues arise - Nextbase unit with 'wifi access'.

Apologies for the typo, it should be "rear camera". What I mean is the below connector, it really is tiny, and you would have to disconnect it if you were to bring the camera inside the house.

Don't get me wrong, you can pull a file off the camera in a minute or two, extremely easily with the phone app when you're sitting in the car. The UI is decent here, and never an issue to actually do it, it's just gets slow if an incident spans two videos, and you want both front and rear. There are just fundamental issues with transferring larges files compared to USB, or a in-home device that quickly become apparent.

All in, the Nextbase system seems OK value as it includes fitting - and addresses my main issue with them which is the mount.
