The most sickening thing for me is we would've been finished tomorrow if the Law Society had just gotten their act together in the first place...

Also what about pen and paper surely we will be allowed to do some rough work, we have all being prepared for a written exam! Also the point about not being allowed to leave is ludicrous, of course people are going to need to use the rest room!

Surely they have to let us have a pen and paper to do rough work, I always scribble down an answer plan at the start!

Just over 2 and half weeks out from the exams to be told that our written Fe-1 exams are now to be typed!!!!

How is this fair? this is discriminative surely in some way how are they allowed to change the format so drastically.

There is no in there to voice our opinions it all falls on deaf ears

I nearly consider not doing them cuz I’m very slow typer have never sat online exams nor ever want to but the next sitting will probably typed as well.

And that we can print out the exam. I like a hard copy in front of me so I underline the main points/topics.

Me too, this is going to be such a disaster.

Yes. I’d like to be able to print out the questions and definitely be able to write points down before starting to type!

I'm actually extra anxious now that I know they'll be typed like I remember things better when I write things down so that's what I've been doing when I'm studying. It also help that I can highlight words/phrases on the paper so I better try to adapt
I also didn't get an email with the instructions which is worrying like how else would I have known about all those instructions if I didn't have boards? Stress.

Have the events of the past few months left anyone else really disillusioned with the idea of a career as a solicitor in Ireland? Like I’m honestly not bothered anymore, no job surely should be worth putting yourself through this amount of stress this early on with sooo little support / communication from the governing body. This was due to be my first sitting and strongly considering a different path in the legal industry / trying to qualify elsewhere.

I honestly don't know what I'll do but I'm pretty exhausted at this point with all the stress and anxiety from these exams

    Good luck to us!

Yeah, but I've had that feeling ever since I got my law degree and realised that it got me absolutely nowhere after spending thousands I didn't have and 4 years working my ass off. I'm kind of numb to it

I'm interning at the moment and I absolutely love my job, I cannot wait to become qualified, this whole situation is ****ty but, as I always like to say, thats life and it doesn't always work out the way you want it to, but that doesn't mean it didn't work out great

There are other avenues for sure but uve signed up now and paid, it would be more aggro to get ur money back at this point, just put the head down and get through the next 3 weeks.

Agh this is a bit of a disaster! my typing speeds are average at most and I always make spelling errors when I type! also the fact we have no physical exam paper to highlight and underline the important parts of the question will really throw me off as I know i will forget to mention a point if I cant highlight the question!

Also I never even got the email from the LS!!! thank god for boards??

That sums it up perfectly! I'm exhausted. If I hadn't paid the €420 I don't think I would be sitting them.

Has anyone not received any email at all from the law society in relation to the online sitting?

I am a first time applicant and am very worried that the lack of communication from the LS could mean that I’m not on the list of candidates sitting the online exams in 2 weeks! It’s making it so hard to keep the up the motivation to study!

Yeah they took it without any delay!! And they sent me an email (on two separate occasions because I added two exams when the October sitting was cancelled) but haven’t heard from them since.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that we have to rely on a discussion forum to find out about exams that are happening in just over two weeks!! How hard is it to create a mailing list and hit send to all?

I didn't get it and this is my 3rd sitting, wouldn't worry too much their IT system sucks, probably can't handle sending 2000 emails at once. If I don't have it by like 10 tomorrow I'm gonna shoot them an email saying so

Does anyone else think that it is entirely unacceptable to change the entire format of the exams two weeks out? I study by writing out answers again and again and then it comes to me in the exams..I actually cannot even begin to imagine how i'll type these exams..I also cannot understand why we wouldn't be allowed have paper and pens to write notes? this is an actual disgrace.. I know it's been discussed before but if there was ever a time to go to the media about the unjust treatment by the law society it would be now.

Completely agree, very disheartened by all this. No encouragement from the LS to continue with this career path nor even the respect to give us adequate notice.

FE-1 exams can’t and shouldn’t be typed! The length of the written exam alone is gruelling not to mention when you have back to back exams.

It’s actually in humane to have a typed FE-1 exam

But who do we turn to complain about the unjust treatment they don’t listen and they reads these boards. I feel utterly helpless

Law online exams in college have been written and scanned Since the pandemic began. why aren't we allowed the same fair opportunity that every other 3rd level student and many other professional exams have been given???? We are so voiceless

From reading this thread it seems like we're pretty much all on the same page regarding the typed exam. That shows just how unfair it is, the exams are only 2.5 weeks away and no one has been preparing for a typed exam.

Do people think there's any chance that we'll manage to get them to change this?
I didn't get the email but from what was posted above they said "If any of the above requirements prove problematic, we will try and address your concerns by providing adapted arrangements. "
It seems we're all concerned about this, and it is hugely problematic, so maybe there is a chance they will take that into consideration.
