True. My ears ache when I hear about 'Northbind' and 'Southbind' traffic.

Plus there's a lady on the Traffic news who pronounces Castlemartyr in E Cork as if it was

    'Castlemurder'.

There's a split in the camp over the "Trip to Belfast".

But there is still near certainty that there was marchers from Coolock in Belfast, despite BOC comments.

If you weren't from Coolock, why would you make a banner saying you were from there? Doesn't make sense.

But sure try to dispute the facts Brendan.

I don’t think that’s what he’s trying to do here. Much more likely he’s more concerned with getting sued by nutters, again.

    Once bitten, and all that.

There’s a dangerous word…”sound” conjures up several phrases like “lovable rogue” ….”chancer “ “ bit of a grifter” and stuff like that .

I wouldn’t use that word myself due to the connotations it can stir up….” Coddin’ the people and getting away with it” springs to mind .

mmmmm……nah……I’d steer clear of that one, me.

The auld ‘ produce evidence’ defense when the blatantly obvious is apparent.

“How did you know it was raining at that time?”

“I looked out the foocking window and called in the cat and she was soaking”

Is Ballsy still at that crud?

I think he,s overly cautious about people making statements that could put rte at risk of getting sued .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,885 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

But the statement that was made about people from Coolock being in Belfast wasn't a lie. It was a fact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,978 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

Then what if they find out it was a group claiming to represent Coolock but not from Coolock?

You don't know it was a fact. It's highly probable that they were from coolock, but there is a very small chance that some randoms could have created a coolock says no sign and gone up.

Kinda hard to deny when people are identifiable in photos. Maybe very good photoshoppers?😁

It's clear to any impartial observer that the crowd who travelled to Belfast did not represent the will of the people of Coolock.

In fact even some of their own group have fallen out with them over their antics.

They have been condemned from all sides of the political divide and only represent their own twisted agenda.

BOC may have misspoken but he was right to try and put clear blue water between the decent Coolock people and that bunch of charlatans.

seems the same' defence' is trotted out whenever this stuff happens…."its only a small group of people' yet when youths

are racing stolen cars around the hood and the Gardaí are called the crowd seems to get bigger?

If its 'only a small group of people' why aren't they rounded up and brought before the courts.

Are you seeing all of the communities out Brendan? Specsavers thataway »»»»

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,695 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Next thing you’ll be telling me that the post is not true………….

Like the little lads up in Derry chucking petrol bombs were not children but garden gnomes.

You’re a great lad for the selective viewing Francis, I’ll hand you that.

    Go wan out dat,lad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69,680 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

On any of the cases Brendan did you see anything approaching the majority of the community taking part? If you did, then I think we can start a GoFundMe to get you an appointment. It’s not like the dentist, won’t hurt a thing except your pride maybe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,695 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

It’s not an election Francis, we don’t need “a majority” to prove my point.
Way more than a ‘small section of the community’ actively or tacitly get involved in this stuff.

And Francis if you think this joust is going to extend to around 5 pages…….I have news for you🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69,680 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Brendan, you did not, repeat, did not see anything other than a small minority of the communities mentioned involved in violent disorder.
Do you know the population numbers we are talking about here?
You are wrong, or blind. Take your pick.

Don’t want to be challenged, don’t make false claims.

Theres a small no of people who wish to be involved in riots or attacking buildings that maybe used to house migrants .young people are reading misinformation on x Twitter and racist content that is being posted by extremists . It seems to happen every year young people throwing petrol bombs against police in certain areas in Belfast as long as I can remember usually in the summertime

Anyone with an unjaundiced eye can see these are minorities. Generalising and stereotyping communities is not the way to go in wiping it out. Enabling community leaders to work on the ground to educate and divert should be the responsible government response. Not forgetting genuine engagement and consultation with those on the ground.

There are times listening to the Sunday show when I really miss Marian.

She used to get to the real issues although she had her "Brendan" moments occasionally too. But not as much.

For instance, she would have probably been attempting to get into the heads of the refugee protesters in Roosky, Oughterard, Ballinamore, Carrickmacross, East Wall, Carlow, and Achill etc to see where they are coming from. She would have given them a fair platform to express their concerns. She would probably have made mincemeat of the sometimes idiotic Fianna Gael stance on these refugee camps.

Did you not get the joke there? Slooooowwwww. Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are now two sides of the same coin.

Good lad, my apologies, didn't get it, was cleaning out a spluttery load from the cats shíte tray.

    Got distracted.

That joke might have been funnier in your head, pal.

Not seeing much humour in it.

I thought that was a really good panel with Sinead McSweeney (former Twitter exec) and Lucinda Creighton. Career wise, it's a shame Creighton went down the anti-abortion dead end, and is out of politics as a result. Would also like to hear more from McSweeney about social media regulation. I'd say she more than anyone in this country has a better idea of what is possible to achieve and what isn't.

This mornings show was another classic in one sided broadcasting. The panel was stacked with NGO types who fulminated at length about 'social media' and 'disinformation' and so on. Well it was mostly Colm O'Gorman who kept rising to the top.

Then they switched to housing and the same Colm O'Gorman was scathing of the state. Perhaps not entirely unconnected was the fact that his daughter is out in Aus and likely priced out of ever coming home.

The odd thing was though that the same Colm couldn't add 1 + 1 and get 2. He didn't seem to understand that the debates on 'social media' that he so despised, were in many cases from people in similar boats to his family. People who have been affected by the rapid expansion of population in several different ways. In his world, it seems that these other riff raff should suck it up but something needs to be done about his issues.

What did ever do to deserve the likes of him and his fellow travellers.
