I was counting the votes. It looks like 24 is the only one left.

24: Blancmange - Living on A Ceiling. This gets my vote because it is a great tune. I'm not mad about Neneh Cherry's Buffalo Stance.

One of my picks just a quintessential 80s choon.

Quite like this track, lettuce never speak of the remixes.
    Kolido wrote:
    Blondie - Call Me

Better song out the two in this for me.

    Q/Match 25
Bon Jovi - You Give Love (A Bad Name)
Not their best song but the better of the two options

    Q/Match 26
    Abstaining

    Q/Match 27
    Blondie - Call Me
Catchy song but would of went the other way if it was Come On Eileen

    Q/Match 28
    Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Hands down the better song and fair dues to whoever nominated this song, it slipped my mind

You Give Love A Bad Name - absolute banger of a tune!
Boys of Summer - a true classic, and a long time favourite of mine.
Call Me - the type of song that would have me on the dancefloor and singing along.
Ace of Spades - we definitely need some proper rock tunes in the competition, and this is one of the obvious rock classics.

    Q/Match 21

Kim Wilde - Kids In America

I loved this song when it was released and still do.

    Q/Match 22

A Ha - Take on Me

Torn on this one as fools gold is an amazing tune. So amazing, it’s timeless whereas take on me is pure nostalgia which this comp is about.

    Q/Match 23

    Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin

    Better song IMO

    Q/Match 24

Blancmange - Living on the Ceiling

Haven’t heard this since the 80s and brought me right back.

Match 25: You Give Love A Bad Name - Not familiar with the other song. just had a listen and it's definitely not for me.

    Match 26: No opinion

Match 27: Geno - I love Blondie, but this is an absolute classic that's massively underrated.

Match 28: Ace of Spades - Who doesn't love a bit of Lemmy?

WTF??? Seriously??? Jesus, I hate Take On me, and I really hate the video for it. I could never understand why everyone loves it so much.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,323 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

    25. Bon Jovi - I didn’t know the other one and it’s not bad but not great either, annoying repetition at the end but You give Love a bad name is just a very good tune.

    26. Sonic Youth are one of those bands who have just somehow passed me by. I gave this a listen and while I wasn’t a fan of the vocals I really liked the guitar and have never been a fan of Henley’s one.

    27. I didn’t know the name Geno but as soon as I hit play the intro was instantly recognisable and a good song but I love Call Me by Blondie.

    28. Another one I wasn’t sure of until I played it and a decent song but vote has to be for Motorhead - a rock classic.

    25 Bon Jovi
    26. Don Henley...always thought he was singing about poison summer though

Hardest one for me so far but who hasnt belted out the chorus of this at 4am in the morning whilst sat on the throne?

Er.... no one? Just me then... well this is awkward

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

The Final Countdown - I like both these songs, but for reasons of pure epicness, I have to go with Europe.
Pour Some Sugar On Me - Every Stripper's favourite song. A Classic.
Personal Jesus - no contest. Depeche Mode are class and this is one of their best.
Heaven Is a Place On Earth - this was super tough, because I love both of these songs, but like Heaven Is a Place just that tiny bit more.

  • Registered Users Posts: 343 ✭✭Siobh73

    29. Climie Fisher
    30. Huey Lewis
    31. Depeche Mode
    32. Want both of them, what a harsh pairing!! Going with Human League. Sorry Belinda

Match 29: Love Changes Everything - I really hate that Europe song

Match 30: Pour Some Sugar On Me - always had a bit of a soft spot for Def Leppard's cheesiness

Match 31: Personal Jesus - probably Depeche Mode's best song

Match 32: No opinion, not a fan of either

    Q/Match 29

    Climie Fisher -Love Changes

I know the final countdown will win but I love this song.

    Q/Match 30

Huey Lewis and the News - Hip to be Square

80s movies and Huey Lewis goes hand in hand

    Q/Match 31

    Abstain

    Q/Match 32

Belinda Carisle - Heaven is a Place on Earth

    vs

Human League - Don't You Want Me

Ah man! This is a cruel one. I can’t decide. They are both great. But I have Belinda Carlisle cheekbones and played her album and the go go girls all the time.

    Belinda it is.

I like both of these but I think I could listen to this one more than the final countdown... I'm under no illusion that this will be a popular idea!
