    See post above.

Originally I had said do it over the phone, be kind, but just do it.

    I've changed mind.

But! Whatever way you do it. Be kind and gentle "not you it's me, I'm just not feeling it " as cliche as it is, is good imo

If I was about to be broken up with by a work colleaugue I'd want it done asap so I'd have a few days before I see them in work.

I dont think by phone is ideal. Why dont you come back nearly and ask to meet him?

Total BS, if you want to break up with someone who's in another country nowadays there's not need to do it by text/email.

Ring him and explain. Not difficult. WhatsApp etc. affords you free calls.

Just wait until you get back to Canada and meet up in person.

I don't understand the posters telling you to do it ASAP so that he could have time to process, or in case it ruins his start to the new year!

Whenever I've ended relationships, it always took me weeks to decide if that was the right thing to do. How could that possibly be unfair to the other person in the relationship? These are decisions that are not taken lightly, and the OP made the decision over a few weeks, so leaving it until she returns makes no difference.

It will be better to do it in person so that you can both get closure.
