I would love to see this, just to see how hilariously it would fail. Everything is made in china!

I can't believe it's going to be a happy ending.

Fair play to them for getting the word out, but the outcome may not be what they expected.

China will simply suppress any dissent.

Good luck with that, the device you're posting from was probably 80% / 100% made in China.

    We're all at fault.

We want it cheap. We want it yesterday.

Some people freak out if their Amazon deliveries are a day late.

China will dominate the 21st century as the West worries about trivialities.

    True.
    I am not disputing that.

    100%

We're all so so fixated with trivial issues that we forget or don't recognise the life affecting issues around the world.

Could it not just be someone having the craic at the card factory?

Are you referring to the Falun Gong prisoners OP?

That was my first thought too. I doubt it would be a case that though. Working in a glorified sweat shop would beat any sense of humour you have out of you.

There must be truth to the fact that the cards are made in a prison as Tesco didn't come out & deny the fact.

Its in the Times today. Foreign prisoners from the US, UK, Europe and South America imprisoned or on remand in Shanghai's notorious Brigade 8 prison.

There is something not believable about this one.

The current Chinese government are probably the most powerful regime in the history of the planet. Not even the Egyptians, Roman Empire, the British Empire, the Soviets etc had a farer reaching influence and intelligence surveillance as the current Chinese government.

Sport (as seen with the NBA, Arsenal, French League) are afraid of their lives of upsetting them. The entertainment industry like Disney, Netflix and so on are tailoring their content to be Chinese friendly.

The Chinese with their surveillance, finance, technology and social credit system is on the brink of becoming the planets greatest ever empire.

And posting from my Huawei phone, I for one know where my bread is buttered and I think the Chinese Government are doing a great job.

I remember the first thing I ever seen that was made in China, it was a ruler in school.

Im 45 now but that was a long time ago.
That ruler is a great metaphor, another time I was fishing off a beach with my son he was 6.
And digging a hole and i asked him where was he going to with the hole, he said dad im digging to China..

So he was digging to China and I had a Chinese ruler, a shiny yellow one made of wood.

A lot of kids had one, easily broken and easy to replace.

Back to the ruler Inches, millimetres and centimetres along with a protractor in the middle, they covered all angles.

They started to measure their potential from simplicity.

Like the time the astronauts had problems with gravity and pens for writing, the ink wouldn't work with the lack of gravity, so they asked the Russian cosmonauts what way they got around that problem.

They just responded by saying we use pencils.

    KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID

    This story is wild!

China has a good whupping coming down the line, the sooner it's done the easier it will be.

The prevailing attitude in mainland is that every other person in the world is dirt to be trod on, and that they are simply rising to their natural position. If anything, the ruling party over there keeps the population at bay, a check against their "enthusiasm".

I'm starting to notice some shops, here and other countries, that display signs stating "not made in china". Wild that it's come to this.

I actively avoid anything produced in China, where I can, which isn't easy. Fook them.

That's not why they use pens in space.

Pencils have particles of graphite that gets in the electronics and can cause short-circuits and explosions..

Absolutely. China, where half the Internet is banned, yet some fella in jail uses a .com as a contact. Something tells me that providing prisoners with computers and Internet wouldn't be the high on the list of priorities in China.

They don't. They wrote out the link to 'Peter Humphreys.com', surprisingly a foreign journalist who was held in that very same prison whilst on remand some years previously.
His crime, writing an article on Chinese corporate corruption.

Real-politik dictates that states only intervene when their own interests are threatened. The internal actions of China to genocide a people, Uighir Muslims, is not something the Irish state is worked up about as it does not effect the GDP metric. A token protest over mumbling about human rights suffices.

Thus other posters have mentioned a better approach. Start to buycott Chinese goods. Their economy is based on mass exports and this type of protest will hurt them where they are most concerned with, the balance sheets.

    Read the link above.

Starts with the same fella that sent this note - except he's been out for a while but obviously still likes the attention.

The email contact is also a Financial Times address.

Media BS written all over this one.

What I find hilarious as well is that all over these Isles people scream that prisoners should be made to work to earn their keep. Some fella in China is 'forced' to pack Christmas Cards and all of a sudden it's totally unacceptable...

EDIT: Just read Fann Linns post above - hadn't copped that it was other prisoners using Humphreys name as a link...

China has integrated itself deep into our consumerism that it is neigh on impossible to boycott their products when it is almost in everything.

Capitalism of the West has exploited China's cheap labour, China exploits its people and copyright laws with an absolute total Authoritarian Government... getting more powerful off the West's greed. China have long been playing the patience game, buying up everything.

People wanting cheap products are ultimately to blame. And they don't care, as long as they get it.

there are calls in the US to decouple from china , the best thing for the US would be to shift outsourcing to South America or even india. As it is China is just one giant IP theft system and the US is playing a part in its own future demise

Certainly people wanting cheap goods are not helping. However the the people ultimately to blame are the Chinese authorities.

Plenty of places have cheap labour. While their governments tend not to be great they are not in China's league. China isn't torturing people because they want to supply cheap goods. They are torturing people because the authorities are a horrific disgrace to mankind. I am sure they use some of the labour etc. but that doesn't seem to be the core reason. Like the Nazis. They didn't torture Jews for economic reasons. They tortured them because they were terrible human beings.

China is maybe the worse country for human rights apart from north korea ,theres 1000,s of muslims in prison just for their religion .
They are using state of the art tech to watch everyone,
most people use apps to buy or pay for a service or item.
Its hard to buy anything with cash. The government has a stake in every company, protest or do something the government doe,s not like and be arrested .
Theres the great firewall of china, any apps or websites the government does not approve of are blocked or banned .
there are so many products made in china, tv,s , pc,s ,phones it would be hard for a western country to ban chinese products .
In the 80,s it was japan that was competing with america , in 2019 china is the next superpower.

I'd be careful of taking info about China at face value nowadays. There's a lot of misinformation going around both absurdly positive and absurdly negative.

Also, let's not get Americanistic here as we gave a much different relationship with China than America has

Yup, a lot of companies moving to Vietnam which is actually quite "pro" American.

Chinese organ stealing from Falun Gong members has been going on for years, and have been mentions on boards many many times.

Chinese president Jinping were in Ireland and there were, thankfully, some protests but most people don't give a toss.

I personally think it is a good thing to get prisoners to work and keep busy it would be good if they adopted that here. Like in the USA were they got chain gangs to fix the roads and such and when they leave prison they have some life skills.
