Best anchor type for inland waters

    Hi all, here is my next newbie question. My boat, a 27 ft GRP cruiser, is intended for use on the Shannon system (lakes & rivers & canals). It does not have an anchor. I am bewildered by all the different anchor designs. Any suggestions on the optimal anchor type for this type of underwater terrain would be very welcome. Also, guestimating the boat to have a weight of circa 1400-2000 kg, are particular anchor sizes & weights recommended? Also, for freshwater, is galvanized steel a reasonable choice?

    do you have an electric windlass or will you be hauling it up by hand?

    Plow or fluke would be fairly standard designs. You'll need plenty of chain, but be careful as it will all start to weigh a lot on a relatively small 27ft boat.

    But the weight of dragging it all in by hand will get old very quickly and you might want to figure that into your budget.

    I have an 8kg folding grapnel with chain, rope and a bow roller same as this https://www.sheridanmarine.com/product/folding-grapnel-anchor-kits says it's popular with freeman 23 so might be a bit small for you but you are welcome to it if you are willing to pick it up.
