"Spanish-speaking countries don't have alligators, so most Spanish speakers call them "caimans", "crocodiles" or "lizards". Lately some have been trying to push the use of the loan word "aligátor". The fun part is that "alligator" itself is a result of Spanish people calling them "el lagarto" ("the lizard") and English speakers thinking that the preposition (el) was part of the name."

The ship that dominates the view appropriately alludes to the trade with Great Britain that drove Charleston's economy.
