except when you live here and they call the whole country “Holland” when they’re speaking English.

    I was shocked.

    they/them/theirs

KLM in-flight magazine is called Holland Herald. They don't do a great job of not calling it that over there

No idea how they devised this "Mafia Index" or came up with this data!

All the parts in green are inversely proportional to the amount of omertà.

Also, does it refer to Mafia only, or to all the other mafia-like criminal organisations?

It has to refer to all organised crime organisations. Calabria, the toe of Italy, is 'Ndrangheta controlled.

Schematic map of famous Georgian caves, including Krubera-Voronya Cave - the deepest known natural cave. As of August 2024 total denivelation of the cave was reported to be –2224 metres after repeated survey of the whole cave and subsequent dive in the bottom sump.

    Untitled Image

Edit: The "dry" cave section ends at -2,146m when a diving section begins. This diving section is so far around 200m long & narrow tube and it is 50m deep. The last reached depth is almost at sea-level. The explorations continue to lead Gennady Samokhin. They haven’t explored much in their previous pushes, because of how challenging this section is. To give you perspective, [story told] Gennady Samokhin lost one of his tank valves on the dive in. but the section he was in is so narrow that he could not simply u-turn nor go back. His only option was to continue further in hopes to find a wider place to turn back. A risky decision that had to be made in no time. To make things worse, he knew his other tank might not last for the journey. If you are wondering whether he made it, yes he did!

I’m a bit surprised the Netherlands and Belgium have such a low average speed. But they’re so densely populated that the trains have to stop very frequently.

also, the biggest distance between cities in belgium is ~200km (liege to bruges) and the latter has a population less than half that of cork city - not really worth investing in high speed rail.

That's not quite how it works. There are still long distance trains with limited stops.

Not huge countries and somewhat weedy train electrification on the bulk of their lines (1500 and 3000V DC respectively) would also add to the reason.

Might you be confusing Lille (in France) and Liège?
