I’ve been going to Portugal for over a decade, owned a house there for 5 years and am currently in a ferry returning to Ireland after 9 months there. My house has Portuguese families, I use usual supermarkets and host and am hosted by Portuguese people. You’re almost certainly right that the number is too low, I am simply commenting on the relative propensity to se large trollies of UPFs in Portugal as compared to Ireland (more specifically Dublin) or London where I spent 20 years.

The food in Portugal is undoubtedly poorer in quality as regards meat, the same or better as regards vegetables and significantly better as regards fish. However, their preparation methods are ****.

Indeed but not UPF! Tinned fish, sardines, tuna etc also forms a significant part of the diet (and former industrial base).

    But not ultra-processed.
