    Mullingar seems okay in terms of cost also.

    But cheap or no, the rental system is a shambles and the minister for housing has a lot to answer for; to be fair, he seems like a f**k up.


    Yes indeed because he gave into the media pressure and adopted left wing policies that can't work, instead of using pro supply based policies.

    Rent controls, increasing pro tenant regulations, high local taxes on construction, ever increasing construction standards and social housing requirements without tax breaks and a hostile climate. We even have calls to reduce our constitutional protections of property rights.

    You are right that the public are screaming for more supply. But wanting more housing doesn't count as pro supply policy.

    The measures introduced have been counter productive to the normal supply and demand economics. At a time when supply is low, demand is high, rents are at historical highs, the number of landlords and available properties is decreasing, that is not the normal response to a shortage of rental accommodation and increased rental incomes.
