It's not likely that the world will become vegan overnight. If veganism becomes more widespread, demand for beef and dairy produce will fall, and fewer cattle will be bred. Hence the herd will shrink. If it ever happens that the whole world become vegan, then there will be no demand for beef or dairy cattle, and no-one will breed them.

Things like this have happened before. There used to be far more goats in Ireland than there are today, but as demand for goat meat and goat milk declined, the national goat herd declined along with it. This didn't involve a mass slaugter of goats.

Grass is the most productive use of Irish farmland at the moment because the price of beef is what it is; "productivity" is measured here by the amount of income generated; in terms of producing food raising beef cattle is actually not a very efficient use of land. If demand for beef falls sufficiently, then grass will cease to be the most productive use of the land and other uses will come to dominate.

Mostly right. Beef won't die out. More like a shift from sucklers and purpose bred beef to dairy beef. Grass will always dominate as dairy is built on our grass systems. Of course, that's based on dairy continuing to be the #1 ag. enterprise

Just like the Christmas turkey the thread was rested for 5 years.

Wake me up when it's all over.

    it’s a 10/10 first page. Comedy gold.

Hilariously it ls people like those on page one that turns people away from being associated with veganism.
