Gals with and/or without makeup?

    There's entire internet forums dedicated to trashing gals who use makeup to enhance their attractive leverage.

    I don't want to turn this thread into something like that.

    But, sometimes I can't help but marvel at basically, the effect it has on me personally.

    A well made up face can make up go weak at the knees.

    It can be the difference between me saying, "AW LAWD!!", or, "meh...." - I kid you not.

    Is it just me?

    Is it just poorer quality skin that's a turn off?

    Or the makeup that's a turn on?

    'Splain it to me;

    Help me understand?

    Some girls aren’t pretty and can make it seem like they are using makeup. Others are and don’t really need any.

    Prefer little make up myself.

    A heavily made up face like it was applied with a trowel is very off putting for me.

    Also, the make up has to come off at some stage.

    I've seen one particular 'influencer' in person. Wouldn't look at her twice. Should see her mush on Instagram though.

    Hate make up. It's so false. I don't mind a small bit, but so much so that it makes a women look like a completely different person, no.

    And some are not and still don't use make up.
    Actually scrap that. Not a girl any more, haven't been called a girl this millennium. (**** me I am old)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,786 ✭✭✭wakka12

    Think it depends on the girl. Honestly, I think some girls actually look worse with makeup on.. and make their skin look really dry and cakey and orange sometimes. But some girls are very talented at it, and know which features of theirs personally that need to be played up or down with makeup, and can really make themselves look amazing for nights out

    I think heavy foundation just looks absolutely awful though, on everyone. If a girl has really bad skin, yeh it can improve it, but I dont get the trend at all of girls with naturally nice skin just plying on mountains of foundation for no reason, you see it a lot. The whole idea of foundation is to even out the skin tone, if you already have that, then applying it just makes your skin look artificial for no reason. The trend of putting a big splodge of brown countour is also an odd one, may look good in photos but very often just looks like a dirty cheek in real life

    It's the Kardashian-Addams family to blame for a whole lot of it.

    Some girls need it to stop us males going back to the days of public stonings and trumping up charges against them.

    Some girls are made feel like they need it by magazines and marketing even though they don’t.

    Some girls treat it like a hobby and give two or three hours a day to it.

    From what I understand, it's not rocket science.

    I know there's shops that actually specialize in applying makeup but, if they can put men on the moon - I'm confident chicks can apply their own makeup.

    To me, it depends on the personality.

    If it fits, and the makeup works...... AW LAWD SAVE ME!!

    I can see how some chicks, heavy makeup just wouldn't "work" though.

    I casually hooked up with this little cutie one time - seriously turned me on.
    Seen her without makeup a few weeks after.

    I just couldn't get revved up for her....

    Wasn't happening.

    :confused:

    Assuming you're either a female or a gay dude - your comments seem well informed.

    What's the mechanics of make up application?

    "....very talented at it....."??

    I never considered it a special ability but, of course I know less that squat about it.

    What's the typical make up routine?

    Primer - foundation - concealer - spray setter.....?

    Some chicks makeup their mouth also - don't know what that's comprised of;
    Lipstick?
    Gloss?

    Whatever it is I'm like, "dayum - you got a purty mouth!!"

    Rare enough I'd imagine, though years ago I knew one woman who looked scarily different sans make up. Two different people different and not in a good way at all. I could imagine a guy only knowing her with getting a shock when first seeing her without. Actually I've known a few who looked better without it, though to be fair that's more likely down to my personal preference for little or no make up. Not into the plucked and preened and polished, with hooker heels, push up this and suck in that look at all. Bit of a turn off actually.

    That's partly why I made this thread.

    I need to understand it.

    She had the personality - LAWD KNOWS she had the body, had the attitude - everything.

    But when I saw her face without the glamour;

    Put it this way - when I see it, WITH the glamour??

    Pfffff

    Mind = blown.

    But without - I dunno, just feels like a passion killer.

    But let me be clear; this was exclusively a "hook up and get down" type of deal.
    No windy walks.
    No holding hands.
    Not even a quick sandwich together for Christ sakes.

    And yeah - no makeup?

    This day and age(Christ I'm old just uttering that phrase)we met ladies in bars and festivals. It didn't matter how they looked on the outside. But what was attractive was their confidence,humor,and outlook on life. Now it's all about how they look on the outside, no matter how shallow they are on the inside. Younger generation has no idea what a real woman is.

    ****! Maybe women are different but a guy's face would be way down my list. Ok if he smiles is a big one. Is that his face?
    Definitely shoulders/arms be ahead
    And personality........current guy I am in love with it's all personality. Not my type at all, not classically attractive but when he smiles at me I go weak.
    Bad news is he doesn't know and I am too scared to tell him.

    I think its a talent, like artwork on your face. Takes steady hand, attention to detail, colour co ordination, knowledge of products, how to apply them,when to..I dont think there would be paid make up artists if some werent more 'talented' at makeup than others! Yeh Im a guy but I find those video transformations so fascinating to watch!

    Due to hormones and skin density, etc, women tend to have worse skin than men.

    Make-up covers up the blemishes and makes women feel better about themselves.

    It's a confidence thing. They are buying into a concept that has existed for millenia. Generation to generation. Mother to daughter.

    On Instagram or Facebook, you can look a million dollars. If you remove the make-up, it's the great leveller.

    I call shenanigans on the bolded bit TBH RR. About the only time I've heard men say something like that was either coming from men who had little enough choice in the dating game, or men who had a lot and didn't want to come across as cocky ****, so wheeled out the "personality" thing.

    This also seems to suggest that there's a choice in play in nature, an either/or. That someone(man or woman actually, but usually more aimed at women) has either good looks, or a personality, not both. I call shenanigans on that too*. I've known very attractive people with equally attractive personalities and utter troglodytes that was almost a reflection of their inner lack of beauty.

    As for the "younger generation" being somehow different. Sure social media and the like has hightened silly expectations, but looks were always in. In "your day" the "10's" weren't stepping out with the "3's" too often, just like today.

    *some cultures like the ancient Greeks thought the opposite and that external beauty was a sign of internal beauty and personality. Just as daft a notion.

    Not so sure about that. Yes thinner skin ages faster alright, but I'd bet that a lot of breakouts in men and women(that aren't actually medically based) are down to bad diet and general lifestyle issues. I'd bet slapping on layers of various chemicals and pigments on the skin isn't doing it any favours either.

    Dont really agree..that men have 'better' skin. I think flaws in mens skin are just accepted as normal and men dont feel obliged to nor or they expected to conceal them. Lots of men have eye bags/under eye darkness for instance, in fact almost everyone over about 21 has some under eye darkness, just as many men do as women do, but women are the ones who cover them up. mixture of standards set by themselves and placed against other women but also by the rest of society, such as studies showing women who wear make up being paid more and considered more employable than women who dont wear makeup

    Ah here. No quick sandwich together even.
    All looks. No wonder her bare face left you cold.

    Yup.

    Way I see it basically - and I may have to use minorly explicit terms here;

    Good sex, seems to me to be consistently preceded by this kind of, "rush".

    It's like, almost trippy.
    You see the person and, you feel a little higher or something.
    It's like your blood runs faster - and as cliche'd as it sounds - hearts pounds harder.

    AW LAWD SAVE ME!!

    ...

    *clears throat* - point being, when I see, "perfection" - that happens to me.

    The body, the hair - aw lawd the hair - the dress sense, and - the face.

    The makeup - perfect skin, perfect appearance - HNNNGGGG!!!

    So;

    When I saw her face - no make up - my blood didn't run faster, heart didn't pound harder.
    I saw flaws.
    Not bad skin - just, it wasn't working for me.

    No bueno.

    I was watching this film yesterday - lazy Saturday, called "Unfaithful".

    It was, Richard Gere, and some hottie.

    Basically - the hottie hooks up with a younger man and engages in debauchery etc.

    Richard Gere finds and was miffed.

    Now - Richard Gere - realistically, what woman cheats on Richard Gere?

    BUT - I couldn't help but notice, his skin looked LIKE $HIT!!

    Where's the skin of his woman - perfect.

    There's an attractive leverage associated with youthful looking skin that the male demographic has historically overlooked, or maybe the impetus so maintain skin is just no expressed in their gene code - who knows?

    Point being - I agree with teh bold text;

    It's more accepted - but that doesn't mean it's right.

    Most of them.

    I was doing a job where a load of them were at an event. As they turned up we were talking to a group of young girls who knew who they were.
    One girl was finding it hilarious pointing them out in real life and showing us their instagram.
    They were standing behind where we were working, and some of them were genuinely shocking.
    All of the girls were genuinely shocked.

    I think maybe 2 or 3 (a very small amount) looked the same.
    The Muf one (spoken about on boards before they emigrated to reddit) looks nothing at all remotely like her instagram.

    Fair enough R. We must just have moved in different circles in "our day". :D

    I can say that among my peers, both men and women, looks was a large chunk of it and how people would describe someone they were into, or not into. Sure a "model" who is a bitch type would be a no go, save for momentary bragging rights, but even there I knew a few lads(and lasses with handsome, or wealthy men for that matter) who went out with good looking women for those looks, even when they were harridans. It didn't tend to last, but it got going. I also knew men and women who ignored or rejected nice personality people quite simply because they didn't rev their engines. I've done it myself. I've even tried to ignore that and go outside my comfort zone in what I find very attractive and it didn't work. No matter what my heart and big head was suggesting, little head wasn't having a bar of it.

    Oh I'd say it can depend a lot on local culture, even local subcultures too RR. So even in a small enough city like Dublin there would be some nuanced differences between what the D4 Rugger Bugger crowd would see as plus points compared to say the inner city crowd would.

    Though there's a lot of research out there going back decades that shows that people overwhelmingly end up with those from a similar socio-economic and educational background to themselves and overwhelmingly match up with each other on objective physical attractiveness. Where there are outliers it's nearly always the man being lower on that scale, but higher on the resources and/or social standing scale.

    Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
