So, AHers, as the thread title asks, do you have a hobby that you enjoy?

And I don't mean 3 minutes of fun with Pam and her 5 sisters or trolling on the web - they are a given... ;)

My hobbies include art - painting - creative writing and astronomy (stargazing with my telescope) - nice ways to pass the time when I can find the time.

Any hobbies you used to do - trainspotting, building matchstick models, gardening, fishing, etc that you can't seem to find the time for - but would like to take up afresh?

    Don't be shy...

Astronomy, I have a subscription to Astronomy magazine - just love reading about the subject in classical magazine media rather than online articles.
I occasionally go to dark sky areas to view sky with binocs and take some photos.
I need to get a telescope though I have no idea where to start with mounts etc.

Apart from that reading, - popular science and history - as I get older (41) I am really getting into history.

Be very careful, and selective, when if you do go looking, H. There are some dreadful “brands” out there, even expensive ones.

Tasco, in particular, are to be avoided.

Yeah, their everyday range is poor.

Computer games. Still love playing them as much as I did when I was young. Sadly I don't get to do it nearly as much as I used to but oh well.

DIY has become my main hobby since we bought an old house that needed a lot of work. It's made me realise that I probably should have looked at a trade out of secondary school rather than university. There's an immense satisfaction to being able to stand back from something and think "I did/made that".

Other hobbies would include fishkeeping, home-brew / wine making, photography, lego, learning about architecture to name a few.

Would love to have the time / space / money to get into woodcraft or vehicle restoration.

    25*70 ?

I have 10*50 .. I guess with the 25*70 you could see the rings of Saturn, I can see the Galilean moons of Jupiter with mine, even that is impressive.

Sure, I have quite a few. Beekeeping is my main hobby now, but I also enjoy reading history books.

In before the sports boardsies post on this thread.

..using vintage software like Google Picasa and Windows movie Maker.

Go for woodcraft OP. Restoration like that is pricey in this place, and could get moreso post brexit.

I have a collection of model aircraft and aviation literature amassed over 30yrs.

My son and I have quite a nice collection of comics and memorobilia including some really nice signed pieces that are quite rare.

Recently got into 3D printing, and much to my wife's chagrin I've also discovered the horribly pricey hobby of watch collecting! (Not that I own anything of note)

Couple that with the usual sports and movie interests that many of my age share...
And it's probably quite a good thing that I have a Mancave to hide out in :D

I collect football jerseys. Was mad about them when I was a kid, had all different teams from different countries, was all that I wore. When I outgrew them I gave them to the second hand shop. Always regret that as some of them would be worth a few quid now. Have ended up buying some that I previously owned as a kid, wife isn't too happy with the room they take up but I keep on telling her that these will be the pension funds in 25 years time! :-)

I just love walking around areas in Dublin I don't know much. It takes a few hours, is good for the soul, and reveals a lot of things I never knew. Other than that, nothing much, but what I do is enough for me.

I have too many hobbies. I don't have time for them all but the main hobby is knitting. My recent knits are socks. Not big bulky woollen socks you would buy in the shops but nice, soft, thin merino wool blend with nylon. They are like cushions for the feet in my shoes. I love them.

Well OP you know me from facebook, I'm hardly idle for a moment.

My main hobbie (are sports hobbies?) would be Judo & BJJ, but due to one reason or another I haven't competed this year, the first year in a very long time I haven't been competitive but I love coaching too.

Outside of that if I'm not running I'm swimming, cycling or walking the dogs and in my chill out hours I read (I love my Kindle).

Motorbiking is my passion, when I'm not wearing sports gear or silly pyjamas on the Judo mat I'm in leather :)

I'm not a collector of anything and I'm not even sure any of the above are hobbies rather than pass times. I'm probably too competitive at Judo for it to be either.

I collect Batman stuff (comics, novels, art.. anything really), play a bit of guitar, it used to be way more.. but the time just isn't there anymore. and probably the one I spend most time is listening to music. It's the cure of all ailments (not really I know..) but it's a great relaxer.

My hobby for the past almost 20 years has been making electronic music. I always had a creative itch that I needed to scratch so even as a kid I would always be drawing or colouring or just creating something.

Then I got into electronic music and was interested in how it was made and went from there. I've owned and sold dozens of synthesisers over the years and love spending a couple of hours getting lost in making weird sounds and experimenting with different things, sometimes I make songs but more often than not it is just a bit of cathartic and hugely satisfying tinkering.

The great thing about making your own music is when you have a tune or melody that creeps in to your head that you're really enjoying but can't place who it is and then your suddenly realise it's one of your own tunes.
