You can get your son's PPS number by phoning the Department of Social Protection on LoCall 1890 927 999 or by emailing cis@welfare.ie

Once you have that, plus your own PPS number, you can register for the Under 6 GP card online HERE

You need to claify with Child Benefit section if any application was made for your son. They can be contacted via the same phone number as above, just ask for Child Benefit Section.

A word of advice, don't call a 1890 number from a mobile phone, use a landline. If you only have a mobile and have free minutes, you can use their landline numbers for free - (074) 916 4496 is the number for child benefit.

Your child benefit will be back dated if you never received it. Apply to Welfare and get the child’s PPS sorted. It’s not difficult.

    Not quite:-
    "Time for Claiming
Child Benefit must be claimed within 12 months of:

the date in which the child was born, or
the date the child became a member of the family or
the date the child/family came to reside in Ireland.

When the claim is made within this time period, Child Benefit will be paid from the first day of the month after the child is born or becomes a member of the family or after the family takes up residence in Ireland.

    Late Claims

If a claim is made late, it is paid from the first day of the month after the claim is received. Claims can be backdated if the Deciding Officer is satisfied that there was good cause for the delay in making the claim.

OP - in addition to the CB Application Form you will need to send in a written request asking for the CB to be backdated and explaining why you didn't apply for it sooner.

It will be backdated once Child Benefit are satisfied with the explanation of what’s been going on for the last two years, tbh.
If it’s already been paid out and hubbys spent it then that’s nothing to do with CB.

I think the OP can use the valid excuse of her own health as to why she never followed up.

Keep calm when discussing it with the office and things will get sorted.

It looks now as if the child benefit was paid out but the OP doesn’t know what happened to it.

Don’t see how that could happen. It’s only paid into the mother’s account. Something is strange with this post

It looks as if she is terribly stressed tonight. She seems to be conceding now that she did get the child benefit but her husband has access to it while she was very ill.
He said he was saving it, but can’t account for it now.

If it’s been paid into an account then it’s doubtful l she’ll get anything back. It’s not up to Welfare to monitor child benefit spends. Go and see them tomorrow and hopefully you can get all this resolved going forward.

Thanks to everyone for their replies and helpful responses. I feel more relieved in knowing where and who to turn to. Especially since time has past so much on this issue.
Be rest assured my husband did not spend it, I have seen all the accounts today as proof of our situation. There has been a lot of upheaval to mention over a few years which had been a distraction. Hopefully tomorrow I can get this issue sorted for my son . We both feel awful as it is. I just needed to feel clarity and thank you to all for pointing me in the right direction.

Taylor your story is changing with every post. Don’t worry about it just go to bed and get some rest and SW will confirm tomorrow that your child has a PPSN and there’s no further “registering” of your child needed.

You say you are already claiming child ben for an older child? Correct me if im wrong but doesnt it then jsut get automatically paid for further children once their births are registered?
I know on my first we signed a formabout 2 weeks post birth that arrived in the post, on the second we did nothing and the mont afterhe was born i automatically collected an extra payment in the PO
