Saw the countdown video was dropped on the youtubes so threw up the thread.
Forgot to add a Poll so if a mod want's to do it that would be great :P

edit: UFC subtitles in the video of the highlights of the Conor fight "It's only business".

    That's that so :pac:.

UFC needs to stop putting on events where I don't want either fighter to lose.

As said in the mclugnerlet proper 12 thread. Khabib to win but he will have to earn it. Dustin will be no walk over. I also think khabib knows this.

Looks like it's ppv, not the strongest card to justify PPV

So what time do you reckon this fight will start at?? Can I catch this in town?? I'll be out so can't really watch the prelims.

I can't see any way Dustin wins this. I always underestimate him though, he's a tough guy. He has his struggles vs Alvarez and Gaethje, but found a way to win.

If the main event falls through it's an average (at best) fight night card. I'll cross my fingers for you all. I live in Sydney, so the start times are usually perfect here.

4am start of main card in Sydney.
    Load of balls. :pac::pac::pac:

I mentioned this in another thread but its relevant here. Given the location, they've decided to push muslim fighters. Besides Khabib and Makhachev, that means lots of low ranked/debut fighters.

Makhachev v Ramos could be an interesting one.

After the bell went between rounds while Conor was getting mauled and Khabib was talking to him, when the clinch against the cage was broken up at the end of the round Conor said something to Khabib. Most people heard him saying "it's only business" and saw this as him basically backtracking on his prefight trash talk.
Others claimed this was worng and he said something else.

In the OP of this thread there's a countdown video released by the UFC which includes highlights of the fight. That exact part of the fight is included with subtitles showing him saying "it's only buinsess".

That debate was mind numbing. Insane stuff, went on for weeks.
Sadly the people argue for something else aren't going to accept subtitles as definitive. Sure it's just the opinion of one guy writing the subtitles. :pac::pac::pac:

Early prelims are better than most of the main card and prelims.

UFC clearly bowing to ESPN+ to let them sell more subs.

Dustin winning wouldn't be as sweet or maybe as epic as bisping but it would still be
a great moment in mma history
The only man to have more ufc fights than dustin and win a
    belt was mike himself

I have to say I didn't think he'd ever be in this position but he's a
monster at lw to be fair to him

Odds are huge on him too, can't resist either

The weekend can't come quick enough with this beautiful start time also :D

I thought you were saying more fights than all champs except Mike.
But I get you now. Most fights on his record at the time of challenging. Depressing stat for team Poirier.

Who is second most after Bisping?

    Dustin
This will be his 23rd fight
bisping got a shot in his 26th fight

I'm pretty sure nobody has had close to this number
of fights before getting a shot though

27-0 Khabib will crush him I think. Usual story bring it to the ground game over. Obviously Dustin's camp have a plan in place to counter but I can only see one winner.

haha :pac: randy beating tim and mike beating luke my two favourite
    moments in mma

true, it was only his 17th fight within the ufc, think cerrone was much
the same when he got rda

you can add another 10 to mikes total outside of the ufc and 9 to dustins

I don't see either of these totals ever being surpassed unless someone like cerrone gets a lucky break
fairlytales like bisping happen only once in a lifetime

I think Dustin has a reasonable chance. Not that it's likely, but it's not outlandish either. Khabib is a menance on the grapple/ground, but he's ground out a fair few decisions too, and tends to make strikers ineffective due to the fear of the takedown and being kept there rather than being an actual world class submission artist or anything like that.

Guys like McGregor, Porier, Fergusson, all have a decent chance against him. Obviously didn't work out for McGregor but sooner or later it will happen. I'd say Tony has to be the prime candidate for wearing him down through sheer, inhuman endurance and volume. He's like a wilder McGregor that never tires.

The main reason I think Khabib mauls Dustin. Is the fact that Alvarez was doing similar and in a position to finish him in their fight.
Khabib does it better than Alvarez.

This is the part of that fight that I'm referring to.
Eddie didn't do a great job here, Khabib would have got the finish.
Not dissimilar to the finish of Khabib v McGregor.

Dustin won't make it easy for him, but I don't think he'll have enough to beat Khabib.
Realistically, Tony looks to be the only one that can survive and have enough energy left to pour it on in the later rounds when Khabib starts to tire.

First name that came to mind was RDA, but he's nowhere even close. 18 fights if I count correctly.

Really pulling for Dustin this weekend!

The only person in that division that can beat Khabib is Tony, the rest will get taken down and cuddled, you cannot do that with Tony has his BJJ is elite level and he could tap Khabib

Khabib would likely nullify his BJJ easy enough, he's all about smothering and trapping limbs while he pummels you.
Tony has a very strong wrestling background though, that'd help more than BJJ. Plus his inhuman cardio.

“Elite” is kinda arbitrary when we’re talking about professional fighter.
Tony’s bjj is good. But he’s not on the level of the top guys. He deserved the black bekt but that was relatively recently. I think Eddie Bravo is in the best position to make that call.

People keep talking about Tony's BJJ, but i can't remember the last time i saw a top level wrestler being submitted.
Tony's best bet is to use his wrestling to keep it standing.
I actually think Justin Gaethje would give Khabib as good a fight as anyone in the division for that reason, but he may be a bit small. He barely cuts, and Khabib cuts a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,961 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

    Dustin Poirier by Sub
I think outside of tony dustin has possibly the best chance though as he probably won't tire like most even late on (would love to see gaethje khabib also)
It's a chance of a lifetime for him and I really believe he'll push khabib very very close and leave no stone unturned

conor had some success round three, if dustin has a similiar good spell midfight I think he could actually stop khabib when fatigue eventually kicks in late rnd 4 or 5
Khabib did look fairly ordinary in rnd 3 v conor understandably but I think a mixture of conor being exhausted helped there

Is this the best ever fight card on at a normal time for Europe to watch?

7pm 'kick off' is literally a perfect time for an event to start.

Think Dustin will give Khabib a lot of problems. Will have a small bet on "Paid in Full" Porrier and Feldor double.

A big title fight at a normal time is an absolute treat. Plus a main card with high profile fighters. I'll take it.

There's been a lot worse PPV cards in the recent past.

Its a really poor card but could throw up some good fights. The return of Khabib is something I can't wait for though, he'll have too much Dustin. Hopefully we get Khabib vs Tony fight before the end of the year.

Tony has the only chance of beating him I believe but Khabib's style is just so difficult to compete with. He drags you down, ties you up, smothers you and just pounds on you. He proved in the McGregor fight he won't respect your striking, he has the confidence to stand there and wait for an opening.
