Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Great trailer. Will look forward to this. Hopefully they sneak in that cheesy techno theme song

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,286 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

It's ticking all my boxes, I am excite. Not sure the gruff voices were needed for when the characters (specifically Scorpion ad Sub-Zero) talk in uniform. But everything else looks awesome (although Kanos eye laser looked a bit... off). Loads of characters, plenty of gore, good looking fighting and what looks like decent acting, I'm sold! Like what they did with the Theme too.

Fingers crossed the cinemas will be open by April, I'll actually take the chance to see this, but the latest or earliest possible viewing. Seeing as it's an 18s, I doubt there'll be daytime screening if they do open, but I will be going to whatever one will bring the least amount of people!

And as is my way these days, I won't be looking at anything else to do with this until it's out. Trailer shows plenty of scenes so don't want to dilute it anymore, I even turned away at the fatality montage at the end as I want them to be fresh!

Can't wait for this! Have been looking forward to it since it was announced - never normally watch trailers because I think they ruin the viewing experience of the movie to a certain extent but couldn't help myself with this! Really hope I can get to watch it on the big screen

Kano's laser eye sound effect and Goro's terrible cartoon look aside - this looks pretty fun.

    Alright I'm in !!
Scorpion vs Sub-Zero for 20 mins please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Homelander

Looks like a ton of fun, the "Get over here" bit at the end was a bit cringe though.

Also while the effects look good in general, there was a bit with Goro that looked pretty awful, hopefully the final product is better than that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,302 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Kano's laser eye looked a bit off. With the side on view it looked too fake (like when you see comedies where people puke a lot) and then didn't seem to be coming from the top of or just above his eye.

Hopefully it turns out to be good.

I don't think the budget is spectacular so they probably invested where it mattered such as Sub Zero.

People are crapping on Jax's arm exploding but I laughed at the absurdity of it all.....just like I would laugh at the absurdity of the Fatalities in the games. I mean as far as I'm concerned that's mission accomplished.

from a huge MK fan , I love how this is looking , wish the cinemas were open to see it properly though

How will it be viewable? Netflix etc?

It's HBO Max in the States and wherever it's available.
But as has been discussed in the Justice League thread, distribution for regions that don't have HBO Max will need to be decided.
Likely be Sky Box Office or something like that.

Liked that! Especially the 'GET OVER HERE!' and the subtle version of the theme music.. just googled.. someone has a version of it on youtube:

Question... Will cinema's here hold off on releasing these movies until we exit lockdown or are we likely to miss the theatrical run?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,286 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I'd say we're likely to miss it, but no doubt they will be shown again down the line. I'll watch it however I can as soon as it's available, but I'm 100% going to see it in cinema at some point if possible!

looks great. Trailer gives away some very exciting points.
    Cole looks VERY like sub-zero.

One thing I noticed that I seem to see is missed, where the guy who becomes scorpion is fighting the others ninja, you can actually see his frozen wife and child in the background, very quickly!

The release date has been pushed back by a week now till April 23th.

I think HBO worked out that if people signed up for just a month the day the Snyder cut got released they would have gotten the Snyder Cut, Godzilla vs Kong and Mortal Kombat all in the one month.

No word on how to legally watch it over here, ie: possible to get HBO max in Ireland legally? I'd pay for 4K...

    Sky Store

Can you get stuff from the Sky Store without a subscription/already a customer? And do we know if they drop the quality?

Edit: I Googled, can rent the movies without a sub but the subject of quality is up in the air.

Quality is a lot better than the likes of now TV. They cap at 720p. For example the UHD version of Godzilla v Kong on sky is 2160p. Also available as 4K on Google play for €17.99 so Id say MK will be the same

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,255 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Yeah I imagine based on WW1984 and GvK this will be available on Google Store for rent at 17.99 in 4K if you're pushed.

I mean they had to squeeze it in somewhere, even if it's just played over the end credits. Would have been uproar if they didn't.

I'll be disappointed if they don't slip this version in somewhere

That is hard to listen to.

That song was going well till the stupid bit at the end... As for kid, fair play for trying...

I am excite! I've been avoiding everything, which has been hard as WB on Facebook seem to want to spoil a lot of it.

The CGI blood ain't great but that was a legitimately good scene. Maybe maybe maybe. The video game movie curse might finally be lifted.

To be fair, the recent MK story modes are one of the few games I've just watched the cut scenes for.

I've been trying to avoid everything for this movie, I'm very excited! Anybody know where it'll be available yet? I'm guessing Google Play/Youtube and Sky Cinema.

Its hitting hbo max first. Which we cannot get over here and judging by previous hbo max released films it will be available on the sky store but not right away.

It will be available tomorrow in the UK on VOD through Amazon Prime so I'd have a good guess it will be the same here.
HBO Max is not available in the UK just yet, but Mortal Kombat will be releasing as a VOD through Amazon Prime Video. The movie will cost £15.99 to rent in the UK from April 23.

I'd imagine it will also be on Google, iTunes & other VOD services.

Is there VOD on Amazon Prime here? Used to have the UK region before but now on the Irish one and can't find any VOD on the app.

  • Registered Users Posts: 279 ✭✭maddymcmaddser

Doesn't look like we're getting it here at all, someone shared this on twitter earlier, I wonder are they holding it over for cinemas reopening in the UK and here?

Also the WB UK twitter account has absolutely no mention of it https://twitter.com/WarnerBrosUK?s=09

That link has now been updated to:
"Sorry UK folks...at present there are no UK release plans confirmed or announced."
    So bizarre!

Im tempted to watch this for nostalgias sake. Saw it available today for download if you are into that 'old fashioned' way of watching stuff! So old its probably not even against boards policies anymore :D

Absolutely zero reason why this shouldn't be on Google Play to rent given GvK was.

Hungry **** must be banking on a cinema release.

Exactly. To be honest if this is any way decent I would be watching it multiple times - renting it tonight and going to see it on the big screen when cinemas reopen. As it is I cant watch it at all. I know I can watch it by "other means" but I'd rather pay for it in the hopes it would be successful and we'd get at least one sequel.

I enjoyed it. Equal parts silly and enjoyable.. Looks absolutely amazing too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

So no VOD services are showing this today then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭seandotcomm

Thought that was deadly. Just the right mix of cheese. Some raaaandom MK characters thrown in there. Enjoyed comic relief Kano.
    Hopefully it gets a sequel

Doesn't look like it. WB UK have gone quiet.

Decisions like this lead to piracy. I would legitimately love to watch this legally, but instead WB have decided not to release it in some form over here, and won't even give an update as to when it may. Just hope there's a good enough copy floating around, because if you're like me and trying to avoid as much as possible, it's going to get ruined by some dicks online before it'll even release over here (I basically know the Mandalorian story because of social media).

Regardless, unless it's pure pants (which it won't be, because MK!!!) I will most likely go to see it in IMAX as soon as we can. But no way I can wait.

It boggles the mind doesnt it? Especially in this day and age, they are pretty much making the decision to be robbed to piracy by doing this, i have no idea why they would do it, its insanity to me

I'm watching it right now on HBO MAX. No need for piracy. 15 dollars per month

The only reason I can think of is that they're banking on this as a potential hit in the cinema due to 90s nostalgia, and people being eager to get out once restrictions lift. But yeah it's mental. Of all the hills to die on, a game adaptation being successful in the cinema isn't one.....and during a ****ing pandemic no less.
