Thats dissapointing. How did you try, tap to pay or app? Ionity have a great physical set up but I find that for a small number of users its really difficult in getting a charge started, probably something to do with the payment authorisation.

Using a credit card for tap to pay has been a good recommendation as pre-auth get returned much quicker, and its not your actual cash thats being held.

However I've always used Ionity through my Charge My Hyundai card, and more lately using Elli or Electroverse and an RFID card. Has always worked first time. Would love to have claimed to use Plug & Charge, but my car doesnt support that.

I tried chargepoint app - offline for maintenance
    Ionity App - 40 quid taken *1
Card reader (new) - 40 quid taken *2 (on 2 different units)
Ionity App - worked on different charger

I kicked off a charge on the new fancy Gorey charger, car added about 5kWh and then charging stopped, no notification in the app.

Plug & Charge with Electroverse worked well for me. No pre-authorisation just started charging and then I stopped from inside the car and got an alert on the app for the final cost.

I was there today, couldn't even start a charge on one of the two new chargers on my Niro EV. Worked fine on one the four older ones. A guy there charging an id3 said he's there regularly and there's lots of people having problems with the new ones

It looks like Ionity now have a new version of their app out. Found through the recent EV Musings podcast on Ionity. They have now Introduced a new Ionity Go tariff. This is a tarrif that anyone can get simply by creating an account within the app, and gives a 3p discount bringing it in line with the Ionity prices in the Electroverse app.

Subscriptions are still available bringing the tarrif down to 53p/kWh (£5.49 per month) or 43p/kWh (£10.50 per month). All subs are on a 1 month rolling basis.

Elli from VW introduced Ionity Boost which charges 50c/kWh at Ionity for a monthly of 6 quid. So if you charge 30kWh in the month the subscription is paid. The bonus is that Elli provides an RFID card so you don't have to deal with the whole mess of app not working not recognizing the charger id or other complications.

@zg3409 I dont mind you reposting my words, but I'd expect that you'd credit them to me, and the location they were posted, rather than pasting them as they were you're own. Or re-word it yourself and own it.

@dsandson apologies, just spreading the news, busy in work at the time. I am not sure many people want their "real" name from Facebook posted in a googleable way forever.

Thanbk you. Happy that you just say from a post on the EVANI or IEVA FB groups, or wherever else.

App is very strange at the moment (as is the website)
Tried charging in cashel yesterday and after logging in I didnt see the Ionity Motion on my profile which I have been paying for all along, only the Ionity Power and Ionity Go

I eventually i just select the Go to start the charge. I also tried looking at the website and then minute I was selecting Ireland for Subscriptions it would redirect me straight the UK section of the site?!? However the good news is that when i got my invoice etc I was still billed at the Ionity Motion pricing 🤷‍♂️

charged in Cashel today, charger 5, one of the ones not working. Sees the car but touch screen doesn’t work. Got on to support they rebooted it but it didn’t make any difference.

^^^ Hmm app is defo borked. Can't choose the Go subscription in the App (from Profile - just get a spinning circle) and can't initiate a charge either selecting the Go sub… Seems there's no means of entering a payment card directly.
    Signing out gives redirect_url error….
Not that I need to use Ionity anytime soon, but I could't unless I 'tap' and pay 4c per kWh more.

App seems to be working well enough for me, although I only went as far as the prompt to enter payment details

Maybe check your account details in the app and see if something is missing?

On a side note, I noticed the app now displays the charge state of some chargers. If you tick "show all chargers" it displays the charge level of cars charging

Only seems to be for some cars, I wonder what the difference is

    ^^^
Details are all correct. If it's working for you, I'll try and delete all app data and start over.

I guess all cars report their charge level back to the charger, so it can stop at a preset level (like 80%). Perhaps some car manufacturers have an agreement to let their cars report this detail publicly on to the Ionity network or it only works on cars from a certain date onwards. Hard to know.

I wonder if it's to do with the analytics setting in the app, maybe it needs to be on to upload the charge status

is Kill North and South open 24 hours? I know the chargers would be but is the station? Can I go in and have a cup of coffee there?

They seem to have removed the ionity motion plan from the app, anybody else see this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭Buttros

I just see ionity go... 69 cent / kw and ionity power @ 44cent / kw for 7.99 for the first month and 11.99 after that.

Driving from Cork to Dublin airport tomorrow. Back Thursday. Be worth signing up for the month and using Dublin north if I have time tomorrow. How busy does it get. Will be passing about 430 pm tomorrow and 530 or 6 Thurs. Not ideal timing for the m50.

Kill would be handier, just off the motorway, newbridge as well is quite cheap

That’s annoying, I was just about to sign up for Motion, and it’s still referenced on the website so hopefully just a glitch.

I really like Ionity as a network, but their billing and session recognition can be unreliable at times. Sometimes, it takes months before they even process payments, which has happened to me a few times. It’s pretty flaky.

FYI, that's a very bad time to be tackling the M50. I'd honestly recommend leaving an hour early if you can manage it

The Ionity hub in Finglas doesn't ever seem full but it's difficult to get to traffic wise. There'll be a load of cars coming off the M50 into Dublin around there

If you do go for it, you might be faster taking the back road to the airport instead of trying to get back to the motorway. Screenshot below should give you an idea of the route

Thanks, was thinking of the traffic on the m50 in general been a dose. Wasn't thinking of the traffic going off and on as well. Ill probably stop at kill. Enough to get me out of Dublin and hopefully to cashel Thursday. Car does about 400 at motorway speeds fully charged.

If you're in the Blue parking then there's 2 DC chargers there from Certa. I think they're only 50kW but good in a pinch

EPower have a chargers in the Red car park as well

There's also chargers in Apple-green in Santry if you're around the front of the airport

Of course putting chargers IN the airport apparently made far too much sense 🤨

That new ionity app is a lot worse than the old one. Took a while to get working at kill but worked. Couldn't get it working today at cashel. 80 euro later I have up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭dsandson

Thats odd, maybe its not working well with their Irish payment processor. I'm not usually a fan of using apps at chargers, but took the £5.99 subscription out whilst I was over in northern England. Only used Ionity twice but but both charges worked first time as you'd expect it should. App seemed quite good from that experience.

However I think theres still an Ionity payment processing issue… most people seem to have no issue, but a small minority seem to have big problems getting a charge started, either by card or by app.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 478 ✭✭cc

The Ionity motion plan is back on the the app again. I had contacted support and they confirmed it was ideed intended to remove the plan in the first place, looks like they had a change of heart.

I like how they give an indication of how many kilometers of charging pays for the monthly fee

They claim 150km a month pays for the Motion plan. That works out to something like 25kWh/100km which is a bit on the high side

200km would probably be closer to a typical use case

Seems like a bit of a marketing gimmick but at least it gives customers something easy (albeit inaccurate) to work with

First time using the updated Ionity at Athlone yesterday.

All 6 chargers in use constantly both times I was there on the trip up/down from Galway to Dublin. Still don't understand how tight the car park space is there, and no place to queue to wait for a free unit.

Surprised I was the only ID driver that had plug and charge set up on our car, worked flawlessly as usual. The other VW drivers I was talking to didn't know anything about it and were shocked when I told them.

Is it not more expensive than paying Ionity directly unless you’re paying a monthly subscription ?
