Specialized are one of the biggest names in cycling (up there with Giant and Trek in brand name recognition). That particular bike is a 2014 model and I personally would see it as overpriced and €300-400 would be a far more realistic price.



That said the Allez is an excellent starter bike and if you could get closer to 350 it would be a good deal.

One of the biggest bike brands, I love specialized the only down side is their bikes are overpriced when new. I think Giant make the aluminium frames for specialized.
My first bike was an Allez that I brought second hand on adverts. It's done thousands of kilometres and survived many harsh winters and from reading back on posts from the previous owner it had already been through a lot by the time I brought it. I think I paid about €520 for it as well, I have it 8 years now and it's the 2008 model.

The CAAD is great also and many on here love them but the price is too high for a 2007 model.

Frame size of 54 might be a touch big for me looking at their size chart it's for 5 6 to 5 9 and I'd be 5 7..

Thanks Tuxy, I'll have a better look into this one. I'll be back in Ireland in next few days hopefully , so id be able to go try it out for size as this is local to me.

Agreed but if could get 100-150 off even, would imagine there is a chance.. Surely most people price high in the hope of getting more out of it.

The Allez Elite had an RRP of €1,000 back in 2014, like I said they are a bit overpriced when new. There's a good chance it was bought cheaper under the bike to work scheme.
Current supply and demand is what will dictate price now. It seems like the owner knows a bit about bikes so there is a good chance he did maintenance and kept it in good condition.
Well worth taking a look at it anyway.

So, just while I am idling a bit of time here, is there anything in particular I should look at on a bike if I go to see it?

Obviously I'd look at general condition of the bike, tyres etc. Is it clean. a quick check that it actually works I suppose, test the moving parts and that.

Cycle the bike. Ensure front and rear derailleurs/gears work smoothly. Make sure front and rear brakes work properly. Make sure there is no clicking from the crankset when pedalling. Lift the front wheel off the ground and spin it to ensure it’s running true/straight. Do the same for the rear. Other than that just a once over for dents/frayed gear/brake cables etc etc

I personally wouldn’t look at a bike with Sora 2200 shifters. It’s old technology (2007) and not very nice to use. If your willing to wait something more up to date will pop up for sale. I bought a 2018 Cube Attain with R2000 Claris (basically brand new bike bought on the BTW which had been cycled 4km) for €240 two weeks ago (got the original receipt with it, it cost €810 last October) and last year I bought a 2017 Merida Ride 100 which has been cycled less than 200 meters for €180, again a BTW bike that was never used) So my advice would be hang on and get something more up to date.

This would be a good buy if you could get it for around €350. Full Tiagra 4700 groupset which is light years ahead of Sora 2200, decent spec wheels and the bike looks like it hasn’t been used very much at all.

I did look at a few of the second hand options, but not a great selection at the moment.

Yeah decent spec bike. I’d put in a €250 offer and wouldn’t give more than €290 for it though.

The only thing I’d do with that bike is loosen the stem face plate bolts and move the handlebars into a more standard position.

Anything I look up says she should have Shimano ultegra. Is that correct?

Another one where the bike is way too big for the owner.
Saddle slammed as low as it will go and hoods pointed at the sky.
There was never a 54 size in that frame 53 or 56 were the options.

It has the old 10 speed ultegra

If its within reasonable distance of you then yeah why not. Bring a set of allen keys to adjust the saddle height and handlebars as the way its set up at the moment it would impossible to know if its a good fit for you.

Cheers bud, I'm heading away now for the weekend with a few of the lads so going to take a break from looking, enjoy it and then view a few Monday. I'll give them a call and see if I can go around Monday as that is local to me .

The bars don't look too out of place for 2010, many companies still supplied that style back then. The newer compact drop bars only became standard in more recent years.

It probably would be possible but won't be cheap as you would need to buy new gear shifters too.
