Wasn't my intention to give misinformation, was genuinely curious if any fee was applied on entry into country from outside of EU, apologies if I've offended

Guys….it's been explained many times before. PC components amongst many other items are in a zero-duty category. There is no import duty levied against such items. The Irish VAT does need to be collected though - at a rate of 23%

Companies such as Amazon, OCUK etc are in line with export guidelines into the EU in that they accommodate the VAT collection at purchase point. As long as the documentation is correct, and the VAT is collected, such items will clear customs as zero-duty imports - (We'll stick to +150euro purchases as there is a separate mechanism for that)

Hopefully the screengrabs below will show up (Boards is really on its last legs) - average MB with a price of about 185 euro - that's the total price including the UK VAT rate. Once you proceed to checkout with an EU address, said VAT rate is removed - as the now 154 euro value shows in the items list - and the import fees deposit is added to the total - in this case 23% of the item ex-VAT is approx 35 quid. Amazon classify it as an import fee deposit, because it's only a holding value for it's customs clearance. Its part of the reason why everyone sometimes gets those little re-imbursements weeks or months later when the Is are dotted and Ts are crossed. That's the final total, currency conversions-aside. There is no extra import as long as the documentation is on point which is boiler-plate stuff now for such companies.

Where you can come a cropper with PC stuff is if you're buying from a company or person in a non-EU country that doesn't accommodate proper VAT collection - that can include Amazon re-sellers by the way, so you need to be on the ball rather than chasing the deal with them - only deal with 'Sold by Amazon' stuff to be certain. Once these items arrive into the country, the courier is required to settle the VAT implication - that's where the 23% gets lumped onto you plus a handling charge from the courier itself. Doesn't matter if its AnPost, DPD or whomever. They are obligated to collect those fees based on the value indicated on the paperwork. If the crowd mark it down, great, but it's not always a certainty as item descriptions can attract more questions leading to requests from the shipper and/or receiver.

There's really no way to 100% avoid things nowadays. The government is getting their pound of flesh one way or the other - even the continental Amazon sites bump the extra 4% rate on components to meet our VAT rate. The Oireachtas Bar aint paying for itself.

I do, regularly. They don't charge import fees, just Irish VAT which accounts for a very slightly higher price than advertised. You may be buying from third party sellers.

It was Amazon I buy rtx 5070 ti of Amazon UK £786 and £180 import fee so €1190 in total.it was probably because of cost.I can show proof later either way send it back for return had a 30 day return which Amazon usually only give third party think it 14 days.

It was still cheaper than casekings 😂.

That's VAT. I'll say it again, there is no custom duties on PC components.

    786 * 23% = 180.78

How many times does this need to be explained?

I was sort of considering a new GPU , have a 4070 at the moment and its a great yoke for 1440P but im always watching.

I expected more from nvidia with the 50 series cards but il be honest if i was buying now id be going with the 9070, it seems like the best buy in many many years.

Loads in stock again on overclockers (albeit above MSRP) great to see big restocks happening quickly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Simi

Finally got a reaper (albeit at a greatly inflated price) delighted!

£686.23 (€817.62) delivered. Not great, not terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭rob808

I end up getting a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming for €817 off overclockers not to bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,525 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I got the Pure off Amazon for €780. Not due until the end of April though so may end up cancelling it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Simi

I had that with delivery in May so I cancelled it.

Ah I'm not in a rush for an upgrade. It's a nice have but not a must have. If I don't buy it I'll get the Switch 2 and get a new GPU next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭rob808

They keep popping in and out on overclockers and says there getting a large shipment in a week to 2 weeks time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭Longing

Yep in the same boat. No rush not at these prices. Have Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800XT still great at 1440p.

The Switch 2 is high on my list this year. Hoping it delivers and is as great a success as its predecessor. The Switch is great sitting down in front of the TV and chilling. Sometimes PC gaming especially FPS Clan v Clan is too stressful. With the Switch you can just Switch OFF…😏

Switch 2 will be OOS/scalped for 6-12 months, bet. 😔

I went for a 7800xt at €480 in the end after deciding I don’t want to spend €800-900 on a card that was meant to be much less. Will be a good upgrade on my trusty but now ageing 2060 super!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,560 ✭✭✭SickBoy

Was looking at a 7900xt myself instead of the overpriced 9070xt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Simi

That's a great card and I'm sure it'll serve you well. I personally went for the 9070xt for it's improved ray tracing performance and competitive pricing Vs the 5070ti. But I'll freely admit that I wish it eclipsed the 7900XTX and XT in raster performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

FSR4 is a big improvement on FSR3 as well which is a plus for the 9070 XT as well.

If FSR 4 wasn't a thing I'd probably go for a 7900 XTX given current pricing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Icyseanfitz

I think when pricing settles a bit and drivers mature the 9070xt will the better buy compared to the 7900xtx in both overall performance and pricing, from what I've seen across the board is that it's currently slightly behind it in raster and beats it solidly in RT, the 8gigs extra vram is a great boon though

Don't write off the 9070 non-XT too quickly unless you are really chasing every last drop of performance you can muster, or put more directly pay attention to it's price Vs whatever you might be considering for an XT.

At $550 Vs $600 (alleged launch MSRP) only those who care about efficiency (but not enough to try to dive into underclocking/undervolting etc) might see anything in the non-XT but the price gap doesn't have to grow much at all for the non-XT to catch let alone go past the XT for bang-per-buck. I won't be surprised if the XT holds more stupid prices for longer while the non-XT is relatively ignored and more quickly heads towards a sane price.

I wrote this initially thinking overclockers had a £600 non-XT but when I went to try and check what that ended up as delivered here (maybe £623) it turned into out of stock. £623 Vs the £712 above would make the non-XT a little better bang-per-buck bar some edge cases and there are edge cases the other way where even at MSRP the non-XT is already winning in bang-per-buck terms.

I'm not saying £600 is a good price btw, my dumb math says £510 would be MSRP and even that's assuming the $550 is pre tariffs when it should include (I think) 10% if things were truly honest and transparent!

Also from what little I have seen so far my suspicion is that for those who would play with overclocking/undervolting/etc the non-XT could narrow the gap unless you lose the silicon lottery but that's quite speculative on my part so you would be nuts to base your buying decisions on my possibly dumb thoughts alone ;)

I'm pretty much set on a non xt,I don't want to upgrade my 650w core gm psu for the sake of 10% performance. My main monitor is 360hz but only 1080p. Final reason is efficency , they use around 100w less power which is a tonne relatively speaking.
