Id love my own victorian walled garden complete with, a section for vegetables, cut flowers, herb beds, fruit trees and a heated glasshouse, which will be also a butterfly house with controlled heating.

Two working sheds and an area for making leather goods like belts and harnesses.

I'd buy a taxi plate or get some sort of professional driver licence and take people to/from cancer wards free of charge.
Patricularly runs to Dublin and Cork's dedicated hospitals.

I'd like to say that I'd buy a small bookshop and spend time there, not really caring if the business did well or not. I'd also love to spend more time at calligraphy, which I really enjoy but don't often get time to do it.

The reality though, is that I'd probably become an alcoholic.

When I was a teenager there was a shop in my town that was run by a guy who came into money and basically just did that, but it was a fantasy and roleplay themed store. He sold table top supplies and the like while sitting in there spending his days playing World of Warcraft.
He eventually shut doors though because he was extremely unreliable with orders.

I'd probably open a really upscale and unconventional wedding venue and fleece all the couples that are willing to throw crazy money at their big day.
I'd also open a day care center for children from difficult backgrounds and run a lot of projects there like a community garden and a junior entrepreneur program. Give out scholarships.
Ship my own brats off to boarding school and then take like 3 months out every year to travel around.

If there was enough space I'd love to open an adjacent facility where I could take in rescues and have them looked after and cared for.

If money was infinite I'd buy a few thousand acres, get it planted with native trees like ash, oak, beech, birch etc. It'd be a huge amenity for people to enjoy for generations to come.

Also, I'd donate to a stem cell research lab in a Dublin hospital my brother attends. The scientists there could further their research, maybe find a cure for his condition.

Apart from the obvious id try and help a section of society of my own choice, I think I'd get elderly people out for tours to heritage sites now and again and collect stories.

I'd love to say something noble came to mind straight away but all I thought was ''Get the driveway fixed''. It's in such a state.

I'd look after my children, get them set up. Travel. Lots. Micro-invest in small family businesses around the world. I have a couple of pals to whom I'd love to give secret windfalls, a they do great things but are stony broke. One is a philosopher, so I guess I'd like to be a patron. Buy good camera and recording equipment and make films. I guess I'd buy a new computer too as this one is so fecked the I and the O buttons are worn off. And I need a better one for editing.

If money was no problem I'd buy a small industrial unit and equip it with state of the art machinery to make bespoke furniture - but there would be a very long lead time as I'd go weeks on end without working a minute and then maybe put in a day or 2 if the mood took me.

Either that or open a small remote beach bar on some paradise island, one that never stood any chance of being commercially viable, but I'd hang out drinking beer in the sun and chatting with whatever travellers happened to stumble across it. The more sexy / interesting ones would get free beer.

This is pretty much what I'd do - buy a place with about an acre of land just outside town which has scope for landscaping and horticulture - I even have a plan for it - 20% walled kitchen garden, 25% formal garden (mini Capability Brown), 20% lawn, 35% wildflower and trees bring in my eco-friendly friend to work with and be happy

I would be similar, I would love a large kitchen garden to maintain at my own leisure. Growing food, chickens and a few hundred acres of native trees. It's actually my plan to achieve this (minus the trees part due to land constraints) but to buy a small house with a decent bit of land and have a simpler, less consumer driven life.

Depends on the definition of money as 'no problem'. Is it that all current living expenses are magically covered to free up time (i.e. no need to work for current income) or is it money as no object where no matter the expense it will be magically covered?

Assuming it's the former, then if I had loads of time I'd write, golf, exercise and think of something to volunteer my free time with.

That's what himself thought all these decades until his chief weeder went on strike! It's a battle against the tidal wave of weeds from May to October, a never ending war against slugs, aphids, mould, too much rain, too little rain, too little sun, rabbits, hares, etc. Anyways the horsetail can have the garden this year, my feet are up.

Depends on how much. If it's a huge euromillions win I'd set up companies. Stuff like coffee shops etc. the idea is to create businesses that tick over and make a small profit. The purpose would be to create jobs. the company doesn't have to make me a huge profit, just enough to keep ticking over and give good paying jobs to people. I'd probably also set up a charitable foundation.

If it was a smaller amount, enough for me to live on and pay a mortgage etc, I'd go back to college and eventually become an academic. I'd love to spend my life learning and researching and teaching. It'd be a bonus if i had enough money to buy a small apt somewhere like tuscany or the south of france where I could spend a month or two every year, just reading, sipping wine and carbing up

I've been gardening/growing for years, just on a much smaller scale. Very much just tipping away at it. As with everything it's all about attitude, it's only a chore if you make it a chore. Being outdoors weeding is a fantasy compared to working all day!

My folks did that, disappeared to the canaries, out of the way living a hippy life. But they still get asked all the time for free accommodation. You can't escape.

Depends on the amount of money we are talking about.

Situation A: If it was just enough to leave me mortgage free in my current house with an annual income of say 100k for life, Id spend a lot of time on distance learning and physical fitness. The rest of my time I would volunteer with an animal charity and actually get to engage with my interests/hobbies in a way that I dont have time to do now.

Situation B: If it was like a 25 million amount, Id buy a country home/manor house type of place with a good sized bit of land on it in Ireland. Id lock away enough such that I could always go back to situation A if I had to. Id do the same things as situation A except Id buy a gym and not worry about it making money and Id travel to places I always thought sounded nice to visit.

Situation C: Unlimited millions. Everything from situation A and B plus lots of philanthropist type stuff and investing in inventions/ideas that interest me. Homes in several places that are quite isolated, maybe a private island. Id also lock away enough such that I could go back to situation A if I had to.

For any of the above the minute I came into the money I would book flights and accommodation to my favourite hotel for a 3 weeks stay where I would set out plans about what to do going forward. I would hire a tax expert/financial advisor too. Situations B and C would allow me to get the best dental work, plastic surgery and personal training possible and maybe an unethical doctor to prescribe me nice things for recreational fun occasionally.

There was a thread previously on what I'd do if I won the lotto which was more of a philanthropic type thing but, individually, if I had say, a guaranteed after tax income of €50k/annum and my current circumstances in terms of family obligations (as in none) weren't different then I would pursue additional education such as different degrees or a Phd while simultaneously ensuring my physical and mental health was looked after.
Being able to spend 4 weeks or so at a time etc renting a cottage/flat in connemara/the canaries/London or wherever while reading/writing college stuff a couple of hours a day and enjoying the locality the rest of the time sounds very appealing.
