Thanks. I'll try again with the current build. I have modded it a bit to get good holy reduction. Think I just need to be more consistent with phase 1 so I can learn phase 2 properly. But may need to cheese it as I've to stay alive for a long time on phase 2.

I wish more weapons had as elegant and detailed movesets as Milady (awful weapon name though).

    It's over.

Who needs rivers of blood when you have impenetrable thorns. Seriously, the bleed damage out of this spell is insane and even more nuts when the Mimic Tear is getting involved.

I respec'd into an utter poise monster for Radahn (Verdigris Set, Bull-Goat Talisman, Leaden Hardtear) and my Mimic and I poked him to death with Mohgs Spear from behind our Fingerprint Stone Shields. It felt good.

I saw videos of Radahn getting killed in 30 seconds or less - it's gonna get nerfed.

I played Sekiro (Gourds), Bloodborne (Vials) and Demons Souls (Grass) before I ever played a Dark Souls or Elden Ring…. and I still think of all main healing items as just 'Flasks' now.

Radahn is the only boss I have left to beat. At just 14 Scadutree blessing so far I’m getting my ass pummeled, especially in his second phase. He’s just so hyper aggressive. As soon as I get up to Scadutree level 20 I’ll try cheese him with Impenetrable Thorns and Rot Pots.
The only other bosses I had terrible problems against were Putrescent Knight and that Saint of the Bud boss.

I hear about Scadutree level 15 and 20 and I'm wondering how am I ever going to hit that.

I'm level 7 or 8 and pottering about Scadu Altus and just reached the Dragon Communion place.

I found them all naturally exploring apart from two scadutree fragments and one spirit ash and it's because I ran past them like a dope except for one scadutree fragment in the abyssal woods which I was just sick of that area so didn't fully explore it.

Eurogamer has a nice article for them all which I used to get those last 3. Didn't make much of a difference but you do seem particularly low. You can get them all in about 30 minutes with those guides.

I was only Scadutree level 16-17 when I finished the game IIRC, you definitely don’t need to find them all.

I was about the same as Johnny, 16 or 17. I think they changed it in a patch that the boost you get is higher from Lvls 1-10, then smaller from Lvls 11-19, then a big boost for getting to Lvl 20. But I think unless you've been tracking all you got since the beginning or would have a good idea on which ones you're missing, it's not worth trying to find them all. Beating Radahn should be doable from Lvl 14 on and I'd focus more on using the right weapons, talismans, armour etc, because by that stage you're either surviving enough hits to get some offence in, or you're not.

I think I’ll aim for the 20 because at the moment I’m being completely overwhelmed, even with holy resistance armour, incantations, consumables and the Golden Braid. At 44 years old my reflexes ain’t what they used to be.

Beat the final DLC boss last night, was quite tough!! Wasn't really a surprise who they were as it had been spoiled on reddit and here before I got there. I didn't look at the moveset before though so was surprised by the constant aggression!!

The DLC was good, I felt bit it could have been tighter though, the map is so big with not a lot in it, feeling like that is probably a case of being so spoilt by the main game as its content is so dense and expecting the same.

Far too many low level smithing stones for "loot" as well, that actually got a bit annoying.

Overall enjoyed It though, I'll probably try out a few of the new weapons for a bit then leave the game for a a few months and start a fresh playthrough at some point.

Just entered the final legacy dungeon now, I've enjoyed it for the most part, took my time with it.

Picked up a nice weapon to pair with the RoB, kind of like a magic version of that called sword of night I think, they make a good Left/Right combo, inflicting bleed, fire and magic damage.

Just got that sword last night, Ash of war is pretty sweet

Shadow Keep feels massive and I haven't even drained the water yet.

Radhan is straight up the worst boss I've ever encountered.

Yeah, he's not great is he. I had to respec into a cheesy enough build and hide behind a shield for the whole thing, just glad its over :)

Fromsoft need to get called out on their rubbish more. The storeroom in Shadow Keep is abysmal game design.

Do you mean the specimen storehouse? That’s one of the most interesting, intricate and dynamic levels in the game IMO.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 54,139 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Yeah it was a great use of veritcality. The fireknights were a pain until you learned to beat them but that was a skill issue for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,745 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah other than the wild swings between the shadow ghost enemies who may as well just not have been there, but then Fire Knights around every other corner who were just a constant pain to deal with (oh yeah, and let's put one up in the rafters and give him an additional knock knockback spell too because f*ck the player!) meaning it was a bit all over the place, but it still didn't really make the Speciman Storehouse a bad level/dungeon overall.

Maybe being a caster helped*, but didn’t find the Fire Knights so bad. A few tricky placements for sure, but nothing that stood out as particularly egregious.

*of course, being a caster was entirely useless for Radahn to balance the scales

Have a second character running a Dual Katana Dex build but im not sure if im actually doing more damage Two handing the Nagakiba. Or if i need to pump more stats into Arcane to proc the bleed quicker.

Elden ring, a game about doing Science.

I never had much issue once I got up close quick enough, but for an enemy that can do such high damage, there's so many of them dotted around that area that it really amplifies how difficult they are. Especially since the only other enemies in that area are the shadow ghosts or a few of the demi-militia imp things, it means if you die in that area at all, it's to the Fire Knights.

They don't stagger easy and there's very little time between their attacks.

Yeah it's their longer range fire attacks with weird hesitations and speeds, and pretty hard-hitting physical attacks too that made them difficult. That's why I could deal with them if I got up close without being noticed too early; Wing of Astel AoE or even just Backhand Blades where you could get enough hits in quickly made them easy enough to deal with.
