You do realize that if we all stop using the auxiliary lane, the problem will move to lane 1, with people shooting up lane 2 and jumping in at the last minute.

This will leave the auxiliary lane empty for the likes of me, who drive properly.

I agree, I was trying to be facetious.

Technically, as long as it's not a continuous white line, people are allowed to change lanes (provided it is safe).

Granted. Technically. But my point is if we all acted like assholes but technically within the rules it would make driving a nightmare.

Of course, but I mean the drivers who practically beckon other drivers in front of them.

If someone barges into a non-existent gap I’ll brake, there just won’t be a gap and nor will I be a good samaritan and slow down to create one.

Youd hate driving behind me, if you don't like gaps. I don't like people being close to me.

and the long line of heavy traffic in the slow lane - going slow - which is fair enough !
There are no slow lanes it’s the driving lane. There no fast lanes they are overtaking lanes.

I have two similar pet peeves at J12 coming off. One is normally caused by the others. Coming off north bound and merging left towards Firhouse there is an auxiliary lane of a hundred meters or so. Traffic is normally backed up from the cross roads 500m up all the way back over the flyover.

First car through the lights on the slip tries to start merging 2 meters into the auxiliary lane instead of driving all the way to the end. Then no other car gets through the lights.

This creates a que that goes several hundred meters back where there is no auxiliary lane on the M50 so people have to que in the hard shoulder and it takes 4-5 cycles of lights to get through.

Then som bright spark a hole drives up the second auxiliary lane as if to turn right over the flyover and thinks they are entitled to cut left into the que to turn left at the front. And the bigger idtiots let them in. Sorry son jog on turn right and go all the way to the new roundabout and back up that way please if you do that.

My pet peeve are drivers who slow down when they enter the auxiliary lane, even though there could still be 1km to the junction. FFS, just drive along at 100 km/hr or whatever the limit is, will you?!

Sometimes it’s just easier to leave the auxiliary lane to overtake them, and then return back in.
