Can PlayStation 4 games be played straight off an external drive or do they need to be copied to the PS5 storage?

Thought it came out yesterday that the PS5 doesn't support external drives?

It doesn't support storing PS5 games right now, meaning you cannot transfer a PS5 game to an external drive and store it there. Support for storing PS5 games on an external drive should be patched in at some point though as there's no reason not to allow it. Obviously you won't ever be able to run a PS5 game from an external, but you should be able to store them there.

You can keep your PS4 games on an external drive and run them from it.

    From GamesRadar
However, there's a catch. You currently cannot use these external hard drives to store any PS5 games - even on a suitably speedy external SSD. You can only move PS4 titles onto external drives on PS5 right now, meaning you'll need to keep any PS5 games you want to install strictly to the 667.2GB of internal storage.

According to Sony this again will be addressed in the future, but there's no timeline on that.

What you can do though is make sure you head to the settings menu > Storage > Extended Storage and set all PS4 games to automatically install to the external drive (if you've got one connected), to make sure you're usually all that internal space for pure PS5 gaming.

Decided to cancel my preorder with Smyths for Miles Morales. Its 59.99 with Smyths can get it for 42 euro on the US store.

I have it preordered with smiths too are there any downsides to changing to US store? I've never messed around with that at all tbh.

Watched the DF review, looks good. Really glad they have addressed cooling and noise.

I did notice DF say that while back compat looks good they are a little confused about Sony weird not talking about it strategy,I've found it odd myself. In saying that any back compat games in the review looked to run really well.

The small SSD is a bit of a bummer, like the new COD is seemingly 250GB!

I would like to see proper 1440p support aswell, maybe they can add that down the line.

Does look good though. It seems to be a nice leap in tech that I dont think the PS4 ever was.

Might see if I can nab one at launch,if not no worries,in no major rush to get one.

You don't set anything to US, you just setup a new account as US and buy off that. When you buy a game off PSN then the purchasing account can use it on any console as long as there's internet, and anyone can use the game on that purchasing accounts primary console.

So if you wanted to play for MP or for trophies and that had to be on your main account then you can only play on the primary set console, only downside is if you want to play on your own account on another system and have someone else play on your primary console so as to share the same game then you can't do that. You could still do this while buying off another account, it's just that someone would need to use that purchasing account instead of their normal one.

If you give your email and password to a friend or family member both of you can download games from the shared account. You can only have two consoles at any given time sharing one account, so say your PS4 and your friends PS4.

Useful if you both want. Anew game which is 70 euro you can give 35 to the other person and split the cost effectively

Now that I like the sound of!!

The only issue I had was buying a game on US store playing it on my Irish account and finding out I then couldn't buy DLC. Had to play it on my US account in the end but was fine.

Ok so basically just set up a total new account but a US one and set it up on the ps5 along with my Irish account. Then I can play games bought on the US store on my Irish account and the only downside is some dlc I might have to play on the other log in? Seems like a no brainer for the money saved why have I never done this before now ha ha

Ugh. I know from the start that they said it would be a smaller experience, but 12 hours is way too short for €70.

Well in fairness, €80 for the two games is good value. €60 for MM is probably slightly overpriced but it's not a gauge.

One of the best things about Spider-Man was that it was a much a leaner, pacier beast than most open world time sinks. Happy MM is leaner again, honestly. I’m far more interested in it over most other open world blockbusters simply because I know I’ll reach the end in a reasonable amount of time. It’s a tad expensive, but as ever would rather games that don’t overstay their welcome - Lost Legacy was a highlight of Naughty Dog’s last three or four games because of it.

12 hours is a decent enough size campaign. I am sure there will be a couple more hours with side missions as well.

DLC should work on your main account as well, just so long as you go back to your US account to buy it (unless its region locked, which is rare in my experience).

Yea the issue I had years ago was buying FIFA on the US store playing it on my Irish account and then seeing I couldn't buy anything for the game threw my main account.

So that's the only thing you need to be careful with in that sense otherwise i never had any problems.

For anyone who hasn't watched this yet make sure you set game mode on your TV when your playing PS5 as the console won't automatically default to this setting and DF are saying it's a better experience using Game Mode.

Yeah this generally applies to multiplayer games as dlc is tied to purchasing account. Other examples would be fortnite or modern warfare. Saying that, Watch Dogs Legion is having issues with dlc content being unavailable to other users on consoles

Yeah, after seeing this yesterday, i checked my lg sm8500 and saw some settings were all over the place. Have no console now to configure the hdmi for it but will be the first thing i do with the ps5.

Not sure if this has been posted but you can request a camera adapter if you have a psvr (you need the serial number from the psvr box thing)

    https://camera-adaptor.support.playstation.com/en-ie

No guarantee you will get one I got an email back saying it still needs to be approved. And if granted shipments will begin around mid November

Woke up this morning to my credit card being compromised. first thought was "Sh!t the PS5 preorder!", luckily can log into Smyth's and update the payment details. Mild panic attack is not a nice way to wake up, 10 days to go :pac:

Still think its really stupid having games and controllers etc on sale a week before the actual machine. If the stuff is there sitting in the shops it should be on sale. I am sure Sony wont mind to much when the money hits there accounts.

Maybe not yet but they will get them before the release date. I haven't been charged for the charging dock yet and i canceled Spider Man last night otherwise there would of been that as well.
