I actually think you’re in a powerful positive here- if I were Nissan Ireland I’d want to silence you.
As a person seriously considering a second hand leaf, your information has turned me right off. And I’m sure it will other people also. I certainly won’t be buying anything from 2014, - a threat of a 9000 euro bill is just insanity

Apparently Nissan were bragging that only 0.01% of their Leaf cars failed.
Go ask them on Twitter how are they assisting those 0.01 % customers.

So - anyone know what breakers might have a gen 1.5 leaf in?

Did you check with Phil Fitzgerald? If he doesn't have one, he could probably source one or put you in the right direction. Did you ring Traynor's in Armagh (biggest dismantler on this island, they deliver to the south)

Did you ask Indra in the UK? They would stock it and have it tested before they send it on to you. I think they just want you to send your old one back so they can repair that and sell to next customer.

Much better than taking one from a breakers yard as they will have no expertise to know if the electronics are good or not.

Finally have an update, and it is good news. Sourced another inverter from the UK through Ebay, having spent weeks ringing breakers all over the country. Rare as hen's teeth.

Mechanic has installed the replacement and it's working. He is going to wash the six months worth of dust off it and drop it back to me this evening. I'd say he will be glad to get the space back in his workshop.

Job now is to get an NCT sorted as it expired while the car was sitting around and also see if the breaker in Kerry will talk about a refund for the faulty part he sent me.

Happy days, the diesel van can go back to sitting outside the house again for most of the week.

If anyone needs contact details for the mechanic pm me. I haven't asked him if he wants his details shared here yet.

Were you keeping the battery topped up a bit every now and again? I can't imagine being left sit completely flat for six months would do it any good.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

It'll be grand (assuming a decent level of charge), we had a thread here of a Leaf laid up a year and the battery was fine (12v obviously not)

Battery was around 50%. I'll do a leaf spy tomorrow and see how it is.

    How much for the inverter?

Forgot to come back on this but happy to report that the car has been working flawlessly since we got it back in October. Failed the NCT on a track rod end so was back to the mechanic for that. Final bill less than €1200 for replacement inverter from ebay and labour so happy enough with that outcome. Still chasing the scrap yard who sold me the first faulty inverter to get a refund but surprisingly he is very hard to catch on the phone these days!

If anyone needs mechanic details he is based in ballymount area and pm for his contact details.

(sorry Biko, updated the other thread where i was looking for an inverter, forgot about this one).

And another quick update. Car is still going great guns. No further issues, almost two further years of commuting done and it's still going strong. Needs a look at a rattle in the front passenger side suspension, but other than that and the snatchy brakes at full charge its still serving us well. Heading for 100k km and battery around 83%. Happiness is cheap motoring!
