Hi cnlbel! Congratulations! Is this your first?

We just found out we're expecting in December. This will be our 4th, but our third is almost 5 so we're a bit out of practice with little babies. I'm due on the 19th/20th, which has me worried as my last two were each born 5 days after their due dates

yep its my first so im totally overwhelmed and terrified!!! You must be a dab hand at this pregnancy thing now!!!

Well, at least I know what's coming, I suppose! I'm worrying about my age this time though. Was in my 20s with all my others and in my 30s now. So not old yet but older.

The first time is so exciting! I remember getting butterflies in my tummy whenever I'd think about it - thought the baby would turn out to be an adrenaline junkie or something.

I know cant believe im pregnant as it was our first month trying. I guess christmas will be a bit different this year. Don't really have many symptoms yet except stretching/cramping. Has anyone got morning sickness yet ??

4 weeks gone, first time, got pregnant very quick after coming of 12 years on birth control, we thought it would take much longer. Due Dec 30th, not many symptoms so far other than feeling some stretching. when do people go for their first Gp visit?

    Hi Everyone!

I did a test Friday and I’m due around 24th December.

I have a 5 year old boy, this is my 4th Pregnancy.
I’m so nervous and anxious, and scared to be somewhat excited.
The only symptoms I have at the minute are boobs are sore and have an awful thirst.
I rang my doctors office Friday and I can’t get an apt for 2 weeks !!

I have been taking folic acid since xmas.
I’m so glad this thread has started, I joined a Facebook group that was created in America. They are all announcing the pregnancies this weekend. I can’t even think about that until I get a scan!

    How is everyone feeling ??

I feel hungover most mornings which goes after I eat and then in afternoon I'm wrecked and v nauseous. Hoping after 12 weeks it goes. 😑

My wife and I are expecting our first in December.
We're not too sure on dates as cycle was messed up last month.
Pregnancy and blood tests confirm the pregnancy but we had an early scan that showed an empty sac. Think Midwife was 50/50 on viability and we may just be earlier in the pregnancy than we thought. Rescan due next Friday which will confirm one way or another. We're both feeling quite nervous about it.

Well fingers crossed for Friday. Dont think there is much to see before 7/8 weeks so hopefully Friday brings good news!!!

Hi everyone! Congratulations all around! Looks like there'll be lots of special deliveries this Christmas!

I'm 5.5 weeks and the morning sickness has started for me. Not too bad yet but if I don't eat regularly I start retching. My oldest is 8 and no fool so I'm not sure she'll believe 'it's a bit of a bug' for another 6 or 7 weeks. When do people usually tell the older kids? Mine were too young to notice anything last time.

Had my first GP appointment last week. All good. The doctor made sure to tell me I can have the odd drink, which I appreciated. I got a referral to the hospital in Galway. First time having a baby here - anybody any experience?

Went for an early scan today. Tiny little dot but heartbeat visible. Was v strange. Glad I did it for a bit of reassurance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭eldamo

My wife sent me a picture of the positive test this morning when I was on the train to work.

Have been trying for 3-4 months, but we barely had the opportunity this month as everyone in the house had sniffles.

So quite surprised that it has happened already.

31st December by her. This is number 3.

Can't get to the GP to confirm until monday.

It is going to be a long weekend.

    Good luck everyone.

Ah I’d say that was nice to see, how far along are you? I just booked an early scan, I’ll be 7 weeks exactly, don’t think I’ll really believe this til I see a heartbeat

That sounds lovely! Hope you don’t mind me asking, but is it an internal scan at this stage or can they do abdominal?

No was just abdominal. I thought it might be internal but no. She found it v quickly so maybe if she had struggled to find it should would have gone internal

Hi all! Just found out this morning that I'm pregnant with number 2, I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow! Due 27th December. So excited after 18 months trying!

So, had our early scan today, and thankfully we have a little peanut with a beating heart and everything as it should be so far. Very relieved and excited.
6+6. We're looking at mid December.

Cant believe I am here , was feeling exhausted etc made gp appointment for Monday thinking I need my usual vitamin b12 injections, decided to do a test almost dropped ,then done a clearblue and shows as 3+ , very confused on dates had lmp 3rd March also thought the 1st April but I think now it was implantation bleed{1day}, which would leave me almost 8 weeks should I mention 2 other children and a 20week old baby , loads of nausea and just booked a dating scan for 2weeks , not sure how I feel yet , vitamins making me so sick

    Hi ladies,

    Congrats to you all.
I found out 2 weeks ago that I am pregnant. I am now 8 weeks pregnant.
It will be my first, but I am 37. I'm wondering how old you guys are. Am I the oldest here?
I seem to have gotten away scott free with regards morning sickness and mood swings.
I'm trepidatiously excited but really nervous. Eventhough I'm on week 8, I don't feel pregnant at all. Has anyone else experienced this?

My wife is 37, will be 38 before baba 3 arrives.
For some reason as it is her third she feels like she is showing already.

    Congrats and best of luck!

Hi everyone , just read through all the posts here and it’s a great resource to see I’m not alone with all of the symptoms! We found out two weeks ago that I’m pregnant from a home test and am about 7 weeks going by my lmp. We’re over the moon and looking forward to a Christmas baby all going well. Going to the GP today. This is our first baby so it’s all new to me. Do most people get early scans and are they recommended? How does it work with the hospital, do you ask your GP to refer you to a specific hospital and then you decide on the consultant yourself ?
Thanks and apologies if they seem like stupid questions!

My understanding is that early scans generally are only for when there's an underlying risk (e.g. History of miscarriages) or where there are concerning symptoms such as bleeding or unusual pain. People don't tend to be referred for early scan in the absence of those kind of reasons, but you can book privately if it is something you wish to do in the absence of those mentioned risks /symptoms

Ps congrats and best wishes in your pregnancy

I went back to work today after being off on annual leave: the first person I bumped to said loudly, wow your glowing, something to tell us???

I’m 6+2 how will I stay quiet for 6 weeks????

How is everyone getting on? I'm nauseous and exhausted. Fed up of it by now, really. But, I took at least 4 naps over the long weekend, so that was good! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 Mini15

So so tired, two naps today and a lot of nausea on and off but no vomiting so far thankfully, early scan tomorrow so praying that everything is ok

Feel so tired this weekend. Only 4 day week though so shouldn't complain. My nausea seems to be going but keep getting headaches but consultant said this was normal and just to stay hydrated. Really looking forward to hitting g 12 weeks

Lads I'm getting worried when I read all your posts about being knackered. I don't feel pregnant at all and I'm nearly 9 weeks. I'm not really showing. I'm not nauseous. I'm not tired. No headaches. No cravings. I'm not anything. I did 2 tests and the doctor did one too but I super don't feel pregnant. Anyone else?

I wouldn't stress at all! Everyone is different. I went for scan at 7 weeks to reasure myself. Might be no harm doing it so you can relax?

I understand why you're worried but it sounds like you're just one of the lucky few who don't suffer much in the first trimester. No harm in calling your GP or early pregnancy unit for a bit of reassurance, though. Or getting an early scan like cnlbel suggested.

After sending that I actually felt fierce queasy at lunchtime and I am currently knackered. Maybe all is ok after all! Yay :|

Ridiculously tired here too, it's overwhelming! Was more nauseous last week than the last couple of days but it still hits me every so often. Think I'll book an early scan for next week. Have ye told anyone the news yet or still keeping it between yourselves and your other halves??

After early scan I felt more comfortable telling people. Just family and close friends. Hard to keep the charade up with the tiredness and nausea!

Haven’t told anyone else yet, I’d rather wait til we are passed the 12 week mark, had early scan today, so delighted to see little fluttering heartbeat, if my symptoms go away for a few hours I worry that something is wrong ðŸ˜

We haven’t told anyone yet. Think my family are suspicious, especially my mum. Feels like our kids should be first to hear but I know that as soon as we tell them it’ll be public knowledge and I’m not ready for that yet.

My wife almost told her mother out of spite yesterday.
They were shopping together and her mum kept going on about how she was right to only have two and sure there was no point in trying again at her age. Had her really wound up!

I feel like that too if my symptoms go away...I think because I had time to rest over the long weekend I was feeling a lot better but then was afraid it meant something had gone wrong. Symptoms are back with a bang today though... it's very odd to find nausea reassuring!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 LittleMissLogic

Ok I do need some inspiration. I have 2 older sisters, both of whom have 3 kids each. They are almost more excited than me about this pregnancy, which is so sweet. One sister has smallies but the other has 16/13/10 and I told her that I wound find an inventive way of telling them. But I am drawing a blank. Do you guys have any cute ideas for how you told people?

9 weeks today. I've taken to carrying sleeves of crackers and jaffa cakes in my handbag to nibble on when the nausea gets bad. Can't make it through the day without a nap now either.

Got the date for my first hospital appointment and scan. This is my first time going the regular public route (previously did Domino in Holles St. and loved it). The letter said to leave 3-4 hours for the first appointment - that's mad! I really hope all the appointments won't be like that.

@LittleMissLogic I don't have any good ideas for cute ways to tell kids. I'm interested to see what you decide on though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 LittleMissLogic

I guess I'm feeling fierce lucky so that I'm not getting nausea or extreme tiredness. Except for the extreme tiredness that comes from being 37 :D

I am getting savage cramps though. Anyone else?

Also - most people say when you ask them for a preference say that they don't care if it's a girl or a boy. What do you guys think? Is it bad to say I'd much prefer a girl!?

I think it's normal to have a preference but you'll be happy with the baby you get. I always thought I'd be sad if I didn't have a daughter. My first was a girl so I was delighted. Then when I was pregnant with my second I really wanted another girl. I had this idea it would be so nice for my first to have a sister close in age. I had a boy. I was delighted again. I couldn't believe I'd ever wanted anything else.
