This is the biggest dip in this bull run

Jan 11th was a good bit bigger. Good buying day regardless.

This is turning into a proper dip

BTC & ETH are well off their lows at this stage. Let's see if it holds.

1.5m sats @ $48.1k added to the wallet. Days like this that have been my best friend over the last few years.

Looking at the one hour chart, I'm thinking you might be a financial genius.

I don’t think a financial genius would have bought at 55k and 52k today also! Average is ok though.

I can honestly say that after 6 years of being in and out of crypto this was the first dip I felt confident in buying as it fell.

Dunphy's podcast last week had Chris Johns of The Irish Times talking about BTC. For a financial journalist, ex Bank of Ireland, he seemed surprisingly ignorant of crypto and BTC. Brought up the tulip comparison, dollar vs BTC, and energy costs..

The Irish financial system and those in it are still in the 1950's, aproximately, I'd say. Such ignorance shouldn't surprise when you have to physically walk a cheque from one bank to another in order to move a largish amount.

I came across this elsewhere and thought it so interesting I'd share:
A window into the mindset of Gen Alpha (children born after 2010) and the rise of the digital natives.

Like many SE Asian families we celebrated Lunar New Year a couple of weeks ago and my kids received many red packets of money from the extended family. Since they are both under 10 they are allowed to keep $50 to spend at the shops and the rest goes into savings.

This year after we divided up the money my 9yo daughter asked me "Why is this yellow money so boring. Can't I save this in that Doggy Money everyone keeps talking about?".
Slightly amused, I bought her $10 worth of Dogecoin (hey Elon's doing it for his kids) and puts the rest in the real bank and thought nothing more of it.

At the weekend kiddy sports I was relaying this story to the other parents and was shocked to find out that at least 2 other dads had been asked the same thing and apparently the kids are all talking about this at school.

This is a generation that's been playing Minecraft/Roblox since age 6/7 so will learn about money via digital internet currency well before they will ever be trusted with a credit card/bank account.

You wonder how this will shape their attitudes towards money and investment in the future.

    Food for though...

    :D

Good point. It was funny. Dunphy, pseudo intellectual that he is, had actually more of an open mind on the subject; a mate of his had told him of the gains he had made. Johns was much more close minded. But Dunphy as is his wont didn't challenge any of the misconceptions spouted by Johns, also down to ignorance however on Dunphy's part.

I just bought my first coins on kraken. Very happy and have no plans on selling for years and years.

But I honestly dont know where my coins are!
I printed off the ledger entry straight after buying and can see them all in the "balances" homepage of kraken.

How and where should I move them to? I honestly have no idea.

p.s. I bought €100 each of LTC, ETH, XLM, UNI, LINK, ADA and TRX

Is there any watchouts for using coinbase?

For any long-term holding over €500 I'd honestly buy a hardware wallet. I'd recommend a Ledger if possible as the Trezor is hackable with physical access. The Ledger Nano S is like €60 and is actually a lovely little bit of hardware, and brings your risk of being scammed or losing your coins down to about 0.

Otherwise, and this might be a bit of a controversial statement, but you're at more risk losing your money to a scam on a software wallet than leaving it on the Kraken exchange if you're not really interested in properly securing yourself browser and malware wise. I've been on them years and they've never been hacked. Hard to hack them when they go down at the first sign of any volume tbf :D

Their fees are disgraceful. Binance a better option and you can deposit fiat via SEPA.

will have a look.. yea the fee was nearly 50 euro just to deposit when i looked!! i signed up to kraken as well but cant see how i can deposit there....

also, is it easy to withdraw back to your account? for example, you double your money in 2 months, is it easy to withdraw initial investment?

Once you're registered with Kraken and have your KYC stuff sorted, just use that for depositing and withdrawing to fiat and use binance for anything you can't get on kraken. Kraken v.simple to withdraw/deposit money via SEPA.

I would have a bit more than €500 worth and would disagree as to the need for a hardware wallet.

Be careful of holding Ethereum on Binance.

They suspended withdrawals of Ethereum earlier today and did the same last week.

You might not be able to withdraw if you need to

I went ahead and just asked them about being able to diversify some of my crypto holdings into investments around sustainability/tech

    https://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2058162557

    should be interesting

Lol, get ready to be disappointed :D

Fair enough, peoples risk profiles are different. I'm holding 5 years+ on hardware wallet and have heard/seen plenty of absolute horror stories to make me happy to recommend them to anyone who doesn't have a lot of tech acumen. You probably know how to secure your stuff. For others, €60 is not much vs the time-sink of researching and keeping up to date with vulnerabilities. YMMV.

Is there a need to set up a wallet with coinbase or can purchases just be left there without issue?

They will probably tell you to wait until 2026, when the lockdown will be eased a bit, and offer to make an appointment for you with one of their financial advisors who will be better placed to answer your questions.

Jumping between 14-21 at the moment, some gains to be made if you can get in a trade request. Server throwing up errors
Fecks sake if I'd seen that I would have been in but I work in a cleanroom, no phones allowed.
