Been following Doge for over 5 years now, I wouldn't say it's a front-runner, but any alt's that jump in a bull, and then do it a second time are not exactly a bad omen. Especially when it's a non-Defi coin. A few others are also moving in the last 24 hours - if that can get to a critical mass at some point, and nothing bad happens, then we could get some sort of full alt run (a la 2017). Especially if BTC and Eth "chill out" (no one wants to buy alts when the 2nd cap coin, Eth, is actually outperforming most of them)

Usual disclaimer, could all go down.

People have just seen with Gamestop and the rest that when the bubble in equities pops that the brokers will be ordered to lock them out of selling their shares while the elites are allowed to settle their positions in comfort, I said it in the other thread that even 72 hours ago this would have been unthinkable in shares, we already saw it happen with cash in the bank during the last crisis. This bodes very well for Crypto this year.

Was literally coming on to the thread to ask if this GameStop thing is good or bad for crypto.

Not sure what effect Gamestop will have on crypto, I feel it's much more specific to stocks and a "**** you" to hedge funds.

However the style is identical to crypto, everyone screeching to "HoDL" to everyone else while the smart people cash out.

Sold out my GME position and lobbed it into Bitcoin. Didn’t catch the full wave like some of the “aut*sts” on Reddit but that was some craic.

A great case for decentralisation with the whole Robinhood & Discord fiasco.

The difference with the call for Hodl with GME is that the hedge fund shorters HAVE to settle their calls, which means buying shares at whatever the price is on the settlement date, which in turn pumps the price even higher.

What has happened today in relation to these shares and how trading was manipulated is a disgrace and their will be huge investigations into in. RobinHood are owned by Citadel, it's clear market manipulation.

Interactive Broker says regulators were involved in the decision to block trading. If true I wouldn’t expect much from any inquiry.

It looks like to me what we just witnessed is massive manipulation to cover the a** of some big players, with full blessing (an possibly a request) from the regulators.

On the crypto side - this is one arguments for blockchain which are running 24/7 and whereby it would be much more difficult for colluding regulators and large players to stop transactions.

It's quite unlikely there was any sort collusion from regulators. They have to do their job regardless of populist sentiment.

Keep in mind everyone knows there is nothing organic or natural about an online community suddenly, spontaneously and "coincidentally" all buying exactly the same stock, at the same time. Even if it's done to "stick it to the man", yes it's entertaining to watch all this unfold, and watching greedy hedge funds sweat, but no one should be under any illusions here.

Well done for giving your stock to the hedge funds who were the only ones buying.

This won't be the end, GME is going to be bought up in droves after this :D

Is Ethereum a good/safe long term investment? I bought 1 a few weeks ago just wondering people's sentiments, seems to be steadily climbing?

But surely you don't actually want to be left holding these at some point? I'm guessing no-one genuinely believe they're worth anything close to the current price surely.

Maddest thing I've ever seen tbh. Not sure the '08 crisis caught the imagination and highlighted the levels of basic greed/corruption/reckless gambling that seems to underpin a huge part of these hedge funds as much as this tbh. Managers all over the news channels trying to demonstrate how valuable they are and all the good they do, hopefully no-one's buying it imo.

Also saw someone say that Robinhood is basically a scam. It's free in the way google is - the product is you. It gives them a massive peek at the current orders for a substantial portion of the market now and then they use high frequency trading to make plays depending on that. Sounds highly probable to me, but I'm getting more cynical by the day at this stage :)

What's the easiest way to buy Dogecoin, not on coinbase or wirex?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭Bodjhrjekekr

Why are you buying it at ATH on a vertical line, if I may ask? Sounds dangerous.

Picked up Doge at 4pm and just sold. Only did it for the craic. This market is not sane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭rapul

Not sane is an under statement!
Good you took profit though, madness out there.

I love the $1 memes but then the market cap puts an end to that.
