    Last year's thread

Fastest half in the country by all accounts

Entry opened today, and I'm in - still haven't figured out how to get to rural Cork on a Sunday morning though :pac:

The journey is simple as it is on the border so closer to Limerick, you actually run most of it in Limerick.

I wouldn't fancy a journey down on the morning but others have done. The Charleville Hotel last year was great. If you're not staying you can pay €5 and swim and shower there afterwards, lovely.

    It's a great race.

Off the motorway at Cork exit and head towards Mallow then onto Charleville. No hassle. Long enough drive tho

Just booked a room at charleville Hotel, make a weekend of it with family

Shall sign up for it this week. Be good to have a flat half for a change

Ah crap, I was planning to have this as my big goal race for the year but now I realise I'm going to be at a wedding abroad. Is it wrong that I'd far rather do the race?? :(

Unless it's your own wedding running comes first! :D

It's the flattest half marathon I've done with a really strong field. Definite PB course.

I'm hoping to get down to it. Looking forward to it big time.

Tullamore half at end of August is a good race. Not as flat though

Good man Ray. Thanks for that. Not too pushed about flat to be honest. Just a good solid HM effort. Also considering a 10M around that timeframe as an alternative to a HM so maybe Kilcock. Would probably manage Dingle but it's sold out.

I think there's a flat/fast half in Longford at the end of August also?

A friend of mine mentioned that but it would take a very special race for me to take myself all the way to Longford

Trust me there’s NOTHING special in Longford, not even a half marathon!!

That is one race that doesn't have much to offer

Oh, I've never done it and it looked like a fun run to do - just for the atmosphere

Would you consider Charleville or Bohermeen to be faster?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,845 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

How are people set for this?

Not great tbh....Achilles have flared up again and are taking ages to settle down.

Would be delighted to run Charleville ~90mins and pain free

For me there is question marks over if I can get under 1:40. But will give it a lash

Looking forward to this on sunday. Now do decide what my aim is for it, Do i Race it hard but not sure how it will impact my DCM Training, Or should i just race it comfortably. I would love to go for a PB as it is the course to do it, I got my current PB there last year.

Weather is look good so far. Will be aiming to run with the 1:30 group myself & see what happens. If all goes ok then will be a nice confidence boost for Berlin two weeks later, if not.....
