Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Leaving it very late to announce anything . Strange set up considering they are aiming at families ??

If I was to guess id say the line up will mainly be the more family friendly acts from the Glasto lineup who are yet to play Ireland this year like The Killers, Kylie, Snow Patrol, Mikey Cyrus etc.

Killers are playing Belsonic , Snow Patrol doing Dublin and Belfast already. Kylie is a good bet tho

    Killers are playing Belsonic

Which I think probably makes them more likely to do this too

Am I right in saying this fest is 8000 cap? was that mentioned.

If so Killers are way too big.

I wouldnt expect it to be the Killers, as you say, too big. I reckon the headliners will be of the Beatyard/ Groove festival level.

The Killers and Kylie Minogue headlining some tiny new fest that we know nothing about :pac: gotta love boards!

I wouldn't rule Kylie out, Leo would easily sell our souls for a few minutes with her.

God bless you Paddy, you're an optimistic soul. I think you need to lower the bar by several notches there. Although Mikey Cyrus might be a possibility.

So what's the lineup for this.

So what's the lineup for this.

I was told it would be this week, not looking likely now. Leaving it till two months before the festival to announce lineup and ticket prices is a dangerous game. I hope they know what they are doing. It will either have to be a kick ass lineup up or cheap as chips ticket prices to sell it out at this stage.

Could still be tomorrow I guess

Even then, I'd have my doubts now. It's clearly being aimed at families with kids and I'd say the vast majority of people with kids who are planning holidays for the summer already have them planned.

If this was a first time organiser, you'd have your doubts about the professionalism of it but for Festival Republic to be so casual and late is very surprising.

At a guess, I'd say they're not expecting a lot from this year and, instead, are focused on establishing the brand so that it's top of the list for people next year. But even at that, you'd imagine the line up was at least partly finalised months ago so to have no info at all is still very strange.

At this point you'd have to expect a very bargain basement lineup, with a tiny capacity, and a lot of day tickets.

It must be Monday surely for this announcement now.

Has it announced anything yet? I won't be going with way but curious what line up will be

I'm also curious to see how it will pan out. Brought the kids to ATN last year and would definitely be on for this but we have a wedding the same weekend this year. Have to say I agree with other posters that it seems a bit shambolic to have no details but the name and date out at this stage.

They posted on Facebook 2 days ago that the Lineup was coming VERY soon (Their capitalisation not mine)

2 months to sell a festival? they are braver souls than me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,137 ✭✭✭endainoz

It'll be an interesting feat if they manage it, still though capacity isn't huge, could throw a couple reasonably popular Irish acts and one or two 80s type heritage acts and I reckon they would still have a good chance. Organization of this has been poor so far though. If they pull it off it'll be impressive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,331 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Wouldn't worry about the time to show a good enough act will sell it out straight away. There's a little bit of spontaneous to it, kind like that in this premeditated world.

A cursory look through who is playing festivals in the UK around the end of June gives a list of possibilities for this festival.

    Feeder
    Texas
    Keane
    Black Eyed Peas
    Josh Groban
    Bryan Ferry
    Tears For Fears
    Mavericks
    Billy Ocean
    Belinda Carlisle
    Kate Nash
    Kooks
    Paul Weller
    Busted
    Billy Bragg
    Anne Marie
    Fatboy Slim
    Fontaines DC
    Janet Jackson
    Kylie
    Lauren Hill
    Lionel Richie
    Orbital
    Sheryl Crow

As its an unknown quantity, its highly probable that none of the above will appear, but I would say quite a few of these acts are within the paygrade of this festival, possible exceptions Kylie and Janet.

I predict EZ Feelin and the Joe Dolan experience.

Would it be a musc festival lineup like the others though, maybe it will be celebrities that appeal to kids, if this is a fully fledged kids festival, we might be talking about boy bands and x factor type stuff, perhaps festival guests like child show presenters and the like. It certainly doesn't seem to be acting like the way of other festivals, more noticeable with its lack of announcements. This leads me to think its a different kind of billing altogether that doesn't require the urgency of all the other types of festivals.

^^agreed. I'll be surprised if there's anyone on the music lineup that most of this forum would care about. I'm expecting someone on the level of Dermot Kennedy or whoever the new budget version of Picture This is, or maybe a pop-y act like Anne-Marie mentioned above.
Everything points more to it being a family fun day out, not a music festival.
Weather will probably make or break it, a sunny weekend and probably loads of last minute day tickets being bought.

If there is only kids' stuff, whats in it for the adults? No self respecting parent is going to take a weekend out of their (summer) life, lash out a couple of hundred quid to camp with their kids and watch their kids do kids stuff. I can't imagine many going to that.

IIRC it is pitching itself as a family festival rather than a kid's festival. You have to have stuff for all the family not just kids.

There could be audio visual stuff, science fairs, talks, all sorts of stuff as well, its obviously geared toward the start of the school holidays and you know, some parents live for their kids and love that kind of involvement too, like an extended Soul Kids festival. Sure you know yourself Pablo there's plenty of choice already out there, so maybe Kaleidoscope is aiming the other way, I don't know. I can imagine it closing at 10.30 - 11 PM unless there is the adult selection for the early hours.

If someone in my work place said "I will have that deliverable very soon", they would get a very "what are you talking about?" look.

Very soon means "I don't know exactly when, I am still working on it"

Do you have kids? I am a self respecting parent and I would happily go camping with my kids at something like this. The camping is the bit they would be most excited about tbh. However I dont think it's gonna be 100% kids stuff. It'll prob be more of a 50:50 split unlike standard festivals which are 90:10 in favour of adult entertainment.

I do have a child. My point was you need something for the adults also, which I also suspect they will have. Maybe I didn't make myself clear.

If the camping is what they are excited about, why not just do that instead of paying €200+ Per person for the privilege

That way you and the OH can use the savings to go to electric picnic or ATN!

Tbf though, the early bird ticket of €105 for a family of 4 is not that bad. Wouldn't be a million miles away from the cost of paying into a regular pitched camping site for the weekend.
