Donegal well on top, we're struggling to get any decent posession. Coldrick giving us absolutely nothing.

Another cracker of a goal for James Carr!:D

And 20 minutes later they finally score again.

Pretty poor stuff so far. We're lucky Donegal's shooting is so bad today. Hardly any possession, not getting anything into the forwards.

We are blessed to be only 2 points down
Another game where Horans defensive set up is questionable at best

Restarts absolutely not working yet again

Much better now the team set up has been changed
Middle sector was non existent first half
    Ball kept coming back

    Mcloughlin taking frees
    We/Horan just refuse to learn
He might have kicked it but that’s not the point

Getting anything out of this would be huge
The dubs might need a win next weekend yet

    That’s it
We are in trouble given the way the fixtures are unless we beat the dubs

Get in !!! What a goal. And a point gained. Donegal will be sick.

We played pure scutter for most of the match and didn't deserve anything from that.

Daylight robbery on the balance of play. Durcan made some impact from the bench. 1-3

Haha we'll take it. Hon Mayo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,463 ✭✭✭✭km79

Be great if James could kick in like his brother
    He has serious pace anyway

That’s prob the end of Conor Loftus .....

Haha talk about absolute robbery! Don't think there'd have been many complaints if Donegal won that by 6 or 7

Won't be getting anything next week no matter how much luck is on our side so will still need to beat Monaghan and Meath to stay up - can't see a win in any other game tbh. Will need lots of improvement. Some horrendous performances out there this evening.

At least Conroy looked very lively and durcan did well when he came in too.
In fairness were clinical enough with the chances we did create

We were rubbish and didn't deserve the draw tbh. We were only in a position to draw because of Donegal's terrible shooting in the first half. Could see Dublin and Kerry making a show of us in McHale Park.

    Great point.

Absolute daylight robbery but nonetheless plenty to be positive about.

Diarmuid is some place taker. As sweet a striker of the ball as I've seen in a while.Where has he been hiding away?

Tommy Conroy's debut shows his great potential.Fergal Boland yet again stood up when we were faltering whilst on the pitch.Well done to Oisin Mullin.

    Spectacular two goals.

Now to enjoy some Ballybofey hospitality.

    Michael Murphy is simply imperious.

Ye picked our pocket, but fair dues ye stuck in there. We were a bit lacking in the physical stakes and 1st half shooting was poor.
Michael Murphy is something else alright.
Enjoy Ballybofey. Should be a bit of crack around Heaney`s

Thought Padraig O Hora stood out tonight. Serious pace and strength. Never gave up in the tackle.

I was right behind the mayo bench. James horan was very agitated about the lack of movement in the forward line when mayo had the ball in defence.

James carr received alot of advice from the bench.

Watched the match back and it reconfirmed some of my match day observations.

Both of our goalkeepers have an issue with their kickouts.David Clarke in general is very good on the short kickouts but in the first half his weakness on the long kickouts was noticeable.

He is very slow in the his restarts in comparison to Cluxton/his heir apparent Comerford.

The contrast was evident in the brilliance of Patten's who is a great exponent of this skill.I believe Beggan was pinging them out today too.

Relating to the kickouts we struggled to get a foothold in the middle in the first half.An understandably tough half for Tom Parsons on his comeback trail.IMO Michael Murphy semi bullied him.Aidan O Shea introduction made quite a difference.Quite a contribution given he's only back from travels.

There seemed in the first half somewhat of an emphasis on availing of the advanced mark but the deliveries were made in no more than 50 50 contests.

IMO Brian Reape was unlucky to be called ashore at the break.

My expectations of Tommy Conroy could not be any higher,he's the sort of natural forward talent we've been crying out for.He reminds me so much of Barry John Keane.

Super contribution from James Durcan, competition is hopefully hotting up in the mayo panel.

    Can anybody explain Eoin O Donoghue's absence?

    Is he injured?

Matthew Ruane is likely out for the league post his operation mid week.

The wonderful prospect that is Ethan Henry is taking a year out as he does his leaving certificate.

Huge ask to get anything next Saturday.

The quality on display in Croker was top notch.Fenton is like a maturing wine. His first half display was superb and the orchestrator that is Ciaran Kilkenny came to the fore with some clutch moments in an excellent final 15 minutes.

Struggling to explain the Eoin O'Donoghue absence myself. Get the impression Horan doesn't fancy him for whatever reason.

Disappointing news about Mattie Ruane. I really felt that he needed game time this league after missing so much of the championship last year. He was showing great potential in last year's league, but it needs to be pushed on now.

Tommy Conroy has a great deal of pace. Very young, I'm told? Only 19? A lot of potential there, would like to see more of him over the league but probably a bit early for him yet championship-wise.

James Durcan is one that I've often wondered about and why he never seemed to get a breakthrough in the same way Paddy did. He was very ballsy the other night and showed great initiative to take things by the scruff of the neck. Would like to see more. He has a similar physique to Paddy, which is a plus, we need strong men.

Tom Parsons unfortunately seemed to struggle while he was on. It's early days yet for him, but question mark over whether he can fully get back to where he was before the injury.

Who knew Diarmuid O'Connor had such a lovely style from placed balls?

I also think we will struggle next weekend. Could even be a bad beating. Our kickout strategy badly needs to be looked at and it's a bit disappointing that little seems to have been done there.

Would also add, Jordan Flynn seemed to struggle to impose himself on the game in the middle, but I still think there's plenty of potential there, especially when he goes forward a bit more.

Am I looking back with rose tinted glasses or did Rochford always seem to have a plan/ strategy that worked with Clarke's kickout abilities. Especially in the three finals?
I get the feeling Clarke is kicking into a strategy that doesn't compensate for his kicking styles?

Remember Rochford was about to take Clarke off in 2016 final and replaced him for the replay with disastrous consequences, so he didn't have the answer either :(

I think the answer is neither of them personally. But I don't remember anything as bad as that first half on Saturday from a kickouts point of view under Rochford
