I suspect you are correct …being terrain with oncoming car going downhill to begin with. To function the lights detect the intensity of oncoming lighting (vehicles) and adjust accordingly. At times also flashing can be related to the expectation from other driver that lights should be dipped in a binary way, either on or off, whereas with the matrix they adjust and dim and often just the right light whilst maintaining the left to illuminate the road, as it is not directed to oncoming traffic. If the other car does not see both lights noticeably being dipped it can trigger that response. In general it is amazingly clever functionality …most of the time.

Hardly an issue to log a service issue as there will be little data related to the incident and to presume an error or fault is a stretch. Also I suspect that there will be margins of error as these are dynamic with the intelligence factoring in all data to tailor its adjustments. The fact that when the oncoming driver flashed that it triggered an adjustment woudl be expected as the car detects a much higher intensity of oncoming light. I honestly feel that Tesla Service team have greater things to focus on and prioritise.

That is a good point. The driver could have perceived my lights to have not adjusted. Maybe they did actually adjust and the flash caused it to adjust even more. After the flash the whole area turned dark. So it's possible it had actually adjusted originally, but on detecting the flash it did the courteous thing and blackened the area compeltely.

Very smart indeed, if that is what happened.

The auto lights on all cars is hit and miss. In my MG there was a small delay between sensing the incoming car and dipping the lights. It was enough to get flashed, You could manually dip them too. But the amount of times I'd get flashed , panic, reach to press to manually dip them, but got there a fraction of a second after they dipped, so I actually ended up turning then back on to full beams was ridiculous 😂.

I'd get flashed then I'd end up flashing them back and putting on the full beams. I can only image what people were thinking 😂

All cars is probably unfair. I’ve driven a few Audi models with this feature and never had an issue. Most have been matrix led headlights.

Interesting there is no centre console front and 2nd row. Looks like its specifically designed for robotaxi, which would make sense.

Rear could be like the 6 seater pics MX. Nothing in the centre. I suspect the front will have a centre console alright.

Hi any recommendations for Tesla tyres in dublin please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,231 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

nothing special about tesla tyres, just get a premium tyre in the size you need.

I read that range tests are done on the stock tyres. Personally i'll be sticking with the same when the time comes.

The saying buy cheap, buy twice is true in my experience.

And they are also done using the original wheel trims. Theres still nothing wrong with fitting aftermarket trims, or fitting other premium branded tyres

Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 or Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are the TO (oem) choices - depending on the precise model you have.

About 850-900 for the Hankooks in 19" size and a little more for the Michelins.

Obviously more again for 20" or 21" rims.

Whatever you do, don't go to Tesla for tyres.

Went to.atlas for a price. Hankok were 335 per tyre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,994 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

I should have added….avoid Atlas, Kwik-fit, Fast-fit or any of those nonsense chains. Let us know where you are and I'm sure there will be brilliant local recommendations.

Also….don't get suckered into buying the "EV" version of the tyre. Makes absolutely no difference, but sticks up to a ton on each corner.

The "regular" Hankooks will also give you 45-50k kms per set.

Do Atlas fit tyres they didn’t supply? Didn’t expect that.

I still struggle to find these unicorn 15 euro a corner places.

My local place - which comes highly recommended across the board - Discount Tyres in Blanchardstown - is E35 a corner and they work only with Oponeo and no others (including rolling in with tyres in your van etc).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 611 ✭✭✭Foreign Sports

I found discount tyres to be cheap for buying but they were very careless in fitting and took lumps out of wheel bolt areas when fitting the wheels.

The wheels were diamond cut and unmarked beforehand.

Very disappointing service so I never went back. This was about 6 or 7 years ago

I might be mis-remembering, but I'm pretty sure it was around €15 per corner, including disposal. If I find the last invoice from them, I'll confirm, but I am certain it was nowhere near €35 per corner.

Had a car drive into the back of me at about 40kph. The rear bumper, and tailgate are damaged.

Who are the go to place for inspection / repair? I’m worried there could be more structural damage not visible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,788 ✭✭✭✭josip

If it was 40kph at the point of impact I'd expect a lot more damage than to the bumper and tailgate.

Did the airbags in the car behind you deploy? 25-30kph is usually the trigger speed for them.

possibly it was closer to 30kph but they made no attempt to brake, seemed to be looking down. Their car is pretty much a write off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 161 ✭✭KLF

Could get there in an hour or so. The car isn’t showing any errors luckily. Do they take in crashed cars and work with insurance companies?

For body work they will farm the work out to Ace Autobody (their approved bodyshop), I would recommend working with them directly than Tesla from my own experience with Tesla crash repairs.
