    Anyone interested?

It seems most people on here are always on the look out for a new watch and lots also want to thin out a collection.

(Hopefully some well known forum regulars get behind this)

Good idea S. I would suggest when you get an idea of numbers take it to PM for safety's sake.

    Depending on location then maybe.

Forum is fairly small and spread across Ireland.

    Good idea!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭shutup

Ok the mob have (not) spoken!
I think if a forum heavyweight had suggested the idea, it may have gained more interest.
If anyone wants to take control from here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 832 ✭✭✭funkyouup

It hasnt gained interest because it really isnt feasible. You just sound paranoid.

There has been several meet ups over the years I understand; before you started posting on this forum so you may not be aware.

I think some one else recently tried; only two people could go.

You can take it personally that no one has responded to this or you can realise that it’s due to the fact that the community is small and spread country wide and further again (hdmi in the US for example). It’s a challenge to get people together.

Jesus, the lad was just suggesting something, hardly any need for the paranoid label.

It's pretty much what 893 said. We're spread all over the place, so it's hard to gather people together. Which is a pity.

If located in Dublin I'm interested.

If I can make it I will :)

I didn’t mean to sound bitter. I suppose it did look like I was complaining.
But yes I agree with the points made. I probably didn’t realise how small the community is.
Just would be a cool event to go to. It’s hard to tel from photos sometimes and I’d like to try stuff on before buying.
Maybe something will happen down the line.

I'm in Dublin, should be able to meetup and I've got a Steinhart OVM to shift. :)

Not wanting to go full Jackeen here :D but maybe work out the basic numbers that are in Dublin and take it from there?

Can a pole be added to it for location?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Also in Dublin, and might be around for one of these. Wouldn't expect to sell anything on the day, but would be happy to bring my Monaco and Sinn along, should anyone feel like trying either on.

From which to hang watches? :pac:

    The mob are speaking up!
I’m in Kildare but happy to head to Dublin.
Apart from a venue we probably need to establish if anyone is selling, swapping or hoping to buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,370 ✭✭✭Homer

In Dublin and always up for a meet up and potentially buying/selling!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,217 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

OK I slapped together a poll(which means I'll probably break the interwebs). Multiple choice.

Just a thought; maybe make it a sociable meet(with beers, white wine for the laydees, minerals for the childer) and a swap/sell thang?

EDIT let me know if the poll works folks. I am a thundering moron so... and it won't let me vote.

The poll works, I just voted for the bottom option. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,341 ✭✭✭emo72

It's always hard to do this. I'd be all up for it and then something else comes up. Like a champions League match! I would like to meet up but city centre can be a pain heading in after work and stuff. See what happens.

I just voted. It says only one person has cast their vote?!?

I'd be up for this, greater Dublin, Kildare or not too far into Meath.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 832 ✭✭✭funkyouup

Just voted and it didnt seem to count.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

I get: "Unable to process your vote"

    but yes & Dublin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 651 ✭✭✭2shea

I don't want other people touching my watches :)

I might have a few cheap Casio to off load.

Also a couple of my wife's Michael Kors watches to sell.

Sounds like a good idea fair play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 97 ✭✭hoganj

I got: "unable to process your vote" also but now I see at the top: "You have already voted on this poll". So I think my vote was counted, but I'm not 100% sure.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,217 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

Yeah, I got similar. Dunno what's going on with it. Probably me setting it up. Apparently it's foolproof, but they didn't count on me.

I'm in Kildare but would travel for an hour some evening just to look at some different watches.

    If in Dublin I'm in.
I've missed the past few meet ups for various reasons but Homer has told me they've been great fun. He told me about that one that everyone got naked and there was baby oil everywhere... sounded great.

The first rule of watchclub

Ok so all comments have mentioned Dublin. So how about wherever there was a successful meet up before? Were previous meet ups in a pub in town?

Best to take that discussion to PM.

There has been a few strange characters banned on here so less they know the better! Also no point advertising a crowd of lads with some potentially expensive piece location. You never know who is reading!

    Hope it goes well.

good advice thanks. Will wait for a bit more interest and try to lock something in

There is a good Dublin City centre location that has been used a number of times in the past and works very well I feel. Once we have any interest we can discuss via PM. A date or potential dates is probably the first thing that needs to be identified?

when and where is this i would like to attend . please pm me . . cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭A+-Guru

I would advise some sort of vetting/member sponsor for this, it only takes one bad person to to divulge the meeting location, with watches worth so much it's an easy target for the gangs to plan a theft, following peeps home etc. That's my two cents anyway

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,217 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

I agree. Basically this is for regulars of the forum who we all know. Apologies, but that's how it has to be for obvious reasons outlined above. A suggestion was put to me about not going Dublin city centre as a few members are apparently more westerly based?

So, for us fly-by-nights, how does one go about being vetted?

Before whose tent should a I appear, washed and lightly fragranced?

    :D I take bribes.

To be fair L, you're around here a fair amount. I meant people who we don't know, one post people.

Well, it's good to know you are.. malleable. :)

I'm of a westerly direction from the city too, so that would suit too.

(Was just about to post a pic of my 8500 movement beside that POS).

I would be more interested in a westerly meet.

    Athlone/Galway/limerick locationish

I'm up for it, just need a list of what watches and there valuations before I commit... I mean turn up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭fret_wimp2

I'd be up for a dublin area meet up, if there's a pm list and I'm not too much of a forum n00B, please let me know whats agreed upon.

On the Dublin front whereabouts are most people located? Central Dublin is grand an all, but maybe somewhere more suburban close to where most are might be better on a few levels.

Fair play shutup, really great to see another meet up being organised. I have been wanting to post as i would definitely like to go as i really enjoyed meeting with Homer last year, really grateful to him for showing up at short notice as i made a bit of a mess of the organising :o really nice guy with some great watches and great to chat about our interests.

I understand that it is for regular posters which is only fair and I am sorry i have not been around much(still lurking though :p), also i won't have anything to sell /swap and not looking to buy as i very happy still with my Bell-Matic. I hope all goes well.Be sure to post some pictures up.

    Thank you,

    Keith.
