Maybe for the best, would be pretty crap if he came back just in time to be called up to the November SA tour where he gets decapitated by Bundee Aki

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,242 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

Actually, just saw that Aki is out for the Springbox game following his antics at the weekend.

8 weeks is a really long ban

Delighted to see Phillips and Campbell both get a start. Two lads who have the athleticism to be impact players and deserve the game time to prove themselves. Same story for Quinn and Edogbo on the bench.

Surely strong enough to get the win this weekend. The 2 lads on the wing be tested tho, given what we've perhaps unexpectedly seen from Zebre so far.

Interesting that Healy has been given the 10 Jersey 3 games in a row. Even with JC only available for 2 of those games he is getting a decent opportunity to stake his claim for the Jersey.

And young Crowley starting for ireland today too.. the battle for the 10 Jersey In munster will be as intriguing this year at the Battle for the 22 Jersey behind sexton in Leinster.

"Kick on" is the most annoying rugby phrase at the moment.

Everyone from Dunners to Quinners to Steady Eddy is using it, and it makes me cringe every time I hear it.

Scannell is very lucky there. Looked quite certain that he dropped that ball over the try line.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,225 Mod ✭✭✭✭aloooof

Definitely didn't think that was a try for Scannell. Better stuff so far this week anyways. Conor Phillips looking very lively.

Much more cohesive today. The 2 wings look very good, good competition for wing spots by the looks of it.

Nothing to suggest Zebre have a way back into this game albeit they showed a bit more in the second half against Leinster.

Scrappy rnough game since the 3rd try. We've entirely dismantled their lineout but our own needs to be better.

  • Registered Users Posts: 106 ✭✭homecouldbhere

    Zebre unlucky with their injuries.

That said munster defence looks pretty sharp.

Scannell's first try shouldn't have counted. But ref called grounding before tmo, so tmo's hands were tied.

14-0 would be a fairer reflection of the game.

Zebre are being so braindead. Lose 4-5 lineouts in a row. Get a penalty and kick it down the line again. Insanity is making the same mistakes and expecting a different result.

Munster looking better this week but still a lot of unenforced errors.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,242 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

It's hard to know how much of this is an improved Munster performance or a struggling zebre.

Their lineout is as bad as any I've ever seen, but are they just trying to cope with POM being unplayable in the set piece?

There have been a few handling errors but a big improvement over last week

No idea why Healy left that ball bounce. Brainless decision

  • Registered Users Posts: 106 ✭✭homecouldbhere

Nothing points at Munster's standard of play over the last decade than this stat:

Today is Stephen Archer's 250th appearance in a Munster Jersey.

How the Holey fcuk did that happen.

This second half is bloody awful.

    Ruadhán Quinn, f*cking hell

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,919 ✭✭✭OldRio

18 year old Ruadhan Quinn on for Munster. Good luck to the young man.

    O'Mahony very lucky there.

    Grabbed your man's throat.

May even be cited. I thought it was a red.

Both Scannel’s, Archer, Carbery Loughman, Goggin, just a waste of match time at this stage. This season is a transition and it’s obvious it’s not not going to be pretty but once the emerging Ireland tour is over give the younger players a good run and only use the older/underperforming players for bench/injury cover. We look seriously underpowered in terms of ball carriers. Hope it improves but at the moment it’s dire.

Carbery needs to be dropped. They should have left Healy on for the full 80

Murray brought absolutely nothing to the game except pointing at balls in rucks and slower distribution

Scrappy and error strewn second half, and completely stop start. Disappointing not to get the bonus point given where we were at HT, but a better first half at least.

Some cameo from Ruadhán Quinn, and Edogbo looks a serious unit and played well too in his time on the pitch.

I thought initially Carbery was bringing more impetus, but he must've had at least 3 passes hit the deck after that?

Casey looked good, probably our best player so far this season and I think his box kicking has improved, but there's some difference when you see how much hangtime Murray gets.

Beirne much improved over last week, and POM had a ridiculous amount of steals. Buckley with a couple of issues on the lineout, but he'll improve.

Phillips and Campbell both promising too, especially in the first half.

Hopefully some initial steps in the right direction, at least and Connacht seems like a good test next week now.

Jaysus give them time only second run out of season

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

no no no.. let them wail... it's what most of these posters do best..#at least we can identify them early in the season and ignore them...

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,242 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

    I didn't say dropped forever

    I said dropped

Murray and Carbery were poor last season too, Carbery has been poor for a long time now, he had a full pre-season, and came on today and threw the ball at the floor 4 times

Murray is not adapting to the new system at all.

Drop them until they prove they're better than the alternatives.

Right now, Carbery is behind Healy and Crowley in my opinion

Murray is possibly even behind Patterson, but there's no requirement to bring him off the bench if Casey is playing well and is fit.

GR needs to stamp his authority. There are no sacred cows on this team. If you're not playing and training well, you're dropped if there's a better alternative.

If they give GR a reason to bring them back in, then they'll have earned it

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,242 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

On a positive note, Casey was outstanding tonight. He is doing everything that JGP does but at a higher level.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

Thought Munster were fairly poor in the second half. Think that’s probably coming from a few things, new systems, players reintegrating and maybe a little lack of confidence.

Some real positives there though in the performances of the young lads. The pick of them being Quinn’s cameo, he looks like a real talent. Would like to see him get some decent minutes to see how he goes. Edogbo is fairly handy too, some real talent coming through the ranks now.

missing out on the lbp may cost Munster though after the two opening games.

I'm very worried about out trip to the sportsground next week.

Connacht's first home game and they have a massive point to prove.

I hope GR selects on form rather than some pre-planned spreadsheet with allocated minutes that JVG seemed to work off

The young fellas that played today showed hunger and urgency. Edogbo looked brilliant, Philips and Campbell were good, and that 18 year old was sensational in his cameo today.

We have enough to beat Connacht, but to build momentum, GR needs to show the players that he rewards the players who perform well on the pitch, and not just have a 'pecking order'
