They do look nice. There are some issues with the manual 1.5 petrol.. something about stalling in first.. check out the web.. are they small inside?

Big issue I have is if you need an automatic you have to go to the top spec model which is costly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭MarkN

My parents got one in Jan, seem happy with it. Cost around €32,000 by the time they added a few bits, virtual cockpit, tints, LED lights etc

I’ve been meaning to grab it to do a review!

The inside is a mix between a Polo and a Golf so the quality isn't as good as what it should be considering they're on the pricey side.

Dealer recommend aftermarket leather fitting as you should be able to get it done for about 1600 and the quality is often better. Part of the extra cost is vrt.. if you pre order the car is more expensive so more vrt.. Nolan Auto Care did my Civic few years ago and it was brilliant

I have the 1.5tsi Sport for just over a year now and I wouldn't recommend it. I have terrible issues with the engine. From a cold start there is a 'engine stutter' which means the car is hopping all over the place until everything gets warmed up. I also have issues with the car speeding up by itself in 2nd gear which is a nightmare driving around car parks.

Car has been back with Volkswagen and they acknowlwdge there is an issue and that they are working on a software update, but they have been working on it for a year now and no sign of it.

Google TROC and kangarooing and you will get loads of people discussing issues with the 1.5tsi in the entire VAG range. See also

    https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/owning-1/2019-01/volkswagen-acknowledges-problem-with-15-tsi-evo-engine/

It doesn't affect all 1.5tsi engines, just some of them. I would recommend you do a test drive from a cold start and see how it drives.

The issue also seems to only effect manual gearboxes. Just be careful, you don't want to spend big money on a car that is a nightmare to drive. Talk to the dealer about the issue and see what they say. I know a lot of dealers will say they have never heard of an issue but they just want to sell the car they don't care what happens when you leave the showroom with it.

It's a pity because aside from that it's a great car, has a great spec and looks really well espicaially in R-Line trim.

Sounds like he was a eager to sell one from stock. I'm aware that trimming companies can do good work but I'd walk away from any car that had such an interior.

Really? Even if the leather is better quality fitted by trimmer? I can't speak highly enough of Nolan autocare.. I'm not sure if they still taking private customers a lot of dealers use them.. a lot of leather that comes in cars is not full leather.. they usually highlight it on spec in small print

And definitely wasn't trying to sell one from stock as I had to wait 4 months for it... Even without leather..

    Was in one last year.

    Lower spec

Found the interior quality a let down. Not up to golf standards.

    Love the outside.

The rear visibility is very poor in the C-HR, the small windows mixed with the black headliner also made for a very dark cabin. Fantastic looking car though, especially with the 18" wheels.

Likewise, wouldn't touch one with a bargepole

    vw rang me again

4 times in 2 days ha ha

he has a 182 only 10 kilometres on clock ( its on the showroom floor )

it has the leather , upgraded alloys , sunroof , to but this spec as 191 its 36.5k

he's trying to get me to take it , its nice , but not my desired colour ( his is orange with orange and black leather ) and it actually suits it etc

    but

it still not my favourite colour , plus only giving me 1500 for my 07 passat , thats actually fine , but i think for a 181 it should be alot less than the 34k advertised

    so 32.5k and my car

heads drifting to a GTD or GTI

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭MarkN

Way too much for what the car is. Leave it.

I wouldn't even include the 07 Passat as a trade-in in any deal as it's practically worth nothing to the dealer. All they are doing is giving you the discount off the T-Roc and sticking it on your Passat to make the deal look more attractive. Reality is they are probably only giving you €500 for the Passat and you could negotiate at least the other 1k off the T-Roc if you had no trade in anyway. I'd keep the Passat out of the deal and sell it on dd.

He's giving you nothing for your car.

Are you saying the retail price of a new one (before any discount) is 36.5k? If you went in to order that with no trade in you'd surely get ~1500 off that at least, plus all the other incentives that VW throw into new cars bought on finance (a further ~1500 purchase contribution, low APR, etc). That makes the 182 at 34k sound very expensive to me.

If you tidied it up the Passat and put it up on DoneDeal you'd surely get a few quid for it. That'll leave you in a stronger position to buy the new car with no trade-in in the equation, because what you've on offer there is not a "deal".

I am considering buying a 2018 Troc and cannot make my mind up between the 1.0 petrol and the 1.6 diesel. I do mostly city driving and although I know i probably should buy petrol, is the 1.0 engine enough to drive size of car smoothly. I see the SEAT ATECA engine sizes are same as TROC but about 3000 cheaper. Any advice welcome

I have the 1.0 in my Golf, it's a great engine for a daily driver. Don't even think about diesel for city driving. The 1 litre has plenty of power for driving around the city and has no issue getting up to 120kph easily for motorways. It's a very quiet engine too.

If you're comparing the Ateca just make sure the spec is the same as Seat tend to have less features.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The T-Roc and Ateca use the same engines because they are sister companies under the Volkswagen Audi Group. If your doing mostly city driving then you don't need a diesel car and it probably won't be any more economical for that driving style than a petrol.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,127 ✭✭✭✭Gael23

It’s 110bhp Turbo charged. Will be plenty for what you need.
Wouldn’t even entertain a Diesel unless you did regular long commutes

Thanks for the replies. Looks like 1.0 petrol. No point buying in lockdown so I guess its wait till December or new year. Probably better choice in new year as people upgrading and trading in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,655 ✭✭✭Wildly Boaring

Wife had the 1.0 in the Ateca.
Fine engine for it except maybe from 100 to 120 on the motorway.
Got to 120 but didn't like it.

    Perfect around a city.

If the Ateca is coming in 3k cheaper than a TROC well I'd buy the Seat all day long.
In fact if they were the same price I'd still have the Seat.
I's a bit bigger, well composed and the materials in both are identical
