I see they still can't afford to get female officers a proper uniform, instead supplying young men with fantasy material instead... oh well....

    PlatinumGames presents ASTRAL CHAIN
With today’s Nintendo Direct, we at PlatinumGames are proud to show off our latest project: ASTRAL CHAIN, a thrilling new Synergetic Action game for Nintendo Switch. We’ve been working on ASTRAL CHAIN for a while now, but we’ve had to keep it under wraps until now. But now that it’s announced, you won’t have too long to wait – It’s coming to Nintendo Switch on August 30! I’m sure some of you were surprised to hear that an all-new, original PlatinumGames title is on its way so soon!

The idea for ASTRAL CHAIN came from none other than Takahisa Taura, the lead game designer for NieR:Automata. Taura and his team – which includes veterans of such PlatinumGames classics as Bayonetta and NieR:Automata – have worked very hard to make his ideas into reality with ASTRAL CHAIN, his directorial debut. Naturally, Taura’s no stranger to action games, but he’s pushed himself to new heights with the dual-character, Synergetic Action of ASTRAL CHAIN.

ASTRAL CHAIN brings you to a bold, near-future cyberpunk metropolis, featuring character designs by Masakazu Katsura, the acclaimed artist behind beloved manga and anime like ZETMAN and Video Girl Ai.

Last but not least, the team has received supervision and guidance from none other than Hideki Kamiya, to ensure that ASTRAL CHAIN has that special something that action game fans have come to expect from PlatinumGames.

I hope that all of you will join me in looking forward to this exciting, original title from one of our up-and-coming directors. I’m confident that you’ll enjoy it.

    Getting close now.

Famitsu's score for Astral Chain in the latest issue: 9/10/9/9

Looks like another Switch cracker. My poor wallet.

Ugh, I thought Bayonetta 3 would be the game I got a Switch for but this is rather tempting now. :o

Yup. This is the game that I get the switch for too.

Now to try and root out some money!

A steady stream of 9+ scores, with a handful of outliers.

First play through is 20+ hours. More if you do side quests. Seems like great value. :)

Even better value at €30. :) good to see it's getting great reviews. Must have a read of a few

Glad to see it is reviewing well, Platinum have been very poor besides Nier and Bayonetta 2 in the last 5 years

They'd such a great run from 2009 to Bayonetta 2. I enjoyed Automata but I'm still wary of buying this even with the positive reviews.

The Gamestop offer that was on at the weekend.

Great to see another Switch exclusive coming in with 9/10 reviews. That's two in as many months which is amazing stuff. Im still stuck into Fire Emblem but looking forward to giving this a bash when it arrives.

Can't believe it was only announced in February and they can deliver such an apparently polished finished product in September. Obviously it was in development longer than that but great stuff regardless. Don't think Nintendo gets enough credit for that kind of work on the Switch. Compare it to Death Stranding which was announced 3 years ago and people are still clueless about what type of a game it is.

The reviews have convinced me to buy it. Smyths still letting you pre-order the physical version for €50. Think that might go up considering how well it's reviewing.

I was in GS in Swords today, with my green loyalty card Astral Chain cost me €25 when I traded in a PS4 game, and Zelda LA as well for another €25 with Octopath.

Pretty happy with that pair of deals.

I must remember I have to venture downtown at lunch on Friday to get this. I keep forgetting it's out so soon, then Link's Awakening 3 weeks later

Smyths pull online pre orders for new releases a few days before release day, I dont know why as it'll be up again in the morning unless it sells out.

Pity (in my case) anything you order from Amazon takes a few days longer than it did this time last year. Still it's better than it will be with tariffs and VAT if...sorry when a no deal Brexit happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭blockfighter

Just bought it with smyths for in store collection tomorrow for €50. Had no interest in this game until a week ago until the hype swept me up. Was slightly let down by Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 so trading that in for €38 at cex to part fund it.

If I order on a Monday I have it on Wednesday. I'd say 90% of stuff takes two days with prime.

Well, that's about the typical level of insanity I have come to expect from this company, feels very Vanquish like, at least now.

I've gots it in me handses. On an unrelated note the girl in Gamestop was condemning GTA because of all the dead hookers. I had to point out that you don't *have* to murder them (even if it is the fiscally more responsible decision). Kids these days.... So bloodthirsty

Only had a chance to play a bit of the first mission for a few minutes, fun so far. Bit busy for handheld mode maybe so might try it docked later.

Really should finish divinity original sin before I launch inot this properly though!

Got this as the second game on the 2 for 100 deal. I wasn't really interested when I seen the original announcement but the reviews I seen today convinced me. Looking forward to playing later.

Yep, came through for me aswell. Thought they were bailing on my online preorder but they got it sent to my nearest branch instead.

I’m surprised at just how big it is but glad I spent the extra few bob on it

So has anyone actually played it yet?

Just picked up the game and looking forward to giving it a whirl after the matches today.

So has anyone actually played it yet?

I got through the opening scene (intriguingly bat****, but, dare I say it, almost coherent by Platinum's standards) and some of the motorbike bit - so about 4 minutes in - before I was discovered by my kids and had to put it away. So far it's a really gorgeous looking take on space invaders. But I haven't reached the game proper. But technically I've played it do in answer to your question, Yes!

Edit : ok, 40 minutes in. Combat is button mashy but it's stylish as all ****. Enjoying it so far. Loving the hill Street blues in manga/space feel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭blockfighter

Played about an hour this morning. Loving it so far. Looks gorgeous on the big TV.
