Politics.ie did away with their thanks function recently.
Most likely because their Sinclair ZX81 broke down.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I was going to thank that but, in the spirit of the thread, I'll just say; I liked that post.

Never knew there was one. Is it linked to here?

Without a thanks option to indicate agreement or support for a comment, we would be inundated with repetitions as posters voiced said opinion for themselves. You'll find the most ardent opposition to Thanks comes from those who don't like that all these Thanks are applauding a post contrary to their own view or perhaps putting them, usually rightly, under pressure to justify a statement or premise.

    +1 to this.

I've seen some worthless threads in my time on boards but this one has to be rock bottom.

I would thank this 100 times if I could.

It's absurd to deny that there is an ethnic schism most prevalent in the psyches of Irish people today. The connection with speaking English might seem rather vague if one wishes to nitpick what I said but really I was pointing to the underlying history itself as most fundamental rather than the the corresponding surface level expressions that are the use of language.

How else are we to determine if posts that have walls of text are a worthwhile read?
The more thanks a post get's the more likely you'll be to read it.

I sometimes look to see who has thanked the post before I determine if I’ll bother reading it

Can anyone tell me how this has managed to get over 900 thanks? If you thanked it, what possessed you to do so? Do you genuinely find it funny?

It was 2005. It was a different time. Getting kicked in the face was just what we did back then.

    And a middle finger one

I would also need a meh button. Then I can be proactively apathetic about a post.

@Irish guitarist: please watch your tone when you speaketh of the Kicker of Faces (unbanned be his account).

literally the OP's 2nd post on Boards. Is he just disappointed that hardly anyone thanked his 1st post?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,039 ✭✭✭✭retro:electro

Thank this if you agree the thanks button should stay.

I think they only brought in 'thanks' in 2006 or 07, before that there was a kind of karma system, and then for a while there was nothing at all,
    nothing at all

From reading the thread I can understand why Boards brought in the thumbs-up button to eliminate the excessive '+1' posts but they should have simultaneously brought in a thumbs-down button; if you are able to 'like' a post then you should be also be able to 'dislike' a post with a single button click.

  • Registered Users Posts: 498 ✭✭Muckka

You'll get no thanks for it that's for sure.

    Posting on board's is thankless.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,359 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

The original OP lost me at "highly nuanced."

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 Patlanta

Took you more than a single button click though

I get that this whole thread was started by a new poster but the whole likes thing does piss me off. Without dislikes what does it mean really? It just means that people who are in the same field as you (far right, far left or whatever you're called nowadays) think you're hilarious.

Even extremely racist, homophobic, straight out genocide supporters are liked on here but not subjected to any dislikes.

It's like Boards is an echo chamber. Strange don't you think?
