    That's qualification sorted.

It cannot be overstated how idiotic Exeter have been in this match. They've turned down every kickable penalty they've had, every single one. And they're going out of the competition because of it.
They're used to scoring from those lineouts. They're not used to playing Munster at Thomond Park

What happened to Murray? Hopefully not out for England

It's not just this match. Exeter always go for the corner. Again and again. It has worked for them in the past.

I will never understand the tactic of box kicks with 5 minutes to go

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,149 ✭✭✭mangobob

discipline going to be critical here. no penalties.

The ownness was on Exeter in this match and they didn't play with enough ambition nor kick penalties earlier in the match to build a bit of a lead.
Poor fare by both teams though.Turgid rugby.

No need for POM to drive into the Exeter player after the whistle there.

Exeter handed that game to Munster, will rue not taking the penalties.

    Yesss

Great win but big improvement needed for the QF

Not many would of predicted we would win without scoring a try

Only thing worse than munster's performance was the refereeing of the break down. Applies to both teams.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,813 ✭✭✭Eoinbmw

    Pure guts won that one!

    Beirne seems to be limping.

Strange tone on bt..."Exeter should be proud they went toe to toe with Europe's best "...eh aren't Exeter one of the top teams in England (the greatest league...ever)..

What a tough game. Real cup rugby, error strewn. (Munster knock ons, Exeter not going for goal)

I got home just in time to pick the game up from 60ish minutes. Can someone give a quick rundown?

The only way Munster are reaching a semi final is if they are fortunate enough to end up against Edinburgh.

I knew it would be a low scoring game - most did

    Some entertainment!!!

Not a perfect game by a long shot but no quarter given by either team.

    Exeters decisions were flabbergasting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,870 ✭✭✭✭mfceiling

I really really really enjoyed that.

That was as physical a game of rugby as you will see. 100mph stuff and not a quarter given on either side. Nobody stood out as being particularly great. Conway the pick of the bunch for me.

I agree with the rest of your post, but that completely ruined it for me. :P

Holland will (rightly) get the plaudits for his cameo but I thought Botha was fantastic, just what Munster needed to help Stander out at the breakdown as it was 3v1 from a backrow point of view.

Uncharacteristically poor games from both Conway and Murray.

Job done though. That's all the matters in the end.

Not a great game at all.

Munster never really looked like scoring a try.

I thought Tadhg Beirne and Jack Nowell were the standout players.

Would be interesting to see Nowell play 7 for Eddie Jones in the 6N!

An unusually accurate take on the standard of the Gallagher Premiership from BT.

Rue. Thats the word of the thread. I think they already rue their decisions. The thing is, they have an extremely powerful lineout maul. They usually score from those positions. Munster defended them really well. This was such an intense physical game. Every ball won was won with guts for glory

The commentators announced that Munster now had a free play with penalty advantage. Joey proceeded to tuck the ball up the jumper and run straight at a forward. How can Munster get a free play when they have NO plays whatsoever?

God bless the Munster set piece. Tagh beirne and Henderson were amazing today for Munster and Ulster and neither will play against England.

Am I right in saying we'll be away to Edinburgh? Assuming, of course, Leinster win their game.

    I'd take that.

Exeter are as tough as any team in Europe, their defense and ability to hold onto possession just wore Munster down. Tactically they are very sharp and they are used to grinding out tight knockout games. Edinburgh away will not be as tough.

I hate the box kick as a tactic. It can ruin a game when it's overused.

    Not sure. 4.Henderson, 5.Ryan started 6N v Fra & the GS v Eng.
Beirne over Toner is the call. Toner wins v Eng
