Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good on him, calling out the racism in ulster rugby.

    Except he's not.

He's gone just far enough to make the story about himself but not far enough to achieve anything.

Much like his international career I suppose.

Booing an Irish rugby player in Ireland. As low as it gets from degenerates.

As an Ulster fan it definitely didn't sit well with me at all.

I don't know about the racist side of things. It's not entirely clear that is what Zebo is referencing. But that's why I think it's essential Ulster are pro active and contact to clarify what he thinks was said and then to act accordingly.

I agree it’s not 100% clear but it’s more than just boos he referenced but comments. The fact he mentions Django certainly makes it look they were racist in nature.

He left for money, and what's wrong with that. I'd do the same

    Agree.

Call it out or stfu. There's no place for racism anywhere be it on the street, the workplace or at a sports stadium. If you don't make a stand or call it out then you're not too bothered by it. Less of the "cryptic" crying on social media....if there was racist comments please make a proper complaint about it and get this crap nipped in the bud.

If it's racism, he needs to call it out and stop with the bullshít drama stirring. There's zero point in him leaving people speculating a serious issue like that.

Django was his nickname in the Irish setup. After Jamie Foxx.

A nickname he gave himself, before someone accuses the Irish team of being racist.

Yes but you must look at the context of his comments. It certainly seems like he is insinuating racism. I think he should clarify as others have said.

I think Stockdale may be the top try scorer in the cup this season. 6 tries so far. Can't find an official table.

He is at the minute (or at least was at 5pm this evening).

His antics towards Michael Lowry have soured me.

We can forget about him. He’s not an Ireland player and he will never be an Ireland player again.

He did make amends afterwards. Even the ref chided him for it. Heat of the moment stuff and not his usual way as he seems to be a great guy. It wasn't classy but there are a lot worse things done on the field that doesn't draw such opprobrium.

I get that, but he apologised, Lowry accepted it and I think posted Instagram telling everyone to move on as he had.

I believe he also spoke out on behalf of Paddy Jackson playing in France a while back.

Anyway each to their own, its the not the crime of the century to boo.

But I just hope their wasn't a racist comment. I despise racism so much and I dont want Ulster associated with it in any way at all.

If there was racism anyone involved should be banned for life.

But I’ve no problem with booing. I’d be a hypocrite if I did because I’d be booing along with them.

Yeah the booing for me is pantomime stuff for a crowd. If you want to shout out racist comments then fcuk off with yourself but the booing is like childish carry on adults do for craic.

If there were racist comments in the crowd, the culprits should be found and banned.

And if any poster makes snide, comments relating to another poster's background with sectarian suggestions, I hope they're treated the same as they're just as bad.

Re: Zebo's tweet - he has gotten plenty of attention from Welsh supporters over the years (mockingly chanting "Zebo!" the way some Munster fans did, after he made a mistake) so i doubt his comment is in relation to the booing.
There is precedent for racial slurs being used by fans at Ravenhill, but usually by one or two. Not trying to say it's endemic.
I've heard anti-English jibes towards players in Thomond, so it goes to show that some folk at games can't control themselves.

The only occurrence of supposed racism I recall was friend to all Delon Armitage making a claim in a game between Ulster and LI about a decade ago. Matt McCullough called him a spide and Armitage accused him of calling him a spade.

McCullough was cleared of all charges following a hearing.

Yeah I wondered if that was what he was referring to

Fair enough... Although it was 12 years ago, but still as I say I hate racism so if any Ulster fan is guilty of it, ban them for life.

I was back from the pub for this match - no TV and no stream - had to listen to it on the radio and only just got to see the highlights on YouTube. Stockdale is some man for one man! Enjoy.

Watched recording of match having been at the game. How on earth can Austin Healy say that pass to Imhoff near the end of the game (from which Imhoff scored) was not forward? Replays showed it was forward by some way.

He's on a complete wind up. Healey gets off on people reacting. There's no coincidence that he called Ludik's pass "a mile forward" for Stockdale's first and then said the Imhoff one wasn't forward. You couldn't make out the Ludik pass at all properly (although a good chance it was slightly) but you could clearly see the Imhoff one in open space.

He does it for a giggle and finds himself hilarious. As long as people keep reacting, he'll keep at it.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if there is truth behind the allegations.

There is a cloud of sexism hanging over rugby around the province, and racism isn't all that much of a leap from there. There are also previous allegations of racism surrounding the province also afaik.

The booing was bad/embarassing enough. Racism is a step too far. You would hope that any and all involved are banned for life.

With everyone videoing everything these days, there would surely be recording of any racist comments going viral already.

There is a cloud of sexism hanging over rugby in general, so it's hardly fair to single out Ulster. And the allegations that Armitage forwarded ages ago were dismissed weren't they?

Watch the Ulster haters jump on Zebos statement.

Wonder which country is the 2nd most racist in the Eu.......

If anyone gave Zebo racist abuse, I hope they are found out and banned from Ravenspan for life. Racism is vile; a pox on our society.

If it wasn't a home game maybe, but its highly unlikely that someone at a home game would video some of their fellow supporters being racist and circulate it on social media.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,501 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

I would say this, though. There have been baseless and conniving accusations of bigotry against Ulster fans before.

You would only have to look at the Guardian having to pay half a million to Patrick Bamford because they ran the story of Trevor Brennan’s da hoping everyone would just assume the Nordies are bigoted monsters and he could fling about whatever accusations he wants.

I was at the game..zebo was booed by large sections of the crowd as the panto villain. Only thing I heard shouted at him was ...."where's your finger now.." after Ulster scored.
