    My gym recently got one of these machines;

    https://primalstrength.com/alpha-commercial-fitness-elite-iso-hack-v-squat

    Was not really sure how to use it but after googling, you can use it for a standard ‘hack squat’ and then a ‘reverse hack squat’

    Traditional or older type hack squat machines (like in the attached file) seem to be a lot more angled than the new one in my gym.

    What is your opinion on the new machine at my gym?

    A decebt alternative to standard squats?

    And then when used as a reverse hack squat., is it good for glutes?

    Note: I have back issues and standard squats etc seem to make my back issues re appear.

    It's much like any machine...will have its uses.

    It's not an alternative to squats though.

    It's possible that the discomfort you feel when doing barbell squats is because of your technique. Not saying it is but it is a possibility.

    I hear what your saying, but have had back issues before I started ever doing weights etc.

    So have to be very careful of it.
