Why does everyone hate the coconut ones?

This has been a lifelong Christmas saga since I was a young child.

Whether it’s Roses, Quality streets or Celebrations, the tin is devoured with nothing but a dozen coconut ones left within a day or two of Christmas. They sit in there like abandoned children until I come along and put them out of their misery.

I absolutely adore bounty’s and simply don’t understand the lack of love here, while the infamous and incredibly mediocre “purple ones” fly out of the tin and cause domestic disputes around the dinner table.

    What gives?

Lots of people don’t like coconut? What other reason would there be? Surely it’s good for coconuts-lovers (the big weirdos)? More sweets for them.

In our house it's always the Strawberry one that get's left.

The coconut in the little celebrations bounty always seems really grainy compared to the big bar.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,219 ✭✭✭pablo128

The little itty bitty pieces of coconut get wedged in between my teeth like grouting on tiles.

I do like Bounty's though. I just eat them last.

Coffee ceames. Why the **** do they even exist?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

They're my favorite from a box of Roses. Love me a Bounty too.

We have the perfect marriage. I like all the hard ones, Mrs CML likes the soft ones.

    Sweets I mean, ahem.

Initially they're pleasant enough, but the chocolate quickly goes leaving you with a mouthful of dry coconut. Like trying to chew sawdust.

The coffee creams in Roses years ago, wrapped in brown foil, were delectable!

I don't mind the Bounty ones myself and am most partial to the strawberry and chocolate creams.

Isn't it more of a coffee truffle now?

    Turkish delight yuk.
Nothing summed up the end of Christmas like the remnants of a box of Dairy Milk with just the Turkish delight left.

Bounty is one of my favourites. Imagine my surprise the first time I had real coconut (in Fiji) and discovered it was nothing like a Bounty

They were fupping were not. Thy're the reason I've never had a cup of coffee in my 35 years.

What’s it like living on mars? Why do I ask that? Well you must be from mars to not like Turkish delight.

We lived in a flat roofed house until I was 8. When we moved to a house with an attic, the folks took to hiding Christmas stuff up there, including the selection boxes. Anyway one year the stuff was taken down and mice had gotten into the selection boxes. They ate everything except the Turkish Delights! Literally a few nibbles from each one!.:pac::pac:

I didn't blame them either. They taste like paint or something.

Biggest weirdos are those who like the black cherry ones.

    Next, coffee.

    Next, strawberry.

    Next, coconut.

Anyone who doesn't like the coffee ones, pass 'em over this way. Eager consumers are waiting for your call.

Not a fan of strawberry, orange, coffee or the bounty ones, always left and then thrown out

    Damn sweets being sugary!

Aren't they like a truffle now anyway as well?

I'm with you, OP. I love coconut.

People who don't like coconut are strange and unusual, quite possibly not to be trusted with important secrets, have poor timekeeping, lax morals, and are lacking in good taste.

As all those sweets are. Never touched them since I was a kid.

Coconut flavour is good, but the dessicated coconut fruit is too rough a texture.

It's dried and cheap. I don't think kids in Asia are eating that stuff.

Having said that, I'd used to love snowballs as a kid.

I used be able to demolish a box of Roses at one time, now I can't eat a half doz before feeling sick of them, overly sugary, soapy tasting chocolate.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,901 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

Maybe we've grown up, but no, they're bad sugary sheit.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,901 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

I always liked the ones with nuts.
The only time we got nuts to eat, in the 80's.

Love the coconut ones. The coffee truffle in Roses is nice but not a patch on the old coffee cream. Turkish delight is delicious, especially the Frys bar, a solid chunk of Turkish Delighty heaven :)

Hate anything mint chocolate. Mint should only be used in toothpaste and chewing gum.

    Love Rose.

    Rose harrisa is gorgeous though.

    And Hendricks gin :)

Fresh mint can be nice with sautéed tomatoes.
Once had a horrible veg soup with mint, tasted like chewing gum, eugh!

Another coconut hater here. When I was a kid the strawberry ones were my favourite, with the red and blue wrapping around it. The coffee cremes were a close second, and the purple ones were amazing. I find the strawberry ones a bit too sweet for me now. The green triangle ones are good too.
