This yeards pbs ended with :

5k - 17.56 Only set last week at Jingle bells
    5m - 30.08 Only 5m I did was Raheny so I'll try break the 30mins next month
10k - 37.25. Set in Dunboyne 10k in March. Tried to better in a couple of times in June but didn;t really get close.
10m - 63.53 Again I only fully raced a single 10 which was Trim. Signed up again for this year
HM - 1.21.42 Most surprising result of the year for me I think. Set in Rathoath. Went out faster than planned but was still able to lift the pace the last 2 miles
Marathon - 2.56.19. Didn;t think I'd have a sub 3 in me this year but things went better than planned

That's super running well done!! More in you too. What kinda mileage did you do?

currently about 2100m. Mileage has died off since DCM:o

    Mileage - 2000 miles
Will be close-ish to 1500 miles this year and hoping that with consistently higher mileage next year I can hit the 2000 mark

Race times - not too sure - hoping that I can start shaving time off gradually. My experience this year is of taking off large chunks of time but this probably isnt likely anymore (fingers crossed I will be able to revise my goals later in the year)

    5k - Sub 21 (PB 21.22)

    10k - Sub 44 (PB 44.22)

Not sure about longer distances yet

    Other goals
    Have a go at a 1 mile and/or 2 mile race
Diet and nutrition is definitely an area I can make big improvements and hoping this will help me see time gains

    A happy enough 2019

Won't be anywhere near 2000 miles - but mileage is is significantly up on last year. With a few longer runs on the break over Christmas I'll hopefully finish a bit over the 1700m mark (currently 1673).

Ticked off both the 5k and 10k goals: 20.52 (Bob Heffernan) and 43.58 (Rathcoffey 10k in Feb) - Didn't run any other 10ks and I felt there was a point in my training where I could potentially have shaved off a few extra seconds.

Didn't do any shorter distances but tackled a 10m for the first time (1.13.30), got new half marathon and marathon PBs (1.35.20 and 3.27.35).

No marathon on the horizon in 2020. My goal I think is to try to break sub-20 in the 5k and get a new 10k PB. Recently had a fairly disastrous Jingle Bells, so I'm under no illusions of how tough it will be to break that 20min barrier...

Looking forward to another year running!!

Last goal achieved - hit my 1500 miles this morning. Pretty pleased with myself as I pretty much did everything I set out to do this year with PBs in all distances from 5Km to marathon and first time hitting 1500 miles in a year too.

Next year I’m hoping to chip away at the 10 mile and HM PBs but not doing a marathon.

Finally updating my marathon pb after 2years. 10 races and 9 PBs so far this year. Next goal is to hit 1500 miles before year end. Undecided if doing any more races. It’s been a good year and my running has come on a lot.

    1. One huge goal for 2019 - DCM.
Have an entry, will be my first marathon. Just to finish will be enough but I would be hoping to do it in 4:40 or less.

    2. A PB at 5k and 10k. Anything will do
    Current 5k PB is 26:54 (2017)
    Current 10k PB is 57:39 (2017)

    3. Stay healthy and not get a cold for the year, or at least up as far as the marathon

    4. 1000 miles. Should do it if I'm doing the marathon training right!

    1. Yes! It didn't go to plan - race report here if you're interested https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=111624035&postcount=84 but I finished it.

    2. Yes and No.
5km - 27:12 - Jingle Bells. I initially thought this was a PB because Strava told me so, but now that I've come here to update, I realise it isn't. I'm not changing my Strava :pac:
    10km - 57:01 - Superhero 10km in Kill in Feb.

    3. No. I did a lot better than I have done in previous years, but I still managed to be sick for roughly a week around end of Sep.

    4. Yes! Passed the 1k mark a bit before the marathon.

Overall - a satisfying year. I feel like I achieved a good amount, but have also left myself with plenty to aim for next year

No more races for the year so I'm calling it quits for the 2019 goals. Good year, improvements in all distances except the half and I tried something new with the trail races which I really enjoyed. Already looking forward to the 2020 goals.

I love this thread, missed it last last year. Targets are in parts a bit aggressive to build on the good progress this year.
    1. Run a PB in Berlin, hopefully sub 3:30, PB 3:49 - PB of 3:32:06, sub 3:30 was there but I couldn't close the deal.
    2. Finish two marathons. - Yes, Berlin & Dublin
    3. Sub 20 5K, PB 20:32 - Yes, 19:57 around the Marina in August
    4. Sub 43 10K, PB 44:24 - Yes kind of, did 42:40 for the first 10K of the Cork City 10 miler
    5. Sub 1:30 Half, PB 1:35 - No, Hard fail - fastest half was 1:37, didn't really race any but still poor
    6. Sub 70 10M, PB 72:24 - Nope, 70:20 for the Cork City 10 miler
    7. Do a Cross Country race - Nope, couldn't find the right one due to marathon training
    8. Do a trail half marathon - Yes, did 2 -Ballyhoura & Galtymor, great fun
    9. Run 2,000 miles, Current total for 2018 1,754 - No, will probably finish around 1,820, post marathon malaise cost me in October - November
    10. Try to run a negative split in a meaningful race, I'm tired of being passed by people at the end of races.Kinda, managed it in a couple of shorter races but still big positive splits in the marathons

I had avoided setting goals for that reason but 2018 was the first year since I started which was (mostly) uninterrupted by injury or illness and that meant I topped 2,000 miles for the first time. So, I'll do some goals for 2019 - mostly track and xc and more confident of 800m-3k targets, as I may not get to run the longer distances.

    Distance|Goal
    800m|<2:01
    1500m|<4:10
    3k|<9:10
    5k|<16:00
    HM|<76:00
    Competition|Goal
    Road Relays|Team Medal
    National Masters T&F|Individual Medal
    Dublin Novice|Top 10
    Dublin Intermediate|Top 8
    National Novice|Top 50

    EBu3Wl7WwAAX5Gk?format=jpg&name=small

This is what happens when I set targets out loud.

What a **** show this year has been. Started well with 27:12 in Raheny and a really good run (for me) at National Masters XC but got a little derailed after the relative disappointment of Bohermeen and then went entirely down the pan after a month or so of track. Best illustrated by my mileage for the year

JAN-MAY (943 miles over 5 months) vs JUN-to date (777 miles over nearly 7 months).

    Distance|Goal|Detailed Description of Failure
800m|<2:01| Two awful races, 2nd one was my slowest since 2013.
1500m|<4:10|Decent 4:17 season opener but abandoned season after 2nd 800.
3k|<9:10 | No attempt, abandoned track season after 800s.
5k|<16:00 | Abandoned idea after abandoned track season.
    HM|<76:00 |Way off - ran 78mins.
    Competition|Goal|Detailed description of Failure
Road Relays|Team Medal| Didn't make team - team won Gold and broke course record without me.
National Masters T&F|Individual Medal|didn't run, season was 2 months over by this stage.
Dublin Novice|Top 10|Never a possibility - finished in the late-20s (but got a team silver due to 3 other scorers in the top 12).
    Dublin Intermediate|Top 8|Didn't run.
National Novice|Top 50|Didn't run. Tweaked my calf last Tuesday.

Apart from Raheny and National Masters XC, neither of which were goals, it's been a disappointing year. Hopefully, next year will get back to training properly and the times I should be running.

    Bring on 2020.

I believe i still have big gains to make and hope to PB at all/most of these distances again in 2019.

    5k - 23:33
    8k: 40:26
    10k: 49:48
    10m: 1:26:xx
    HM: 1:52:31
    Full: 4:27:09

So big gains eh , here's what actually happened :p

    5k - 23:33 [down to 22:42]
    8k: 40:26 [down to 38:37]
10k: 49:48 [raced but failed to PB]
    10m: 1:26:xx [didn't race in 2019]
    HM: 1:52:31 [down to 1:48:42]
    Full: 4:27:09 [down to 4:26:18]

51s off my 5k (over 5 races) and 3:49 off my HM (in my only HM)! Yip I consider those big gains and am very proud of both of those results :)

3 * 10ks in the first half of the year failed to yield a PB :( I'm pretty confident that i had a decent PB in the legs in the 2nd half of the year (8k race during my HM block in Aug indicated as much also) but i didn't get to race it again unfortunately so that will just have to remain as unfinished business.

Mileage wise I'd love to build on this year (close to 1500 miles) but unfortunately with some changes in circumstances at home i expect mileage to be even more challenging than it was this year so if i can match this year's i'll be very happy.

As expected similar to last year. 1464 in 2018 and just over 1500 with 11 days to go this year. More evenly distributed this year as I had no marathon block to skew the average, quite satisfied with that :)

I've been doing strength work in the past month while i haven't been running so much and one of my goals is to keep it up and continue to record it for accountability to myself.

I finished that S&C class in February and never managed to sign up to another one. This is an area i need to improve on, seeing quite a few fall victim to injury this year should be a lesson in itself if only i'd learn :o

Overall very happy with the year. It came together, albeit slowly, my takeaway lesson for the year is to have a patience, trust in the process and results will follow :)

Haven't put any aims on paper (so to speak) before but for 2019 I want to lose more weight. Currently, I've lost 11 lbs on the year. Do more parkruns. I did 11 this year, compared to 7 total pre-2018. I'd like to do maybe 30+. Staying injury free is the biggest challenge. Maybe running sub 28 might be possible with more weight loss and consistent running. (Reduced Parkrun PB from 30:05 to 29:22 this year)

    That'll do for now.

End of year review: did 31 PRs this year, to reach 50 total. New PB, 28:35. Also improved in the GOAL mile by a whole 6 seconds.

Volunteered 24 times this year, combined with my 3 from last year, means I got my Aubergine t. I'm proud of that. Volunteering at Junior PR makes it handy to get your numbers up, and you can still get your runs in.

Losing more weight? Yeah, we'll say no more...:o

...but 2020 will be better, I promise. :pac:

    Happy New Year, y'all!

I finally have a goal for 2019. To try not to get lapped in a 4 lap 5km race this evening where the course record is 14:11 and I've somehow managed to wrangle a spot in the "elite" race with the super speedsters.

I made it, only by about 50m though, I also recorded my years best 5km time by 1 second. Annoyingly despite the Garmin claiming that I was running well under sub 18 pace all the way I just missed that target.

Oh well, there's a couple of parkruns in a few hours. :D

I haven't done this for a couple of years as I knew the mileage and sleep/recovery wouldn't be good enough. For the first time in a few years I have ran over 1,000 miles this year, so I have a decent base going into 2019.

    Targets
    5km < 18 mins
    5 miles < 30 mins
    10km < 38 mins
    10 mile < 63 mins
    1/2 < 85 mins
    Marathon < 3hrs

I feel if I can get my weekly mileage consistently above 50 per week I will have a good chance of doing these.

I had loftier goals than the ones listed below, but I’ve gone a bit backwards in my running lately, so I’ve decided on some more realistic aims for 2019.

I don’t have any overarching running goals for 2019 - my next big goal is sub 2 for a half and I think that’s a couple of years away, so 2019 will be spent getting quicker over the shorter distances in the first half of the year with DCM being the focus for the second half of the year.

    Time goals:

    5k - sub 25
    5mile - sub 44
    10k - sub 56
    Marathon - sub 4:30

    If I race a half: sub 2:04

    Ancillary goals:

Run an average of seven hours a week. I’ll have averaged about six for 2018, so it might be a bit of a stretch goal, but it should be a good motivator.

Pilates - twice a week for three months and then review.

    Oh well! There's always 2020 :o

    Bonus points would be a sub 23 5k (23.23 in 2018).

Hoping to enter 4 half marathons. Not too concerned with times on these but a sub 1hr50 would be nice.

Towards the end of the year if all goes well I may start to consider full marathon.

    1. failed
    2. Failed but did get 23.10. Times have increased again in last 6 months though.
    3. All done and did my best time in Wexford. Didn't beat 1hr50 but came reasonably close
    4. Not going to happen in short term due to 1. above

    What's another year!!
Better set some goals for this year which are fairly straightforward - PB's at 5k, 10k and HM - Eh 1 out of 3 ain't bad :o

5K PB is 17:48 from Castlepollard in 2015. Realistically it will be the tail end of the year before I can get close - maybe Jingle Bells. Best I managed was 18:20 early on in the year when the focus was on the HM. Sickness in December scuppered the 5k plan but not too disappointed as the focus was on the HM.

HM - PB is 1:28:17 from Bohermeen in 2015. Would like to think I can dip under this in Bohermeen in March. Achieved in Galway with 1:27:02 and probably would have been under again in Clontarf. Pleased with performances in Half's this year and have turned the half into my new favourite distance to race!

10k - PB is 38:16 Run With Catherina 2016: Would like to have a good crack at this either in Dunshaughlin or the Race Series 10k. Missed Dunshaughlin and mucked up the Race Series but was never the focus this year

Club: Aim is to medal at 3,000 at T&F Counties and Masters Cross-country. Both achievable but obviously dependent on who shows up on the day. Achieved with a silver at Masters XCountry - missed the T&F for some reason this year

Other than that - hit 2,000miles for the year. If I hit that should be close to hitting all the other targets. 2,042.2 miles for the year - will take that

    Jesus, loads of Goals already...

Pretty much the same as last year, don't get injured, don't get injured....

    As regards specifics :-

    1. A few more foreign (outside Dublin) Parkrun's.
    2. Run at lease one of the above in under 20m.
    3. Raheny 5, anything around 36 and I will be delighted, given that the training at the moment is very patchy.
    4. Sub 69min 10Mile (Probably the Battle of Clontarf in April).
    5. Sub 1:33 half, the days of sub 1:30 are well and truly gone :(

    6. DCM - the big question, initially I was just going to enjoy the run, but given that coach won the first DCM 40 years ago, most of the club will be running in October. Based on that, the training groups should be pretty strong, so ill see how things are in June. Ran 3:13 back in 2017, so 1 minute faster and id be delighted.

    1. Did Swords and Fairview Parkruns, really foreign stuff there...
    2. I got down to 20:14 in June, and probably could have pushed on over the weeks following on from that but didn't.
    3. Raheny 5. Actually didn't get to run it as i was doing the race numbers and the goody bags after.
    4. Done. 68:40 in the Battle of clontarf in April. Was slower in the FD in July,
    5. Missed this one. 1:33:40 in Bohermeen, but that was down to the weather on the day, and 1:34 in the national, and that was down to an night out the night before.

    6. DCM- Missed this by a mile. 3:24. Combination of factors really. Older and wiser, not a great training block, and 1.5 hours sleep the night before left me flat. Still happy that i ran it...

I haven’t posted on these threads in years, so committing to it represents my improved attitude of late.

Marathon: Sub 3. Haven’t gone under 3 since 2:49 back in 2014. 2016 was me bottoming out, so I am pretty confident sub3 should be doable.

Half: Haven’t done a 1/2 marathon in 4 years, pb of 1:19 unlikely to be under threat, but hopefully 1:23-1:25 in RnR in August.

Consistent Mileage: This needs work. Monthly mileage target is 100 minimum, if I hit 150 for 3-4 consecutive months, I see big rewards.

5k or 3k: I’m willing to stick my neck out here and target a pb at one of these distances. 17:28 and 10:05 are soft, I’ve not had a pb at any distance since running all of them in 2013-14. Maybe Louth outdoor for the 3,000 or a suitably fast 5k somewhere.

Goal mileage for the year: 1,500
I used to regularly do 1,500-1,900, that’s about the sweet spot for making gains, staying healthy and not taking away from family.

Marathon? Close but no cigar. Belfast - 3:01 or something after two or three downward adjustments on long course. Lanzarote- 3:06. Happy with effort in those and Monaghan was just for fun.

Half? Another fail. 1:27 and 1:28 in two races, wasn’t anywhere near race fitness for either.

Consistent mileage: Yes. Bar being sick in February and just about getting 100 miles in another couple of months, I did nicely, 150-200 miles in 4 out of 12 months is ok.

    PB? No attempt at any

Mileage total - yes, just about.
