Some really great games lined up this week. Shame Chargers Chiefs is Thursday, because it might ruin what otherwise looks like a great game. It's weird how little anyone pays attention to the Chargers, and yet they are really good this year and have the potential to beat anyone (still think the Chiefs will do it, at home on a Thursday).

Saturday games are an interesting diversion, but the match-ups are a bit meh...Sunday Phins Vikings, Cowboys Colts, and Packers Bears are all potentially really entertaining games.

Personally would like to see Eagles and Panthers cause the upset...something tells me I'll be disappointed there.

Going for the Chargers tonight, they are 7-0 down early.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,004 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

Another inept refereeing performance. They missed a helmet to helmet on Rivers on one play then the next call a completely ludicrous pass interference on the chiefs in the endzone. Mike Pereira seems to think his job is to always defend refereeing decisions no matter what, he didn't seem to even believe his own interpretation on that one.

I'm not sure about the PI call but he did have his arm before he caught the ball.
Balls of steel going for the two point conversion and the win.

    Delighted for the Chargers.

Good call on the prediction, and yeah that was a ballsy call on the two pointer. Chargers seem to have been flying under the radar all season for some reason, that game, on the road on a Thursday, is a serious statement. Rivers and Benjamin looked to be on fire tonight.

I seem to remember Ron Rivera doing that last year or the year before to win at some stage, maybe I'm misremembering

Actually the Panthers went for two THIS year against Detroit to win, but they didn't convert it and lost. I think it was actually the raiders did it recently enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

A few bad calls at the end, but the Chargers going for the 2 pointer, balls of steel right there. They've a nice balance of attack and defence, no Gordon tonight who should be fit soon enough, Keenan Allen also leaving the game. They've something about them this year, they've also had an easy schedule but that win tonight is a bit of statement.

I remember the Raiders doing it late in a game a few years ago when they were on a bit of a run.

Swap the teams and that's the most lol Chargers ending ever.

Titans tried it against the Chargers in London this year also. Didn't convert though.

Sweet victory for the Chargers, however the Chiefs still hold the #1 seed. Chiefs away to the Hawks next week and Chargers at Mile High the week after will decide it. Sickening for the Chargers if they both win out.

Jack del Rio sometimes did it with the Raiders and got a few wins

To be fair the Chargers would almost certainly have missed the extra point so going for two was the percentage play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,962 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Chargers are best team this season, certainly in terms of balance between offense and defense. No one is going to want to see them at the 5 seed.

I'd dispute that they are the best team to be honest. They struggled against some bad teams and have been pretty inconsistent.

Having said that they could end up as the number 1 seed. The Chiefs go to Seattle next week and if they lose that the Chargers could end up taking the division and the number 1 seed.

It'd be interesting to see what happens when a team with no fans wins the Superbowl.

It would probably look like that time Dublin won a Leinster final and drove an open-top bus down O'Connell Street the next day to celebrate, to the absolute indifference of hundreds of people going about their day.

Raiders did it successfully in the opening game of the 2016 season away to the Saints and it set them up on the way to their first play-off season in 14 seasons

Sometimes risks are just worth taking as it was for the Chargers on Thursday night

Anyone know if Blackouts on Game Pass apply to everything this weekend?

To everything ? The games tonight aren't blacked out and it's only ever the 6pm and 9.25pm games that are blacked out(well supposed to be anyway). Is that what you were asking about ?

The fecking Cleveland Browns will have something resembling a meaningful game in week 16 of a season. Mayfield has got some arm and it's amazing how a change of coach can change the atmosphere of a team.

Mayfield didn't play great last night, but for the Browns to win when not playing well bodes extremely well for next season. There is a lot of young talent on the roster and I think they could do some very good things next year.

The thing I find amazing is, that if Philadelphia lose against the Rams tonight, the Browns will have a better record than them and when you consider that the Eagles won the Superbowl last year and the Browns were 0-16, that's the beauty of the NFL right there.

As much as I would have loved the colts TD to stand, it was clear it wasn't a TD.

Rumour has it, Aaron Rodgers has never actually thrown an inaccurate pass. His WRs just don't run to where he wanted them.

Their o line never holds either. Nope. Never.

Ravens up 10-9 over the Bucs at halftime

Winston made some good plays but the Bucs receivers had a few drops. The Ravens secondary was superb also

Lamar Jackson is a long way off being an NFL passer but the run game is working as normal and it's how they win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

Packers really struggling against the Bears but only 8 in it. Arguably the best highlight so far has been Khalil Mack getting half a sack with his ass.

Matt Nagy does some really dumb stuff sometimes. First running with Mizzel on 3rd down and failing then instead of going with the offense on 4th you run a terrible punt fake and hand all momentum to the Packers.

Can't read anything into the Browns win over the Broncos - the Broncos were atrociously bad, in particular Keenum and the coaching. The offensive playcalling was terrible - anyone with a remote interest in offensive playcalling could figure out when the Broncos were going to run or to pass. And Vance Joseph repeatedly made mistakes a HC should not be making, the worst being kicking the field goal on 4th and 1 on the Browns 6 yard line with 4 mins and 39 seconds left.

This is not to say that the Browns don't have some talent on their team now - Dorsey and DePodesta have done a good job building a roster. The jury is still out on Mayfield, but it is looking more like his floor is a journeyman starter in the NFL. But nobody should reading anything into the Browns beating the Broncos last night.
