    Preview

It's day 4339 post-Brennangate and Ulster travel to Scarlets in their third Heineken Cup fixture of the season, naming what is probably the strongest lineup they have named all year. Will Addison returns to the centre after his November exploits, Henderson and Treadwell make up the engine room. Stockdale and Speight will be dangerous on the wings.

Scarlets look alright but I don't really care about them.

    Prediction
Ulster by a score. Quietly confident we'll get this job done.

Hidalgo-Clyne onto the bench for them

That's borderline for me. He tried to use both hands.

Sexy grubber from Addisson. He's utter class.

    STOCKDALE IS A BEAST. TRY!

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    Addison is also the man.

    Oh very nice!

Lovely grubber but thought he should have moved it before that.

Classy try. Stockdale with a powerful finish but they almost made a mess of it by not holding their lines with the overlap. Stockdale should have been taken down.

Nice from Addison but bad miss from Scarlets on him.

    Incredible strength from Henderson.

That's the second hold up turnover for Henderson

Two lads trying to get to ball to ground. Henderson nonchalantly looking at the ref. Brilliant.

Addison is great to watch. Burns deserves credit for actually taking that offload though which was not exactly sympathetic. Ulster are going to go from everywhere, it seems. They want a BP.

I know Scarlets are fairly ****e this season so far but Ulster have been really good so far. That Hendo defense was immense.

That was a huge scrum from Moore.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    We’re actually playing well.

Scarlets are giving away a ridiculous amount of penalties

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Eh, on first viewing....if Cipriani was a red card, Reidy could be in trouble. Haven't seen a replay though.

    Replay....could be in trouble here.

    Ouch.

    This ref is very good.

The chants of "off, off, off" are pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Thought he was lucky to get away without a yellow. Happy enough with the decision on a personal level but calls into question the consistency yet again.

    Farcical.

The chants of "off, off, off" are pathetic.

    You get that everywhere.

On the tackle, quite lucky to get away without a yellow there given some of the cards we've seen.

Ulster have been in control and had Scarlets under a lot of pressure and coughing up penalties.

That's a poor score to concede against the flow of play and a pressure release valve for Scarlets.

That was a fantastic read from Speight not to bite in and trust the cover inside to get across before forcing the penalty.

    Speight > Piatau

    Massive error from Patchel.

    Tidy stuff from Besty

Another great try. Good beef shown by the pack.

Jesus, that really is a shocking crowd for a do or die European match on a Friday night.

    Amazing awareness from Davis there.

    Bullying Scarlets.

When's the last time an Ulster pack bullied anyone!

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    Almost away again there.

Slightly kinder bounce and Stockdale was away there.

Burns mixing the great with the ghastly.

He’s doing my head in :pac:

    13-10 half time.

If the Scarlets moved the ball there on their final phase before half time, they were away. Popped a short ball in midfield with big overlap of backs on the far side.

Ulster throwing themselves into this. Some pretty hard tackling and plenty of effort on and off the ball.

Nice to see the forward pack building decent gainline, still reliant on Addison, McCloskey and Stockdale taking on ball against forwards to maintain tempo but a big improvement on seasons past.

Good half from Ulster. Hopefully they can keep up the intensity

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

There are four points on offer here tonight if we can just put in another 40 mins performance, and it would be a huge four points in the context of our season.

Best I've seen from Marty Moore since he wore a blue jersey. He's popping up around the field, slowing ball down, carrying and doing a tidy job at the set piece.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

No chance he was on his feet

Don't think Henderson was either when he ripped it a minute earlier so evens out.

Looked like he was lying sideways on the ruck.

At no point was he on his feet...he was lying horizontal. And the red called it after 2 seconds !!!

Ulster need to calm this down and go through some phases. No way do they want to get into this loose, shoot out style game against the Scarlets or they'll be thumped.
