Bah Hum Bug. I just hate this show, the happy clappy songs, the never ending drudgery of the presenter who tries to hard to be happy. It's just a horrible mess of a programming, its as mind numbingly boring as a normal late late show. It is the worst of the worst. Ahhhhh!

And they start talking about it in September.

    Happy Christmas All.

    I know right!
I can't believe how they make you watch it!

The best thing about it is that it prevents a "normal" episode of the The Late Late Show from going out.

Media coverage of the show, pain in the arse.

    I don’t watch it.

Not really much more to add...

Its for Kids and their families. Its a nice touch, I don't personally watch it but I'm sure I will if I have children.

To have a problem with the Late Late Is irrational. Just..... don't...... watch it....

    Simple!

They could probably do with a presenter with a younger persona. Don't know what age Tubridy is, but he seems to have been stuck back in the days of Frank Sinatra since he first appeared.

Must be what I am looking at I think all the newspapers are running some story if not 5 stories on the bloody thing.

I understand I don't have to watch RTÉ at but feck sake 3 spin off programmes this week is over kill.

I agree....this show makes me angry and sad.

I need something to make me laugh.

95% of the toy companies pay RTE to have their toys on it.

Not surprised given how every program on RTE comes with an advertisement for the show.
The news came with an advert for it, the weather after the news came with an advert for it. The adverts for their afternoon came with an advert for it.

It is obviously big money for RTE, and its the worst show of the year, just hyped beyond reason.

I think its a symptom of a bigger problem, Christmas starts far too early, and the sole reason is for retail max gain. I don't know how people can bring kids to see santy in november., by December he'll be a distant memory.

Seriously, I grew up in the 80s and Christmas wasn't spoken about until mid December. It truly was a special time because it was a short few days of being festive which made you savour it more.

It truly was a special time because you were a kid at the time. It's just as special to kids these days.

Back when I was a lad it was Gay Byrne on a Tricycle for 3 hours and the Billy Barry Kids in Mid-Dec, not some fecking lula in a jumper leppin about the place.

Gay was excellent, he sorta played a stern grandad role but had so much character. Tubridy pales in comparison.

Well that may be so, but it makes logical sense that the festive period loses its magic being dragged out for 2 months

Drives me nuts! It's all over the radio today - in the news!! Fb posts on every page - gotta have your 'toy show ' pjs, your 'toy show' goodie box oh and of course the tree has to be for the 'toy show ' too! Bah humbug lol

By the same logic the magic would be maximised if we condensed Christmas to a quick 3 minute period.

Statistically most presenters that warm to kids get arrested in some weird thing called Yewtree.

Well, luckily in Ireland we have people like Pat Ingoldsby.

I adore Christmas. I have no problem with it starting early/etc.
I don't really like The Toy Show since Ryan took it over.
It's basically a musical and Ryan acts like a rude upper class child and in the last few years it hasn't being Christmassy enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭Thespoofer

If it was Gay Byrne I would watch it because of Mr Tubridy I won't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,189 ✭✭✭✭Sleeper12

I don't have a problem with the toy show itself. It never did anything for me or my children who are now in their mid 20s.

    I've never understood the hype.

which deprived part of Dublin have RTE decided to plunder for the mandatory liberties type kids to play with the stupid toy that never works so the middle class can have a little chuckle whilst the d4 kids get to do the book slot ?.. horrible show.

Something weird about Tubridy. He talks about the Toy Show 12 months of the year, so he's clearly obsessed with it. He surrounds himself with kids, playing along like Peter Pan. His carry on reminds me of Michael Jackson. Perhaps he didn't have much of a childhood, and is compensating now. He should have been allowed to be a normal kid with normal interests, instead of doing book reviews for 2FM at 12 years of age.

    This is the result.

Tubs himself did the book slot back in the day lol.

3 hours of Christmas is just about right. Envy them in the states where it’s about 32 hours long. Perfect .

He can’t stand the kids behind it all. I think he hated kids when he was a kid himself. He left his own kids when they were kids.
The LLTS is an opportunity for Tubridy to demonstrate that he’s of such superior intellect and presenting skills, Irelands greatest ever broadcaster, greater than Wogan, greater than Byrne, that he can disguise this loathing to such an extent that he has mastered a 3 hour live nightmare and fooled the whole country into thinking that he’s Willy Wonka.

What??? The LLS Toy show is on tonight???? Damn it i missed it again...that's ten years in a row....they really need to promote this show better...I mean, it is the only episode of the LLS where Tubridys complete lack of charisma, talent and warmth are at their least obvious...you'd think they be singing it from the roof tops!

Used love the toyshow but now in the social media age it has become packed with very contrived and feel good stories- feels very forced and unnatural really.
    Too stage managed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭ Kolten Elegant Dashboard

    Never understood the appeal

agreed, i work in an office and were all aged between 27-35 and the hype from the girls in that office was nauseating, and their tweets/fb posts on it was sad...its just a bunch of kid playing with toys..and it comes off lately as they just want something to go viral like that kid about the clocks was it

The kids come off as rude and precocious. When I was a kid, kids were a bit shyer and had a bit more humility on the show. Now kids try to be “characters”, ably assisted by the Irish media. I just don’t like it and become one of those "shure, look how Oirish I am" circlejerks to big up the toy show every year as some must watch event. It's just like the circlejerk over chicken fillet rolls, the immersion, flat 7up, the wooden spoon etc. Might be an unpopular opinion, but that's how I feel every time I see people banging on about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,655 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Yea I didn’t warm to any of the kids really. Way too forward and adult like on it these days.
The hype is unreal- they sell special clothes (to wear while watching the toy show) and of all things Toy show treat boxes to eat while watching the damn thing. Just in case you struggle with buying a few packs of sweets and crisps !!
