He was supposed to have knocked the serious boozing on the head but partied on at every opportunity according to a former business associate and a relative of mine. A guy who regularly supplied goods to JD. After a few transactions he got a call from JD asking for invoices to be redone and bill the FAI. He could get tickets to any game home or abroad, often complimentary tickets for premium areas or corporate boxes that werent full or in use. Ironically a dyed in the wool GAA man so he used the tickets as sweetners for other customers.
It was a nice earner so he was p*ssed when it all went came crashing down.

Jesus wept. A microcosm of the whole corruption.

Not surprised at all by that!

Heard somewhere yesterday that she officially left him over a year ago, end of 2018 begining of 2019.....could she be the one who blew his whistle?? He is supposed to have let her down.......

In 20 years time when then book comes out I am 100% sure Niall Quinn et all orchestrated everything from the leaked 100 grand to now.

    /my opinion

Nah, that was from the family court. Ex Mrs Delaney was looking for maintenance and whilst they were analysing how much Johnny Boy was worth to pay. Then the 100k loan came to light.

So his own greed brought him down. If he had of made a reasonable offer to support his own family, it wouldn't have went to court, and he'd still be on the gravy train.

Not necessarily. We don't know whether his ex would have accepted a reasonable offer, she is not obliged to.

Not 100%. The first mention of family court was at the injunction hearing the night before the story about the loan was published. Delaney's legal team argued that the only possible source of the leak could have been from the family court proceedings. Delaney never countenanced that the leak could have come from anywhere else eg the FAI. At least that's how the injunction hearing played out. Maybe he knew exactly who leaked it and used the family court angle to try and suppress the story.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Quinn had orchestrated the whole thing. Mark Tighe is writing a book at the minute. Maybe we won't have to wait 20 years.

Not necessarily. The €100k loan could still have come to the attention of the Sunday Times. We don't know that the leak came from the family court proceedings.

That's part of the problem there. People accommodating Delaney's dodgy dealing.

That persons responsibility is to themselves and their family, not to Irish soccer, so you take what you can get or it’ll just mean someone else will. The responsibility of Irish soccer was on Delaney and the FAI so the buck stops with them.

Delaney's ex was talking to Mark Tighe.

I agree and said as much but I care about Irish football. It was a lucrative situation from JDs custom to others becoming repeat customers due to the tickets. As mentioned, he's all GAA so took satisfaction tbh. It was priceless to hear the ranting and raving at 'intrusive' media behaviour. He has lost anywhere between €5-7k pa and being self employed/smallish business its like a lump of a salary being cut not to mention the end of the ticket supply.

Is that fact or opinion? Or ex wife or ex girlfriend. Either way it would be a surprise. Where did the paper trail or minutes of meeting come fom though as either ex wouldnt have had access to such douments.

Did we ever get to the bottom of what the €100k loan was for?

Was he actually trying to hide that money from his wife? Or did the FAI really need that cashflow?

It's mad that it was this one thing that caused the whole house of cards to fall. If Mark Tighe had not brought it to light we would still be looking at JD wearing the face off his mot whilst the senior team struggle and LOI clubs go to the wall.

Pretty sure the FAI needed it from what I read. If it hadn’t come out then it would have at some stage he was juggling too many things and was way out of his depth with it.

Believe it was needed to keep them alive after Dundalk insisted on getting the money that was resting in the FAI accounts. Bigger thing people should not forget about is the €600k he got off various regional FAIs, kids football....did he tell them why he needed it or what were they told?? Seem to be very quiet.....

John Delaney joined as notice party to watchdog application over FAI documents

So Mick is getting a million quid as an exit fee and Robbie Keane was given a four year contract.

One thing that has to be learned (of the many) is that we pay our international managers far far too much.
Fair play to them for screwing Irish soccer but it would be a nice goodwill gesture for Mick to return that million.
Seeing as the state are picking up the tab.

Should he hell. He's a professional football manager. He'll take whatever deal is given to him.
It's the cowboys that gave out deals like that, that are the problem.
€2 million a year to Trap to rock up at the Euros as one of the best paid managers there. Playing an injured goalkeeper and a 5'8 poacher as a loan striker. End up finishing as one of the worst teams to ever go to a Euros.
    Similar goes for MON.

The likes of the North were getting similar results to us paying a manger fractions of what we were paying.

And if Kenny doesn't want Keane, he'll either have to be given one of the underage jobs (presumably he'll be sacked by Middlesbrough soon) or given a pay off which won't be far off McCarthys million euro deal.

I am not saying it's his fault for getting paid so much, but as a multimillionaire football head who has made millions from managing Ireland it would be a nice GESTURE for him to donate some of it back.
Agree with all you have said outside of that.

And the way Mick was talking - He didn't even want Robbie - then Robbie fecks of to Middlesbrough hardly a wet day in the job.

Disappointing as Robbie one of the best in Irish Football for 20 years.

4 year deal - and probably has an exit package too.

Lads with an exit deal like Mick has and a contract for an unwanted Robbie.....the question has to be asked....What dirt have they got on JD and the former board????

Fair enough. I still don't understand why he would.
Millionaire or not, its still €1.13 million for a man whose chances of another big pay day are slim.
It's one hell of a "gesture"
He might very easily last 2 or 3 months in his next job in England and never work in the top 2 divisions again. He's 61 now. He'll be rightly thinking of himself.
Anyway, what's €1.13 million considering the amount that was p1ssed away on JD & Co and their expense accounts plus the catalogue of dinosaur managers and their buddies he employed.
Calling for Mick to give up what he's contractually obliged to is closing the barn door when the horses have well and truly bolted stuff.
