Why are they not calling these out for what they are?

Gangs of travellers threatening, intimidating and assaulting farmers for confronting them for trespassing.

The Gardai do fúck all about them too.

"roving gangs" "people with lurcher dogs"

    politically correct nonsense

Travellers? Scum more like. This is why Casey got 20% and if any politician has any sense he / she will focus in on dealing with this menace to society. Sorry, I mean ethnic minority.

If it wasn't for Peter Casey and the 23% of us who voted for him RTE would not be highlighting this 3 days later. Of course the fact travellers are involved is being hidden but the viewers must know.

What is the alleged aim of these "gangs"?
Is it stake out of places?
It's hardly just a leisurely stroll with dogs for fresh air?

"It is understood around 40 quad bikes, each worth several thousand euro, have been stolen from farms across rural parts of Limerick, Kerry and North Cork over the past year – potentially resulting in losses for local farmers in the hundreds of thousands of euro.

Gardai have come under pressure to apprehend the culprits and at a meeting of Joint Policing Committee earlier this month, it was revealed by Cllr Sean Lynch that gardai had made a breakthrough recently and were “on top of it”.

As part on the ongoing investigation, which is being led by gardai in the Newcastle West district two men – aged 55 and 37 –were arrested on Tuesday in the Kilmallock area.

The men, who the Limerick Leader understands are from Eastern Europe, were detained and questioned at Bruff and Newcastle West"

Its not only the travellers folks, these guys robbed 40 quads, only reason they got caught was that one farmer fitted a tracker.

It's great to see such concern for their animals that they are happy to walk them at 3:30am. And people complain that they abuse animals! Once again Big Fat Fail to the Haters!!

The problem can be traced back in part to lack of prison spaces.
That problem pervades the whole issue.
There isn't space to put these people away so rubbish sentences are given

Everyone should be asking their politicians why we do not have Thornton Hall built and why prison spaces are not being grown to deal with the problem.

They're not and they wouldn't. The Guards aren't the issue. Their funding can be and most of the lack of political will to tackle such things and the courts being excessively lenient. I've known Guards who've gone after them, built cases, cases that could take months, only to be let go on technicalities, or the accused have left the country, or worse convicted and yet another slap on the wrist at the court stage.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Lenient sentences and repeat offenders with hundreds of convictions are to do with the scumbag free legal aid barristers making a mint. Until this is reformed we will be faced with knackers and louts and parasites wrecking decent peoples lives. Thats the key here really. Tougher sentencing like the good old usa. 3 stirkes and your out.

Any scumbag caught robbing a house for the third time should get 15 years without parole and get rid of remission.

I always assumed the media were not "allowed" to report specifically that the people involved in certain stories are travellers? it is always hinted at in articles but never stated.

Newsflash. The 158 td's were voted there by the 4.8M.

Then maybe it's time we elected different ones.

Not trump lite gowls who only punch down.

Proper ones who will tackle the parasites in the legal and property sectors as well as the parasites who abuse the social welfare system and terrorise people who are just trying to get by.

If we dont get that let's not forget this state was founded by a revolution, perhaps we might need another one

We already have national, local and European elections at least every 5 years.

We don't need a revolution. We need people to understand that if they are willing to do the work they stand a good chance to get elected.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. History has proven the majority of the irish people will vote for some gombeen who promises them some short term trinket instead

I think and I hope this is a cry for help from the farming community which I hope is acted on before it escalates.

It's like that Fintan O'Toole article about the tallaght housing estate with vigilante gaurds at the entrance of the estate. What must have happened for it to get that far.

Nothing good comes from escalation of violence.

They're doing their best with poor resources and little chance of justice. Unfair of non guards to blame the guards as if they know what to do differently.

The real fact was: a crime was committed by non travellers - who's denying that and how does it change that crime is disproportionately high among travellers?
